when you have good restrictio it is hard to guzzle Water because it will cause shoulder pain and made you burp alot. If you drink too much you might simply throw it back up. I have to be careful not to drink too fast while at the gym or I will have to stop and wait for the water to pass. It is like eating too fast. Not a good idea.

Atleast that is from my experience

I had an example of this a couple days ago! Not Good! I drank too fast and boy did I pay for it.

What happens is, that if you have quite a bit of restriction, the band has narrowed down the opening into the rest of the stomach. If you drink too much, too fast, it can't run through this narrow area fast enough. Therefore, it pools up in your esophagus and that is what causes the pain, pressure, excess saliva, and throwing up.

AlienBandit is right "not a good idea":crying:

I guess I'm not at full restriction. Am I doing any harm by drinking too fast to the pouch? or is it just sliding thru?

If it isn't painful, you should be OK. I think of the band opening as a funnel. Add liquid to it and if it going in too fast, then it pools at the top and filters down through. It won't hurt the funnel, it just takes a while to drain. But sometimes you'll see bubbles come up through the liquid. That would be the burps and gurgles we get.

When we drink slower, like adding liquid slowly through a funnel, it drains down in an even stream.

Guzzling Water is almost more painful for me than eating too fast. My doctor told me that it is almost like a funnel now and when you gulp water it has to slowing make it's way through the funnel.

I have 'comfortable' restriction.. basically I can eat smaller amounts, am losing weight, but I'm not strictly on 1/2 cup of food at a time. I can still guzzle!!

Thanks for all the input. It helps me to understand all the aspects of the band... Thanks again Barb:tt2:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
