Losing my patience!!!!

Recommended Posts

Well it's been 6 months since I started this whole process and I'm still working with my nutritionist - 3 more visits!!! It's required by CIGNA for a 6 month nutrition program. I'm completely annoyed because the first nutritionist the surgeon sent me to kept canceling on me and that pushed me back to a first visit in Oct! Looks like I won't be getting banded till June now - since I will be done with the nutritionist in April - BUT I'm going on vacation in May (thinking I was going to be banded in March and good to go!) so now they think I should wait till after my trip!! I'm looking at almost a YEAR for this to get done! This is not what I signed up for! Losing my patience and my mind!! I won't lie that these past 6 months went by pretty quick, but I guess just knowing that I'm almost at the end - I'm just getting very anxious. Sorry to vent but I just needed to get that out. :smile2:

been there. My 6 month process took 9, and I was looking at this vacation scheduled. If it had been another week, I would have postponed my surgery until after my trip to WDW.

Hope all comes together for you. In the end, in my case, I am just glad it did come together, that I survived it all, and that I am on the other side of the surgery. At the time i was so frustrated and angry, and thought the world was coming to an end.

Thank you so much MissyMS for your kind words - I should be looking at it in a positive way - I will be banded soon enough. I too am going to WDW in May. I was hoping to be banded by then and down some weight, but that's not in the cards. But it will be here before I know it!

How funny. Hopefully you can lose a bit as you go along. i'm not where I was hoping to be, but i'm ahead of where I was!

Now, I have to admit, I'm a bit worried about still feeling a bit weak. I've 1 1/2 weeks to build up some energy!

A quick question if you don't mind, if you keep your current schedule, how long after banding would you be traveling?

Very funny MissyMS! I lost a little here and there. But I have polysistic syndrome and that's not helping me at the moment. That's why this band is my last attempt to lose weight. Hope you have a GREAT trip!! When are you going?

Hi Chapamar - if I finish in the first week of April and then wait for approval from CIGNA I'm probably looking at the end of April and I leave May 8. So that's not enough time. BUT I found a loop whole - which I hope will work - my nutritionist never saw me in November which would have been my 2nd visit, so if I can get 2 appt in in Feb and have my final visit in March I should be good! We are going to try it. I don't see it being an issue since it's been 6 consecutive months.

I have Cinga too. I didn't see my doctor 6 times in 6 months either. I saw him 6 times in 8 months. It was still approved. Good Luck, and don't let it get you down. It will happen.

I know just how you feel. My 1st appt w/ surgeon was 11/08. I had to have 6 months of scheduled weigh ins with my pcp doc. Surgery finally 9/09. I'm down 50 pounds and feel great. Everything happens for a reason or so they say. Hang in there, it will be here before you know it.

Hang in there girl...It will happen soon enough..I had to have 6 months of nutrition counseling before I could have mine. Then 1 week before my surgery, they found I had a pulmonary shunt, and it was put off another month. Talk about depressing..uughhhh. However, I was finally banded on the 7th month which was Dec 28 th, 2009. I think I am out about 17 days out and feeling great...Good luck, dont give up and may the force be with you.......onenuttynurse

I think I was the biggest complainer ever about how long it took to get my surgery. I complained every time i had an appointment and it took me 8 months. However, now that I am banded, I am glad it took that long because I was REALLY ready when it happened. If you read some of the posts from people who have a short period of time between their first appt and the surgery you will see a lot of them really struggle. It may not seem like it now, but it will happen and it will all be worth it!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
