Age specific support group NOT specific anymore

Recommended Posts

Do anyone notice that in age specific groups that no one is the right age example

I was reading something in the 20's (age) support group and i see 50 yr olds posting and replying in this forum i think that is kinda annoying sometimes. I will like to read about someone in my age group and how they are liking that lapband I cant compare my body with an 50 yr old

its kinda annoying

:scared2:this is just my rant. anyone notice besides me?????

Sometimes people have some very wise advice no matter what age, Should they not share it because the forum is not thier age group ? I've seen women post in the man's room and vise versa. If this bothers you so much just look at the age on the profile and if it doesn't meet your needs just skip that post, Your not being forced to read it. best advise is don't let the little things bother you. And there are times when people see a thread that is interesting to them and they click on it without noticing what forum it is.

I am guilty of this. I look at "new posts", find one that I want to reply to, and then oops! I just posted in the men's room! I don't know why I just can't stay out of the men's room. LOL:blush:

Hey...54 yr old here...Like Hummingbird stated, sometimes we see the new posts or a thread that looks interesting and do not notice that it is a "group" thread. Hang around LBT long enough and it might just happen to you too!

LOL @ Apples!

Well, I checked my posts and I am guilty of answering a question in the teens section about eating out. Oh the horrors. But in my defense, I usually just hit the "new posts" like hummingbird.

I promise to be more mindful and respectful in the future.

I too use the "New Posts" button but I check to see which forum an article is posted in before I click on it. Look to the right, it tells you.

Do you have any idea how many times I've had to bite my tongue and not reply in the teen or xtian forums?

Women answering questions that men have for other men is a pet peeve of mine.

Hell, I don't go talking about child birth or riding the cotton pony. :smile2:

I wish you had bitten your tongue when you said ridding the white pony, That's just gross. Most of the time when someone post in a forum that may not apply to their age group, They have something enlighting to share. I would once again suggest you just skip the post if it bothers you. And I realize you can look over and see what forum it's in but sometimes you just don't think about it. You said you wouldn't answer a question on childbirth or a womens period, Well if you were a OB/GYN I wouldn't mind a little advise from a man. That's where the enlighting part comes in. You have to have something valid to add.

That is what i am talking about!!! I go to an AGE SPECIFIC (20's) forum for that purpose. Maybe I dont know what AGE SPECIFIC means i guess i have to look it up:wink2:

If i had a non specific question i would post it as a regular post. If im in the AGE SPECIFIC group asking about weight lost or any excessive skin ect.. a 20yr old response will be different then a 45 yr old response

I can not compare my self or problems with someone who is older.

Its like someone older is talking about menopause in an AGE SPECIFIC FORUM and a 20 yr old is commenting on it by saying its ok you will get over it. You are going to be thinking to yourself: look at this kid he/she is like 20 they know nothing about this ugh wrong forum kid.

Point well made, but we are all here to help each other out.

I will take any advice/help anyone wants to give.

;)

If I ever try to reach out "by accident" being 55, I apologize in advance.

What if you're 29 but have the life experience of a 60 year old, where do you post?

A 29 yr old won't have the life experience of a 60 yr old that is a whole different era what 60 yr old went through and what a 29 yr old go through is way off base, that's 30 yrs less experience then a 60 yr old.. if the times were like it was 60 yrs ago I don't think a lot of 20 yr olds now would be able to handle it. So point of this is I would never say I have more life experience as a 60 yr old its just does not make sense

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
