After Surgery

Recommended Posts

I figured it was time to start a new thread! I was thinking last night, after you get your surgery and start losing weight what are some things you are looking forward to do that average people take for granted? I am talking about simple, every day things that are hard for you or make you extend a lot of energy. One of the things I am looking forward to is getting out of the shower and drying off and doing my night time ritual without getting out of breath. It really frustrates me that I get tired doing that . What are some simple things you all are looking forward to?

I look forward to crossing my legs, bending over touching my toes, tying my shoes without help, and making love to my husband without my stomach being in the way.

OMG - where to begin!

1. walk up steps without losing my breath!

2. walk without my lower back hurting!

3.Able to play with my 6 yr old without having the above

4. Making Love with Hubby and not covering myself up!!!

5. Looking good!

6. Feeling good!

7. Wearing a bathing suit on our Cruise in December instead of shorts and T-shirt!

8. Oh and wearing shorts during the summer instead of Capri's....the list could go on and on!!!

Thanks for the great Post - made me remember why I will NOT cheat on my 2 week pre op liqiud only diet!

Just had surgery yesterdy and I am feeling pretty good. I was sent home the same day thank goodness and now I am just relaxing and starting my recovery time. I am still a little drowsey and thirsty. My mouth is so dry from all of the drugs yesterday. (cottonmouth) and it stinks that I can't quench that thirst. I consider it a minor problem in the grand scheme of things. I just need to remind myself that everyday gets a little better. Have any of you experience this same issue? I am looking forward to making some life long friends in here and for the support we all so desperately need. Kudos to everyone who's had surgery all ready and good luck to the ones who are still waiting.

I was banded on the 13th.

Somethings I am looking forward to...

Not being the largest person in the room.

Being more confident and not worrying what others are thinking about my weight

Being able to run around and play more with my 5y.o.

and on and on.

:)

Congrats Sydney! Congrats jillsko1!

I'm going in on Wednesday 5/19 along with a bunch of other folks on here. Well, not literally, that would be quite a crowded operating room.....

This is a great topic. I should have written a list down to refer to over the last couple weeks when things got tough with the pre-op diet, might have alleviated some of my grumpiness at times:-)

Here are some of my things off the top of my head:

  • Having energy throughout the day, not feeling so tired and defeated in the evenings.
  • Playing sports - I was a good athlete once upon a time, and one of my goals is to rediscover that guy.
  • Feeling attractive - I used to look in the mirror sometimes before going out and think to myself that I was a good looking guy! But I've been avoiding mirrors for a long time now. I know that's a bit superficial but I know that guy is in there and I want to feel that confidence again and know that I worked for it.
  • Buying clothes at regular stores - no explanation needed here.
  • Dating - I've used weight as an excuse for too long, even sabotaged relationships with people who found my fat self attractive. That's gonna end.

I guess maybe these aren't all "every day" little things, but a lot of people take these things for granted. So I'll add that to the list: I want to take these things for granted too!

OK... 5 days post surgery and I am still feeling pretty good. All of the drugs they gave me for pain have finally cleared my system so I am now a little more sore internally. I did have a hernia repaired too. Some of the things I am looking forward to:

-Wearing dresses again.

-Having people look at me and not my fat suit

-Playing with my 2 kiddos

-playing soccer again and coaching my daughters team.

-not sitting on the sidlines of my life anymore and getting out there and enjoying it.

I can't wait until this liquid phase is over. I am so sick of drinking my food. Happy day all!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
