I was banded on Monday, and everything seemed to be normal. I attended a banquet for one of my sons sports tonight and they served the kids pizza from one of the better New York style pizza parlors here in town. I could see myself digging into the sausage pizza and imagined myself eating a slice. Even cheating to have one bite. I didn't do it. The pizza smelled so good. :crying: Didn't think that would have an effect on me.

Right now I feel like a drug addict that needs a fix. I'm having a real hard time with the shakes, Jello, and popsicles. Please give me a comment how you got past this and survived. I still have a few days before I can try cottage cheese, and refried beans..... The shakes seem to be making nuatious. I just want to go to sleep and wakeup in 6 weeks. :scared2:

Yes, the very beginning with the band was the hardest part. You don't have any restriction yet because there is no Fluid in the band so you're HUNGRY and not eating much! Hang in there! This too shall pass!!

In the mean time, keep the Fluid foods coming. Slim Fast was my friend. As soon as I got to mushy I started making spaghetti sauce (meat and all) and just blending the heck out of it in a blender, noodles and all. It was like a Protein filled Tomato Soup. It really helped. I also made a spicy tortilla Soup while I was on the liquid phase that I blended and strained. It made me feel like I was eating something. .

Once this passes you'll be back to eating pretty big portions (or at least I was) until I had my band adjusted correctly. It took me 6 months to get to my sweet spot so don't give up!!!

Thanks for everyone's comments. It sounds like this happens to everyone. I went to bed to get some rest after my post, and feel better. The pizza smell stuck with me for a while there. The Jello doesn't taste so bad this morning, but I'm worried about the end of the day. Fridays are usually a night we go out to eat as a family. How long does Bandster Hell usually last? A couple weeks, or is it the six months before I find my sweet spot? Thanks for suggestions on the changes you all made in food preparation. I don't start the mushy until late next week. Right now I understand it's only Water, Jello and protien shakes. I weighed myself this morning at 278.4. The day I went in for surgery I was around 292. The day I weighed in for my preop I was 301 on the doctors scale. Since I can see progress that keeps me fighting. This morning my BP was 133/75, and my sugar was 122. Both of these are much improved. My sugar can range from 200-400. Thanks for everyone's support and comments. Believe me they are very much helpful and supportive.

Bandster hell aside, I think it's pretty typical to experience a sort of post-op grief--realizing that the change in our relationship with food will impact all sorts of things--including Friday nights with our families, our kids' banquets, etc.

Then, too, you have the effects of the actual surgery acting on you--meds, hormonal fallout from the trauma/stress, etc. They wreak havoc, too.

It can feel pretty overwhelming.

Once you are able to eat solid food again, it really does get better. You can go out with your family and order from the menu---without derailing yourself.

Then, everything seems possible once again :scared2:

Hang in there, you're doing awesome! You're right in probably the most difficult time of this journey (it was for me, anyway), but every day that you follow your post op diet to a "T" you are allowing proper healing and setting yourself up for long-term success with the band. You've come this far, what's one more week? Compared to the rest of your life waiting in front of you, thinner, healthier, happier, a week is nothing! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Keep up the great work and feel free to send me a private message if you want to talk or need support. Congratulations on your success so far!

Val

Shortly after I was banded I went to the movies with my daughters. I was on liquids then too. The smell of the popcorn almost killed me!!! I swear, movie theaters are the worst. But I did it too! I refrained. I must warn you that once you do start on regular food again, the scale may slow down a bit. I just got my second fill on Monday and the scale is fianlly moving again! If you get really hungry try some applesauce or creamed Soups. You should be very proud of yourself for resisting that pizza. You have it in you to do this!!! Best wishes!!!

Wanted to say thanks to all for your support. I feel much better today. I felt like I was ready to jump off the mountain there for a couple of days. I was ready to indulge. I changed up the shakes, and changed the Jello. Yesterday I strained the chicken noodle soop and just ate the broth from that. Today I weighed in at 275. I'm down 19 pounds from the start of the preop diet, and my preop visit was 301. My blood pressures were 117/73. I was addmitted to a cardiac center earlier this year because my bps were 200/110. My sugars this morning were 119. I usually range in the 200-400. I've only taken about 50 units of insulin this week. I ususally go through 200-300 units a day which costs me $600 every couple of months in co-pays. Thanks for everyone's support comments. Sounds like everyone's experienced the same feelings. I just wanted to share the success I reached in a short week, and I'm focused on that versus the "pizza".

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
