Yep, my Vitamin D was also low and I've been on Multivitamins for years so I was surprised...my doc said to add D twice a day...by the way I had my band yesterday!

good luck

Just heard a report on the local news yeaterday that a majority of adults and many children are Vit D deficient. My program reccommends everyone take Calcium with vit D twice a day. The good news is...if you know about it you can fix it!

My internist prescribed 50 thousand international units twice per week for 6 weeks and then another blood test. I have taken three doses so far and feel so much better!!!

My doctor just called this week with results from my blood work, and I have been prescribed 50,000IU capsules as well. What difference can you tell taking them? Is it energy?

I feel a bit more energetic and my lower back doesnt ache as much as it did. It still hurts, but it is more manageable. My level was 12. what was yours? How often do you take the capsules? Do you have to recheck your blood level? What prompted your doc to order the lab test?

I too am Vitamin D deficient. I have taken 2400iu a day for the past year and my blood levels are normal on that dose.

FYI - 'Nature's Bounty' make a small softgel capsule (1000iu per cap), which is easy to take when banded. My PCP recommended not to take all your Vitamin D in one go, but to spread it out - I take one cap morning, Multivitamin with D in the afternoon & last cap at night.

What types of symptoms did you notice that improved since you began taking the supplement?

What types of symptoms did you notice that improved since you began taking the supplement?

I had no symptoms and did not notice any change in the way I felt. I did have high blood pressure, (which is now normal) that may have been related to the lack of 'D' or it could have been related to my weight.

Vitamin D helps the body absorb Calcium (that is why milk is fortified with D), so you need it for your bones. It helps your immune system. A lack of 'D' can increase the risk of death from cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment in older adults and cancer. Research suggests that Vitamin D could play a role in the prevention and treatment of a number of different conditions, including type1 and 2 diabetes, hypertension, glucose intolerance, and multiple sclerosis.

Lots of people these days have a Vitamin D deficiency as they don't get enough sun. Your body needs a certain amount of sunlight every day in order to manufacture it but because we all slip/slop/slap because of the fear of skin cancer we are not getting what we need.

I am not sure what my level was on my Vitamin D. I am taking one capsule once a week for 4 weeks and then once a month. My PCP had my level checked after I spoke to the dietician, and she wanted to recheck my cholesterol levels anyway.

More energy would be great, but hopefully dropping some weight in the coming months will help with this as well!

Marshall's research has demonstrated how ingested vitamin D can actually block VDR activation, the opposite effect to that of Sunshine. Instead of a positive effect on gene expression, Marshall reported that his own work.. all the best

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
