Any Kansas City bandsters???????

Recommended Posts

I live in Lenexa, but I went to Mexico for the surgery. I made calls to find a doctor willing to fill me and only got one "yes" from Dr. Malley, but can't get in until May. However, thanks to this site, I've got a broader list and will begin contacting them tomorrow.

However, after one month, I've developed this stabbing pain and don't have a lapband doctor here. I've made an appointment with my regular doctor, but I do not know if she'll be able to figure it out. Someone on this site suggested it may be a problem with the port...so I assume I'll need someone who performs the procedure. I'm in pain and quite worried.

JDT3 - Relax and welcome the band into your body. Everyone has these fears the night before and we are all happy we went thru the fear into the light.

I am actually being banded tomorrow 3/19 at KU West...scared to death!!!

Relax!! It wont be as bad as you may think. Things will go smoothly:) You will look back 6 months or more and say WOW that wasn't all that bad after all. I still say "why did I wait so long to do it." I wouldn't change a thing. Good Luck:)

Well Thirsday is the day!!! I am getting less nervous than I have been the last couple of weeks. When I weighed at the doctors office the day I scheduled surgery I was 340lbs. This morning, after 8 days on the pre-op, I am down to 323! I have a baby shower to go to tomorrow and I am not sure how I am going to turn down the cake and punch. I know they will question why I am not eating it. No one in my famliy, other than my mom and dad, know that I am having this done.

Kendra - You are on your way. Good job on pre-op diet and loss. At the shower, just say your tummy is a bit upset. They will all be fine with that.

You are making the right decision.

Home from the baby shower. I was worried about nothing. There was about 60 people there and no one noticed that I never got a cupcake! So 4 more days til surgery. WooHoo!!

Kendra - yippee - you will be banded soon. Today was good practice. You will always eat differently than others.

I went out to dinner tonight with ppl who do not know I've been banded. No one cares what we eat - they are enjoying their meal.

Hi Everyone, It's been a few weeks since I've been on the site. I'm a little nervous but excited at the same time, I have my first fill tomorrow. I definately have way to much freedom in the band so I'm hoping Dr. Malley goes to town with the fill. Yea for 62 degree weather!! How crazy is this?? 9 inches of snow than 62!! Keeps me on my toes.... How's everyone doing with their food choices?? Give some updates! If anyone wants to chat I'm on Bleumist@aol.com

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
