For the pass 3 years I've been going back and forth about having the lap band surgery. In December I finally made up my mind to have my surgery. I did my consult and seen all the doctor i was suppose to. During all that time i was really excited. I recently just paid for my surgery and started my pre-op diet. My surgery is scheduled for 3-26-10 and for some reason i'm getting scared. Has that happened to anyone?:smile2:

Being scared is normal before any type of surgery. This is a big decision you have made to change your life.

It helped me to know they have come a long way with this surgery over the years and it has a great success rate. I hope you have some good support around you.

I know that helped ease my mind a little about it.

I think it's pretty typical to get nervous. But you will come out with flying colors--and be SO glad you went through with it!

It is natural to be afraid of the unknown but honestly there is nothing to be scared of.

I had my surgery 4 days ago and you wouldn't even know by the way I feel today. I was uncomfortable for a couple of days at most.

Just look ahead at the good that will come from this experience.

I'm getting banded March 26th as well! Yay us!!! Yes its totally normal to be scared, because I'm VERY scared myself. The positive in me is preparing for a new life and a new look, but the negative in me is living every day until March 26 as my last. Weird I know, but thats how it feels. Aside from the fear of complications, its also failing after the surgery. And based off of what everyone says, they too have the same fears. I'm fearing the anesthesia more than anything though, but everyones fears are different. Its perfectly normal to be scared prior to surgery. After all, this surgery is life changing. Just be positive and all will be great. Good luck to us!!!!:smile2:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
