Trouble with pre op liquid diet!!!!

Recommended Posts

Day 2 of my liquid diet and I'm jazzed!!!

I have to stop and catch myself every time I reach for something I shouldn't eat. So far so good and I plan to keep it that way. I have been eating mindlessly for so long, it's a hard habit to break.

The liquid diet is successfully interrupting my eating habits. I keep telling myself that I am in training for the band.

Dontgoggilme, didn't you have to work really hard to get to this pre-op stage? I know that I did. I want this to happen in my life. Up to this point, I've lost the war with weight. I am ready to be a winner.

You can do this. Look at all of us who are pulling for each other, for you!

The next Protein shake I drink today, I'm holding it up to cheer everyone who is having one with me!

CHEERS!

Hi I also am in my liquid stage of the pre op.The information that I recieved was 'NO' it's not ok to nibble here and there to curb the hunger, but I would like to know of one over weight person who can do this 100%.So don't be discouraged and try to do better one day at a time.It is very hard but it will be worth it.Good luck.:thumbup:My pre op diet is (4) 237ml Boost/day for two weeks.

I did it - no cheating whatsoever!~~ AND lost 25 lbs pre-op. If I can do it, YOU can definitely do it!! If you're anything at all like me, your inner fat person may start to try to sabotage your efforts! It will lie to you - it will try to justify cheating by telling you that you're dying....you're not dying. You will survive!! Think of it as WAR! Do not let it win!!! You can beat this, and you will be happier with yourself for it later!! I promise!!

I'm 5 weeks out from surgery and 3 weeks from pre op, so this was very enlightening for me, Thank you all. And you are all doing very well, and this is so good for us!

I love that this is so supportive, and the advise and the kudos! Whenever I feel like I'm chickening, I just come on here to get some BOOST!

Wow! I thought my pre-op diet was bad but I at least get to have one solid meal a day. I am on my second week of the pre-op diet and I feel great. My band date is March 10th. All of your post are so inspiring. Keep up all of your hard work.

it's going ok. just had my morning Protein Shake about an hour ago and so far so good. yesterday i slipped up one time. the Soup recipes were helpful and my sister (awesome cook that she is) is making me something special today, too. some kind of soup i'm sure. but as long as things taste decent i have no complaints. it's a lot easier to stay on the liquid diet when there are a variety of options. different Soups, broths, etc. getting really nervous about banding as the date is getting closer and closer. i go for all my pre ops on monday.

My surgeon recommended the Medifast 5+ Lean and Green plan over a couple of other choices. It was more expensive, to be sure, but I also had a fairly wide variety of things to choose from- and it wasn't all liquids. I started on 23 January, thinking that I'd be having my surgery the second week of February, but due to weather issues and my insurance company, I ended up not being banded until last Friday. I chose to stay on the preop past the required 2 weeks, so if there was a cancellation in the meantime...and, lo and behold, that's exactly what happened. Out of the 8 or 9 patients he had waiting, I was the only one ready to go at short notice.

The immediate preop period is challenging...adding a new diet plan on top of all the normal preop jitters...but hang in there and follow his recommendations- the results will SO be worth it!

Best wishes to you!

Christine

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
