Looking to meet local banders in Charlotte area

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

My name is Jaime and I am new to lapbandtalk.com

I had my band placed 2 weeks ago and I really am looking to meet local people in the Charlotte area who have had the band or are considering it. I am considering starting a support group or adding to an existing one and would love to hear from people who would be interested.

Love to hear from you!

Jaime

So you can mark your calendar our next meeting is Dec 15 @ Ruby Tuesdays @ Arrowood and 77 at 11:30. We would love it if you could join us. As soon as I get the picture from this past meeting I will post it so you will know who you are talking with.

My therapist had her stomach stapled and a band around her stomach back in 97. She is just wonderful. She said she'd be willing to start a group if I could find 4-5 people. She really is helpful since she took the slow weight loss route also. If you are interested let me know. This is something I think would be a great support. We all support each other which is wonderful but to have a counselor lead a group who has gone through all the same stages we are going through! How great would that be!

Welcome to you too Yolanda! There are around a dozen of us LBTs on this board from the Charlotte area. You'll find that everyone has their favorite among the local doctors - Dr. Volleinger & Dr. Bauman are the better known.

I'm underway with Dr. Kuwada out of CMC. He's new to the area and being re-certified by Inamed (makers of Lap-Band).

Then there are a few of us who have been banded in Mexico.

Most people attend the doctors' informational seminars before deciding on which doctor to go with.

We're meeting on Saturday, December 17th, 11:30 a.m at Ruby Tuesdays, Arrowood Rd. at I-77. We always welcome new faces.

Dear Yolanda,

I had my lap band placed by a surgeon in Asheville, NC by the name of Alan Bradshaw, MD. He had performed other surgeries on me in the past and he is a wonderful doctor. If you really want to stay local, one of the best bariatric surgeons in the Charlotte area is Roc Bauman, MD in Concord. I have his contact information if you like. Let me know if I can help! I think the band is great and I am really happy I did it.

Jaime

Dear Karen,

I will definitely be there at the meeting on the 17th! I am really excited to meet everyone and share information. I think it will be a big help being new to Charlotte (I moved here in January) and to being banded. I hit my 4 week mark Thanksgiving Day. Yipee!

Jaime

Hello there,

I am so sorry that I missed the December meeting, but family obligations got in the way. When and where is the January meeting? Thanks!

Jaime

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
