Banded 3/5/10, First Fill 4/15 - since yesterday have had the hiccups at least 5-7 times. They go away quickly - is this band related?

I get the hiccups almost everytime I eat. So, I would say, yes, it's band related.

I have to stop eating immediately if i get the hiccups because that means I've either gotten stuck, or am pushing the limits...I don't get them often, but they always precede a problem...So yeah, i also vote that they are band related...

What a coincidence that you wrote this tonight, because I got the hiccups today for the first time. I was banded on 4/18. So this was my first experience with hiccups and it kind of made me nervous because I usually drink sips of Water to help me get rid of the hiccups. Well, I couldn't drink anything because I was already full of food. Haha... Guess I have to be careful about how much I eat to avoid the hiccups, cause there's nothing you can do after that point.

Rave:tongue:

I get them all the time. Prob every day! Its painful when I'm eating cause its usually when my food hasnt passed through yet so it causes chest pain when I do it. It is band related, so my doc says. They have no explaination for it though.

Hiccups are one thing people experience when they have eatten enough, it's called a "soft stop". If you listen to your body you will learn if you have a soft stop. Usually if you ignore your soft stop you will have problems..either getting stuck or being in pain because you over ate. The feeling of being full is different after being banded and you cannot rely on waiting for that feeling you used to get. Paying attention and eatting slowly while relearning our body signals is really important in the beginning.

Other "soft stops" I've heard of are runny noses, sometimes just a sigh/gasp, burping, sneezing. You may or may not have a soft stop but if you do..even if you have a mouthful of food when it happens, it's time to stop eatting.

Glad I saw this I was wondering about it myself, I have noticed the past two days, both times I had to regurgitate a little then they went away, I am new to this so thanks for the posts. I now know I need to eat slower and watch for the hiccup warning. Thanks everybody!!!

I get them when I eat too. I asked the fill nurse about it yesterday and she said it's common.

I hicccup once - for me it is a sign that I'm done with my meal (but sometimes it is a sigh or a burp instead) - it's funny what signs your body gives you. The hard part is listening to those signs sometimes

Hi - I have also been getting a hiccup like feeling but am not sure if it's a kinda burp or a hiccup? But I get them when I haven't eaten too so it's also a sign for me that I need to have something to eat if I've left it too long. At least that's what I think my body is telling me? As yet I have not had Breakfast but don't feel hungry yet I've had the hiccupy thing happen half a dozen times occasionally. It's not like continuous hiccups for 10 ins or anything just once or twice every now and then. Anyone have anything similar?

Ta guys

I was banded on the 19th and I too was having that burp hiccup thing going on. I discovered that it was happening when my stomach was empty. It is not a very comfortable feeling. It makes me feel bloated and full but again like I said my stomach would be empty. I found that if I would have some broth or Soup it would instantly go away and my stomach feels normal again. It is like a backwards effect! lol

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
