How's the October Bansters doing?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Oct 6 in Illinois and unlike many of the post I only lost 3lbs pre-opt :) first check up I dropped only 8lbs. since then I have been dropping on average 1-1.5lbs a week which is great by my doctor standard but as I read everyone's post I dont think I have been as lucky. I am looking to lose 12lbs by mid march. I eat around 900-1400 cal everyday and workout about 5 or 6 days a week. So I'm very motivated but sometimes its dishearting to read everyones post of excellent great news and I cant relate to that great news. So thats my october bandsters story I look forward to hearing more post from the october bandsters.

Hey Red

I'm so very sorry about your daughter I hope she gets well soon.

I'm glad I came out tonight and read these posts I was feeling very much the same way like I'm teetering on the edge of failure I had surgery October 16, 09 and lost 35 lbs and seem to be stuck right there over the last few weeks I only weigh in once a week or so but haven't seen much change lately. It helps to know I'm not alone and that this seems to be a rest stop on this journey we've embarked on. I'll be checking back more regularly and see how everyone is doing and I hope we all get over this hump. *smooches*

addition a new day 02/04/10 -

Just to let you guys know I'm wearing size 18 jeans today I feel better thanks again

These posts actually caused me to relinquish my lurker status and make a post. :) Red, I hope your daughter recovers soon! Please hang in there!

I was banded 10/16 and have had my ups and downs. I reached restriction very quickly, and was actually too tight on just my 2nd fill. I had 2 small unfills in the next few weeks, and finally a teeny fill in January that got me to my sweet spot. I'm going in tomorrow for yet another unfill as I appear to be having some problems--severe pain between my shoulder blades anytime I eat solid foods. (So I’ve been back on mostly liquids for almost a week now! Ick!) The journey has not proven to be easy, by any means... but I've lost a total of 32 lbs and that's the most I've ever lost at one time without starting to regain. If I focus on the big picture instead of these hills and valleys, I realize that this is still a very GOOD decision I've made. And besides, I'm incredibly stubborn and I WILL make it through this!

I knew going into this that I must have some metabolic issues because I didn't eat nearly as much as some of my thin friends or my thin hubby, yet it was near impossible for me to lose weight. I could maintain if I tried, but to lose was very hard.

Now that I'm banded, I eat on average 800-1000 calories/day. I have had some weeks that I haven't lost, but the last 4 weeks I've lost a steady 1-2 lbs each week. It still feels slow to me and I get frustrated, but I try to keep reminding myself that I couldn't have lost even that much before the band. My secrets have been water and exercise. I must keep my Fluid intake up--64oz is the bare minimum. I also must exercise. It doesn't have to be super intense for me, I just have to make sure I get up and move--treadmill, recumbent bike, a stroll around the neighborhood. I have a back injury, so I'm prevented from doing a lot of things, but if I don't drink my Water and don't get my heart rate up for at least 10-15 mins/day I am guaranteed to not lose weight, even on such a low calorie intake. I know a lot of you are working out more than that, and I'm hoping that as I drop more weight, I will be able to handle more. I actually did the LAP-BAND in an attempt to avoid back surgery.

I’m convinced that each person has to find his/her own “secrets” but I thought I’d share mine in case they help anyone. They may/probably will change over time, but at this point in my journey, this is what is working for me.

Jenn

it sounds like everyone is doing good since being banded. I was banded in October as well but sadly I just got news that my band has already eroded into my stomach and I am getting it removed in 2 weeks. My doctor is also going to stitch up the hole in my stomach and in 3 months I can get a new band if I want. Wish me luck that I don't gain my weight back. I am so scared that I will and feeling a little depressed that all my hard work was for nothing :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
