So, are you keeping your elipical outside or was that the room temp? 61 degrees says it's time to turn up the heat.

No, it's inside. NOT turning on the heat is a little trick I use to GET myself ON the trainer. I love that I don't even have to put on shoes (this is a BIG ADVANTAGE of the ET over a treadmill). I roll out of bed, pull on some undies and workout top and jump on the elliptical w/o turning the heat on. If I time it right I can just turn on the little heater in the bathroom and not have to waste $ heating up the whole house before I leave for work.

Tricia--bowling is great exercise, but is it aerobic? Seems like an anerobic activity to me... unless you pace between rolls and jump up and down (cheering for fellow bowlers) to keep your heart rate up you aren't going to get the aerobic benefit. Do they have music in your alley? I used to take my kids to Rock n' Bowl. That was pretty cool.

It's definitely not something that keeps my heart rate up. However, it is league night and we try to get out of there quickly so we bowl as fast (and as accurate) as we can. I realized after the first few weeks that the 2 1/2 hours of bowling shouldn't be counted in for the 4 hours of total aerobic exercise per week so I've decided to add in other things to make up for it.

I suppose at this point I'm just adding it in as something "else" I'm doing during the week.

Okay, got in my walkies, and does almost getting hit by a car count for aerobic activity? My heart is still racing.

The jerk didn't even stop. If there had been cars on the road he would have taken them out. I started crossing the road when he was a full block away (speed limit is 25 mph) He finally saw me, almost two late--- he ended up sliding through the intersection SIDEWAYS. I couldn't run because of the ice on the road.

Yesterday I was almost hit in broad daylight

Have I mentioned how much I hate this place???

Wow, I'm glad you're alright. I'm sure that was quite a scare.

Omigosh! Be careful of those maniacs on the road! I wish I could share my elliptical with you!

Well, I'm sure it adds to your health. But unfortunately it doesn't do much for WL. Wish that it DID! I took a Pysical Fitness Specialist class about a decade ago and we intensly studied how different activities affected WL and every study showed that anerobic activity added to health--added to muscle--but did VERY LITTLE for WL. (You know Sumo wrestlers are quite muscular!)

Also BTW-- swimming (which we all know is GREAT exercise) resulted in only about 75% WL that running did. Unfortunately running, climbing stairs, all the stuff most of us hate to do the most loses the most.

DRAT.

Great info....thanks. I'm trying to balance aerobic with cardio during the week. I've just started doing Buns of Steel, I'm still walking/somewhat jogging, and I'm doing Krav Maga. Once I move from a Krav Maga beginner to advanced, I'll move from once a week to 3 x per week. I've also asked for one of The Method cardio videos, a mini trampoline and some walking weights for Christmas.

Okay, I shoveled snow for 30 minutes yesterday, along with my hour walkies and 30 minutes of dance. :)

Oh and I've returned to my old, bad habbits: I'm counting calories like a fiend.

All this week, I've hovered around 700 calories. New fill...

So... it's almost 12/5... have you kept to our original bet?

FROM THREAD START: "The challenge is MINIMUM 1 hour of AEROBIC workout--5 days per week (minimum) for 4 weeks and keeping under 1200. (Right, Vines?)"

I think I bet you $100 to a margarita (has to be cadillac) at the next bash that you'd lose at least 4 if you did that for a month. (Is that right?) Obviously, you're under 1200... but the most important part is the aerobic activity, have you been able to do make that?

So let's see, Monday... you win WL if you've lost 4 or more and $100 if you don't! Sounds like a win-win to me!

Well, I have kept my calories under 1200 calories, that's for sure. And I have been aerobically active at least 5 days a week every week.

I am on the verge of tears, but at 700 calories for almost 2 weeks, I've lost 1 whole pound. So I'm still averaging 4 onces a week. But I'll weigh myself this weekend, I'm going to break down and actuallty buy a scale. To date, for this challenge, I've currently lost 1 pound for the entire 4 weeks.

http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=11271&page=2&highlight=bash

So start Monday, Nov 7 and go to...Nov 31? Thanksgiving is in there, that is going to mess us up. Maybe it should be Nov 7 to Dec 5. How does that sound? I know... that's 4 weeks, but I'll tell you what... do the (minimum--you may surprise yourself and feel like doing more) 1-hour/5 day plan until 12/5 and if you don't lose more than 2 I'll send you $100--and if you lose more than 4# I'll mail you $150. Believe me, after what I spent last night I can see I'll be saving more than that on meals if I get back to business too. We can inspire each other. (But you'll still owe me that drink.)

Agreed?

Witnesses?

Of course, it's always possible that I'll suddenly drop 10 pounds and 5 inches this week, and that way I'll win the big one, and have a real shot at Nana~'s cloak! :) (Yeah, I know, always the positive one, makes you kind of sick with all my optimism....)

Man! That really is a bitch Crystal! But--look at it this way (& I know you're trying to)--at least you're down the 2. It really is amazing that you could increase your workout and restrict your cals so much and still not have a better loss than that. I can sure see why you'd be frustrated as hell. I think you need to get REALLY FIRM with your doctor about trying some thyroid meds.

BUt hey! You WON $100!! I've got a couple other shirts I found to send to you so I'll be getting together a Kare package and have it out to you in the next couple of days.

AND PLEASE DON'T STOP the EXERCISE!! You never know, it just might kick in NEXT week.

First things first, I haven't excersized the last couple of days and man do I miss it! It is just too dang cold to go for walkies right now, I think our high temp yesterday was close to 15 degrees, and right now we've warmed up to a balmy 5 degrees. Cold like this is really harsh on my lungs! I've started my finals already, and this is a crazy time for me! Tonight we have our big class dance thing, so we are going to warm up for about an hour before we dance, Yikes!

The next question is blended or on the rocks? I used to only do blended, but I discovered that blended shuts down my band really fast. And, Cointro or sweet & sour mix? I'm going to hazzard and say Cointro, because I think you're a top shelf kinda gal... (I perfer Greygoose and Bellvidere myself :( Bonus points for anyone who knows what those are :()

Okay, Kare, if you please, just use my winnings to buy Barbie Dolls for toys for tots. I know that KB toys generally has great deals on Barbies this time of year. This is what I was going to use the mulah on anyway, but if you just take care of it at your end, that will save time :(

Yay! YAY! NEW SHIRTS! YAY!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
