Wow, looks like a lot of us are having surgery on the 13th. Mine is at night, Blah, and my Dr. requires a one night stay for everyone so I won't be home til Friday. Good luck this week, I am on Medifast for my preop. I get 5 medifast products and one lean an green meal a day. I am down 10, not as much as I wanted but a good kickstart

Hey yall- I'm getting banded May 14- I'm on a low carb, high Protein diet~ So far, it's going good. It's hard as crap to find low carb food! I went through the grocery store, looking at all of the nutritional facts. It's crazy. I never realized it before!! So, I had to fork out extra $ for steak, chicken, and such. I would love to do Protein Shakes, but I can only have 8oz of milk a day. I tried mixing it with Water. Gag a maggot. That crap was NASTY! So, I am going to have a shake for lunch. For Breakfast, I have eggs, and for dinner, I guess it will be chicken most nights. Sounds pretty good, but I'd actually rather be doing shakes. I would feel like I was doing more to lose the weight I guess-

Went for a walk around the neighborhood tonight. Felt good to actually exercise. Going to make it a habit, starting now!

Anyhow! Good luck to you all!

Another May13 Banster here. I have been on 2 shakes a day since April 29 and not doing so well. I do good in the morning, but this has been a busy week and I will have to learn how to eat on the run properly. I know eating on the run is a no no but some things can't be avoided.

Had a rough and doubting day today but think I am through it. Holding up my pants sure made an impact. My husband asked me about shopping at Victoria Secret, a store I went off in a few holidays ago because they didn't care the Plus sizes in the store. And yeah it will be nice to get into a size i can not only buy from there but when I can walk around without knocking over the racks. I will again start my shake diet. I don't know why I am struggling when I do it right I feel good and am not hungry. Maybe the cheating is a feeling of loss and a fear of not being able to eat those foods again.

Good Luck to bandsters this week, I look forward to hearing about everyone's experience.

Well...I'm now officially a 5/14 bandster! My surgery coordinator called this morning and asked if I wouldn't mind switching a day because the guy who is scheduled for Friday morning needed to swap. The last thing I wanted to do was postpone (I am sooooooooooooooooo ready for this!) but when she told me the next chance this guy would get wouldn't be until June, I felt really bad. I'm not the biggest believer in karma but I couldn't help but think that selfishly keeping my appointment for no good reason other than pure impatience is not the best way to start my "new life". So there you have it, 5/14 it is! I'm still starting my Clear Liquids today though - I just picked up my magnesium citrate and that little red bottle is currently mocking me from my desk. Did I mention just how ready I am for this?!?!?

That was super sweet of you! I would say you deserve a cookie, but..... LoL- I'm sure the guy really appreciates it, and I am a big believer in Karma-

What time is your surgery scheuled?? I have to be there at 10:30- I wish it was earlier in the day (Like 7ish) cause I know I'm gonna wake up early as crap (if I can even sleep the night before) and sit here freaking out until 10-

Good luck with the magnesium citrate :lol:/ That stuff makes me puke. LoL-

Fortunately, my surgery is very early. I have to be at the hospital at 5:15 AM. I'm thrilled though, I don't expect to get a wink of sleep the night before!!

Man you suck! Lol- I am jealous- Just know, while you are getting your surgery, I will be on the couch having a panic attack! Ha ha- Waiting is my least favorite thing to do- It always makes me freak out more than actually being there.

Best of luck to you!!!!

Well I officially and not intentionally scared the crap out of my husband and 7 year old daughter tonight. It kind of started at work when I was shutting down my computer. The thought came to me that tomorrow I start liquids and then on Thursday I will be having surgery. I started to freak out a little so I walked out into an open office knowing that I would calm down once I got around people. The ride home was okay, the radio was my friend. So I thought that "OMG" feeling left when all the sudden I knocked a cup over on the counter while I was cooking dinner. I went totally ballistic. Backed myself into the corner of the kitchen. That made everything worse. I was trapped. I ran to my bathroom fell to the floor and started crying like a baby. I was crying like someone died. My poor innocent daughter walked in where I was a saw my condition. She RAN to her room crying and scared to death. I could hear my husband trying to calm her down. Then he came into check on me. He was perfect. He asked all the right questions - Is there something I can do? Do you think you are a little nervous about the surgery? Next thing I knew he was on the floor beside me calmly talking to me and putting his arm around me. He made me feel so much better. I knew there was a reason we have been married 26 years.

Had to share my mental break down with the world.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
