For me it has happened A LOT! All of it.. PBing...sliming...and vomiting, getting stuck.

I try to avoid it by eating slower..eating softer Proteins.. But it happens anyway.

Just being honest... Good luck

I am 9 weeks post-op,with 5 ccs in my band and I have never vomited, slimed, PB'ed or got stuck. I also seem to be able to eat anything - bread, Tomato skins etc. I do chew, chew, chew and cut food into small pieces and try to remember to put my fork down between bites. I have been completely trouble free so far.

I'm a cronic sinus sufferer, and it looks like post nasal stuff can clog it and cause all this nastiness? Where is THAT picture in my brochure?

QUOTE]

FYI I love this line, hysterical. I'm 10 weeks (11? something like that) out and a chronic snot head/allergy sufferer. I have not thrown up once, I have not been queasy/nauseated/close to tossing my Cookies once. I have gotten stuck (mildly) a couple times but it's passed in a minute or two at the most and yes, it was always when i was rushing. I've had one lovely sliming incident (earlier this week) but again, no hurling....

Now relax and BREATHE.......:smile2:

This has been my experience so far, too. As long as I take my time and eat slowly, I'm good. Good luck. The advantages of the band are far greater than the disadvantages. I am now able to control my portions in a way that I have never be able to before. That in itself is a blessing.

I'm 2.5 months post op and I haven't PB'd, or vomited, although I did slime twice, but I think it was my body trying to get sick, and I worked my way through it (it was related to my menstrual cycle).

So no, not everyone does vomit. Now I'm not saying I won't ever PB, but so far I haven't. I've got about 6.5 ccs in my 10 cc band.

Vomiting is not "normal" with the band. If someone is throwing up all the time, something is wrong. Maybe too tight, eating too fast, not chewing..........

Vomiting can also cause the band to slip. I have heard some people talk about it like it is normal and they just live with it. This could be very harmful.

Ok, here's my dental hygiene background speaking. I hear about so many people who throw up a lot and then blame the band for dental problems. Even if what you are throwing up doesn't seem acidic, it is. Once it has been in your digestive system and it comes back up it is full of acid. The enamel on your teeth will erode when it is in contact with this acid so often. The best way to avoid this is to stop the cause of throwing up. This may mean a tiny unfill. I usually tell patients I see to rinse with baking soda and Water after throwing up. This will help neutralize the acid. It will not stop the damage, but will decrease it. Once the acid hits the teeth, a 20 minute acid attack begins. Brushing your teeth does not help this.

Humming Bird - Thank you for sharing the dental info with us, although I have not had an episode with vomiting this is good information for banded and non-banded folks to know.

Cheers.

Real vomit? No, never?

Slime coming up? YES! This is just like saliva, it is nothing like actual vomiting. I have found that if I feel stuck I can always wait it out with a little sliming - rather than vomiting the food up. I am 6 months out with excellent restriction, 7.4 ccs in a 10 cc band.

If the slime thing wigs you out, you might want to go some other route rather than the band. It will almost certainly happen at some point. But really, it is not that big of a deal, and nothing like vomiting - which I really hate too!

Good luck with your decision. I am 100% thrilled with the band. :smile2:

9 months since my surgery and have never once vomited, PB'd, or slimed. Down 70 pounds. Those things do not happen to everyone or as often as it may appear from reading the postings. I think it may seem to be more frequent, because when it happens, there are many questions or concerns posted. Just my perception.

I agree. People come here to LBT to ask other bansters about a problem they are having at the time.

I am deathly afraid of puking too. I would rather swim with rats ala Fear Factor than barf. Last night it almost happened with the worst food ever: fish. I ate salmon too fast and all of a sudden I felt the need to barf but I took a gulp of my crystal lite then ran down and sucked on a candy. I kept saying to myself "you are not going to barf". It worked barely. I just had a fill, my 3rd, and didn't believe it made much difference - boy was I wrong!! I am still scared this morning from it.

So my advice: just because you can easily swallow large bites doesn't mean your band isn't working & you could still feel like throwing up.

I have an actaul fear of vomiting too and it almost held me from getting the band also. I just told myself I would be very careful and follow every rule. I have NEVER slimed, PBed or vomited EVER. Never even a nausea feeling. I take small bites, chew very well and put my fork down between bites to try to feel the full feeling before it's too late. It has all worked for me. Good luck in your decision, but don't let it hold you back because I think you can control it if you try.

I haven't vomitted, gagged, etc. Don't get scared by everything you read here because everyone is different. Just know what your goal is: being healthy, able to move around and fitting in chairs!! lol

I have never *vomited* since being banded. Vomiting, as far as I'm concerned, involves stomach heaving...which is not good for the band. I have had the occasion when something got stuck and I took a big gulp of Water which immediately came right back out with the stuck item, but that is not vomiting. It's more like a rebound effect.

I haven't figured out how to eliminate these occurrences since they happen with something I was fine with the day before...and I always pay attention to taking small bites, chewing well and waiting between bites. Some days my band seems tighter than others so I'm putting that down as the cause.

I can and do, however, lessen these occurrences by paying attention to the problem foods...those foods that generally give me problems -- eggs, breads, tuna -- and avoid them.

I suppose some people are lucky to never have this happen, but I'm not one of them.

HB, are you talking about 'throwing up' or does this also include when we slime and it comes back up. Is the slime acidic also?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
