Time off work after being banded.

Recommended Posts

For those that have already been banded, how much time did ya'll take off work afterwards before going back to work? Or has ya'lls doctor told you to plan to take off x amount of days? Mine has not mentioned that yet. I go for my nutrition class on May 3, pre-op with Dr.Provost and pre-register at the hospital on May 5 and surgery on May 7.

I took two weeks off, but I also had my tonsills removed at the same time as my band was put in... tonsills were WAY worse than the band :scared2: That was cake!

I took 2 weeks off as well. I could have gone back to work after one, but I had the time to use, and it has been nice getting to stay home and adjust to everything without "life" interfering too much.

I had surgery on Wed, 3/31 and went back to work on Tues, 4/6. I have a fairly sedentary job...so, no biggie for me to sit there vs sitting at home.

I had surgery on 4/2 and went back to work on 4/4. I sit at my desk but I get up and sit down a lot and that was very uncomfortable. I recommend at least a week to adjust to the band and for the swelling to go down. Not to mention the gas pains and nausea that I had. They kicked my butt during that first week.

Depends on your job and you! I took a week off total (7 days), but let my boss know that it could be a bit longer just because I hadn't ever had any sort of surgery before.

The band was fine. But I had a pretty gross reaction to the anesthesia and was super sick for about a week.

I also had a job that required me to move around a lot. It ended up being 10 days. If I had a desk job, I probably would've been fine after the originally planned 7 but I decided to play it safe.

I'd plan on a week just in case you're not feeling up to snuff. You can always go back earlier than expected.

The time you take off really depends on your job. I had my surgery on a Saturday afternoon and went back to work on the Monday. I am a teacher so I dont do much lifting mostly walking and standing all day. It wasn't that hard.

I also don't take any time off work when I have had Lipo. Just got some the other day actually went home a few hours later and went back to work again on the Monday ( surgeries always on Saturdays for me).

It is better to move around a lot after surgery so going back to my job only helped me get rid of the gas faster etc.

I have a desk job but took a week. I had surgery on 4-20 and planned to go back on 4/23. I ended up going back today 4/27. I'm really glad I took the week. I'm a little older than most here but found I was still tired easily on Thursday. I was also having problems with nausea and diarrhea. It was nice to take care of thinks at home!!!

took 2 weeks, and d*m* glad I did! There is no way I would have been ready to roll yesterday morning....LOL. This is the toughest bounceback I've had, not sure if it was cumulative, being the 4th abdominal surg in 6 years or if it was the hernia repair...all I know is I only left my little yard for the 1st time today, and still don't want to drive.....

I had it done on Thursday and went back to work on Monday. But I think it depends on what you do for work.

My wife is a nurse in an ER...she tried going to work 2 days after surgery and got swollen ankles and feet as a result. she took the next night off and went to work the next day and was fine, just a little sore.

I had my band done February 24 on a Wednesday and went back to work on Monday. I also have a sit down job. I did pretty good that week I felt pretty good. I think we are all differnet I was up and walking that evening and trying to clean house. Key word trying the anesthesia kept me pretty silly. I was trying to wash dishes and fell asleep standing lol. Good luck to you.

I had to take 3 weeks off. My work wouldn't let me go on light duty. I had to come back with NO restrictions. Plus my surgeon is one of the trauma surgeons in the Emergancy Room that I work, so he knows what kinda of work I do and how crazy it gets. He didnt want be "hurting" myself. I was so ready to go back after a week. I think that they hubby and the dogs got too used to me being home, but I was sooooo ready to get back.

Thanks for the input! I am having my surgery on a Friday, but think that I will go ahead and request Monday and maybe Tuesday off too. :-)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
