Weight Plateau- what to do?

Recommended Posts

So I am just stuck between the same couple of pounds. I keep yo-yo-ing back and forth. I am no where near my goal weight. Not even half way there yet. Anyone have any advice? I am debating doing a liquid diet to jump start things. Any other ideas to get my weight loss going again? I will be having another fill next week, so hopefully that will get me started too.

TIA!

Andrea

Hello,

I'm having the same problem. I'm about halfway to my ultimate goal.

I went to the doctor last week and they said I needed a little unfill. They took out .2cc. I haven't had a PB since.

Still no movement in weight though.:)

I'm going to do 1.5 hours workout a day instead of one and see if that gets my weight moving down again.:wink2:

Good luck to you,:frown:

Maggie

I will tell you what my trainer tells me; increase the incline on the treadmill and increase the speed. I walk on the treadmill at an incline of 7 at a speed of 3.2. I feel it in my butt and hips. An hour of cardio per day and at least strength 3x per week.

Omg I'm so glad I found this cuz I am in the same exact boat!! I always lose like 7-9 lbs all at once it seems (like 2 week period) and then 3 weeks nothing..nada. Inches come off here and there but I am about 35-40 lbs away from my goal and I cannot budge this time. I've been losing and gaining the same 2-3 lbs for 3 weeks and its really irritating. I don't want to make any DRASTIC changes bc I have tried hard not to make this a diet, but do things I can do for life and doing a liquid diet to get a few lbs off isn't realistic to me, bc knowing me, Ill go right back up if I eat 3 oz of chicken. I have an appt next week as well and they haven't given me a fill the last 3 times I've been in. I haven't had a fill since early Nov. I currently have 6 cc's in a 10 cc's band and while I thought I was doing great and maybe needed a small fill, I almost pb'ed last night. Soooo I don't know, Im going to try to drink more Water and double check my Protein everday and see what happens. I think platues are just part of the journey, and just keep pluggin away, it'll come off. In the meantime I'm trying hard not to stress over it, I've come this far by god I'm finishing it this time :( Good luck to you all!!

Yep I did this week. I go to the gym 5x's a week and burn between 5-650 each time. Where as I was going only 1-3 times a week. Talk about being in Onederland! thats my 2-3 lbs! I have been between 201 and 203 everytime..no more..no less. These couple pounds are keeping me from hitting my first goal! I signed up for a biggest loser competition at work starting this week so I am gonna kick it in the butt and they are comin off if they like it or not! :( I have a tough love relationship with my body lol

I'm there with you, sister! I've lost 60 pounds and I'm completely stalled. I am a teacher, and I haven't lost much at all since Christmas and I attribute that, in part, to the fact that I haven't worked almost any at all since Christmas. We have missed 13 days for snow since Christmas break. Aside from missing the daily activity of work, I exercise after work with my friends/colleagues, so since I haven't been at work, I haven't been exercising either. I know that the decrease in my activity has to be an issue. Probably THE issue, but I'm hoping next week's fill will help, too.

I am right there with you JR i have been between 204-205 for 3 weeks and i am still just eating 1100 calories and working out 5 days a week. I want to get to onederland so bad. I think i might do a liquid diet for a few days to see if i can get the scale to move.

All of this work-out sounds great! Weight loss plateau is normal. One thing to remember is that as you are working out, you are replacing fat with muscle mass. A good thing. However, this also means that your weight loss will go slower.

In my prime (now an old timer .. ha ha) I went from 170 to 228. Began working out hard with weights and aerobics. Dropped to 200 lbs. However, my waist was thinner at 34" and 200 lbs than it was at 170 and 42". Muscle mass is more dense than fat mass.

Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged. Loss of body fat is much more important than weight.

GOOD LUCK TO EACH OF YOU!

Banded 19 January 2010.

P.S. I won't tell you my sad, sad story of getting old and fat. LOL

I am stalled as well, the high Protein diet I was loosing on has stopped. I guess my body is just used to it now. I just bought the fat flush book by Mary Louise Gittlemen and will go shopping for my groceries this weekend. My (non banded) friend lost 10 pounds her first week on it so I am going to do it. It's very basic but will take a lot of pre prep.

I too have been struggling with a long plateau. I've only lost 1 lbs. since Dec. 22 and I've been working very hard -- increased my cardio, am doing more strength work -- up to 5 times per week -- and exercising at least 100 mins. per day, 7 days a week. I have not changed any of my eating at all -- I tend to pretty much eat the same foods and I very seldom eat anything I'm not supposed to -- like candy, Cookies, etc. I made a commitment at the beginning of this journey that I would eat healthy (not diet) 98% of the time. I eat fish at least 4 times per week. Some people are trying to tell me I should increase my calories, but truly, I'm afraid to do that.

I have noticed the past week or so that my clothes are getting big - really big and I need to get some smaller sizes again. So, although I'm not losing pounds, I have lost lots and lots of inches so I still appear to be losing fat - I am apple shaped -- had lots of belly fat. I'm very short -- only 5'1".

Since my surgery I have been so cold and I was starting to think that maybe my body was trying to hold on to the fat too keep me warm because it's winter? I notice a lot of us posting here are from colder climates. Good luck to you all, keep on working the program -- maybe Spring will bring us sunshine AND get our scales moving again. Take care, Linda

I lose and gain the same 3 pounds for 3 weeks and then my lowest weight becomes my highest and I yoyo again. It sucks but that's my body. My surgeon tells me we don't constantly lose it's more of like a staircase lose a little, stabilize, lose a little, stabilize. Personally i put my scale away cause it's just making me frustrated. I'm going by the way my clothes fit at this point. My Nut told me to change up the food and put more carbs in my diet. I was only getting them from fruits and veggies. I know I need to drink more Water. I joined a gym 2/9 and gained 3 pounds and my thighs and calves are larger/ I know it's a temporary thing and I feel a ton better. I have to quit beating myself up over the number. and concentrate on how i look and feel Oh well That's Barb's thought for the day.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
