Lapband and Mirena IUD

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded just over a week ago 3/25/10 and have had the Mirena IUD in sice 4/13/2009. I have had one period since having it placed but just yesterday started having my period. I have lost about 25 lbs so far. In the past my cycles were always long - 40 + days between periods but I did not have any problems conceiving my 2 children. I was wondering in anyone else has a Mirena and if their periods came back after loosing weight?

Thanks

hi...i have the mirena and my period did start back after i was banded and started losing. im not sure if its weight loss related or surgery related but either way it came back....bummer. im close to my 5th year so its time to have the mirena replaced. hopefully that stops them again.

I don't have Mirena or any other form of birth control/ anti-period meds. However I do believe that its is caused by weight loss. I usually only had a period every 4-6 months, sometimes more or less. In January 2009 I started working on weight loss without the band and managed to lose 17 lbs then plateaued, until surgery, After I lost the 17 lbs I started having a monthly period.

I have never had a regular period in my life and it is frustrating, but it is a sign of health so I'm not complaining. Lol but I'm not worried about getting pregnant so yeah..

So this has nothing to do with the band or your question, but I was wondering have you ever had any issues with your IUD, I was actually getting ready to get one because I can't stand this little pill I take on a daily basis. I am just worried that it will fall out or the string will be really noticable...any inside will help thank you!!

It is inserted through your cervix in to your uterus so there is no way it can fall out. The string is like a piece of thread that hangs a few cm from the cervix. You can hardly feel it and can't see it at all

I do not have Mirena, I have the depo provera shot, and I did get my period for about a week, I hadn't had one in about 3 years, but luckily it wasn't heavy

I've had my Mirena IUD for over four years now. There is no way it can "fall out" of you, but it can become displaced, meaning it falls to the bottom of your uterus and no longer works. It doesn't happen often (it did happen to me, though) and its pretty obvious when it happens (cramping, pain, etc.). As for the string, its not visible by any means. It hangs a couple of cm out of your cervix and is very soft (not stiff).

As for the OP, you've got me all concerned for my surgery and my IUD now. lol I love my Mirena most of all because I don't get periods on it. It would totally suck to start getting periods again after my surgery.

I've had my mirena for 3 years. I havent had a period since I got it, but then I did a 2 week liquid diet as kind of a trial run before surgery, and got a period. I just started my official pre-op diet and really really hope it doesnt happen again. I always had really really heavy periods prior to getting the IUD, which would sometimes last 8 days. The period I got recently only lasted abuot 5 days.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
