I went in under floro to get a fill on monday. Well my Doctor said that my port has flipped. I go in Friday for surgery to fix it. He said its supposed to look like a upside down tophat but its actully like a tophat thats not upside down. I am freaking out. I don't want to deal with pain. Anyone have any tips for me? If you have had this surgery how bad did you feel after? I had surgery for my lapband June 2009 I have lost 148 pounds so far. Do you think its from my weight loss? I dont really work out hard on the weights yet. I do work out cardio an hour a day. Please someone let me know what to expect.;)

I haven't had problems with my port but my friend's daughter has had her port flip twice.

she has to go in for surgery in a few days for the port to be fixed AGAIN!.

The first time she had problems they kept sticking her and couldn't find the port so finally did a fluroscope. They stuck her 8 times before they finally gave up. She lost a few lbs but not what she should have because she hadn't had any fills yet.

She said the surgery was not as painful as the first since all they did was go in and flip the port and stitch it to muscle. She had 3 cuts to fix the port.

Once they fixed the port she got a fill and hasn't been able to eat much at all, vomiting all the time and not able to eat solids. They wanted to do an unfil but couldn't access the port again.

Her Dr keeps telling her that the chances are unlikely that she would flip again but it was within 2 months from the first surgery to fix it until the 2nd flip

My goodness I hope things work out for her. I am glad to hear it does not hurt as bad as the first surgery. I am a big baby for pain. I just wonder how mine flipped. Hope he does something diffrent or better so that sucker dont flip again.;)

OMG congrats on losing the 148 lbs! That's amazing!

I go in for my first fill tomorrow (under fluoro) and I'm worried I am going to hear the same thing. Did you have any indications that it flipped? Did the doc tell you what could have caused it?

Gosh, it's always a new set of worries with this thing LOL!

Lots of luck on your revision. You will be in my thoughts. Please let us know how it goes.

I have a friend who had a port revision... our surgeon just moved it to a different location, very similar to what you are having done.. she said the pain after was nothing... and it was done outpatient....

I had one side of port come undone. I had it restitched. Try to get them to stitch it to mesh. It helps make it a more permanent thing.

Surgery went great. I am back to work. I had surgery on friday and came back to work monday. I am sore still but nothing too painful. I worried for nothing. I still can not sleep on my stomach but its alright for now. I do feel hungry a little more but I think it has to do with the pain meds I am on. He did a fill while he fixed my port. I had no idea it flipped didnt feel anything diffrent. I do notice the pains I was having under my ribs went away. So it must of been from the port.

How does it feel is it painful. I had most of my Fluid removed in July because I got a small fill, a month before, and nothing was staying down, incl Water. I just got a small one put back in on Friday, and it's the same thing, Most of the time I cannot hold water. I am wondering if this comes from a port being flipped.

I just had pain under my ribs when I would take a deep breath. If your port is flipped they would not beable to give you a fill in most cases. If you can not keep Water down you may need to call your doctor for a unfill. Thats not very safe. I have been to the er twice for being sick from my band. I had to be put on iv Fluid and get some of my band unfilled. I just got it filled again on friday. I only have 3 ccs in mine and fill very restricted. Everyones body is diffrent. I think my port flipped because of all the weight I have lost and the way my body has changed so much. I do have to say I would do this all over again. I still have to get to my goal weight. I am not there yet.

Congrats on your weight loss of 148 lbs.. I weighed 252 lbs and had surgery on 9/24/09. I went in Nov. for my first fill and my port had flipped... needless to say I flipped out because I just had surgery up until that point I had lost 25 lbs. My revision was on on 1/14/10 and my weight at that time was 230.. today I weigh 222 lbs.. and with the revision they repositioned the port. The pain was minimal and I came back to work yesterday.... I am hoping that this incident does not happen anytime soon.. but all I can say is that there is a slight chance that this can occur and that I hope everything goes well for you.. oh they just open one incision and the procedure was only about 45 mins... preping and anesthesia..

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
