Hello all, I am considering the lap band and for vanity reasons I'd like to ask if anyone can show me pictures of your port once you've reached your goal weight. I am a man wanting to get to a 24 BMI. at 5'11" tall that would be 175 pounds. I am not worried about scarring but rather the protrution of the port itself. I know everyone is different and the locations will vary but I would just like to see what we are talking about. Thanks in advance.

Hello, no one out there wants to show what their port looks like at their goal? I am headed to a seminar tomorrow evening and am very excited. Thanks in advance to anyone who posts.

I'm still too big to see my port but I can feel it. I've read ppl have them moved after all the weight loss at times if they protrude too much. Sorry no help

I have 35 more pounds to loose and I can definately feel my port if I push down on it but I don't think it'll protrude at all once I'm at goal. I've lost 100 pounds in 8 months.

Hi There.

I was very concerned about my port as well. My doc told me I would be able to see it if I became very preggers or had the luck of one day having a small % of body fat. Also, There are many places ur doc can put it. I chose to have it about 2 inches to the left of my belly button. He made my incision in the cave of my belly button so my scar will be hidden. I am happy. It looks like I only have 3 tiny incisions when in fact I have 4. If u look at my pics u wll see my post op pic.

I just got my band so I'm not at goal yet, but my surgeon did advise me that the standard lapband port would probably show a little once I get to to my goal weight of 149 (which is about a 25 BMI I think). But, she said she can combine port revision surgery w/any other stomach surgery I might have later if I want to go w/the lower profile lapband port later.

Ultimately, I'll have to see how I feel when I get there, but I suspect that if I am feeling vain enough to care about my port, I'll probably be getting a Tummy Tuck so I can have the port replaced w/a low profile port at that time. The reason she didn't put in the lapband low profile port to begin with is because it is hard to find for fills when you still have a lot of excess weight to lose. You might also consider the Realize band if a flatter port is very important to you because the Realize band comes w/a flatter wider port. I didn't choose Realize because I didn't like the design of the actual band as much, but that is just my personal opinion. Both bands get great reviews and work well so if making sure the port doesn't show is a high priority, I would go w/Realize instead (if your surgeon offers it).

This is kind of far out there, but I've also heard that lapband recently aquired a company that is developing technology that will eliminate the need for a port at all. Basically, there will be a reservoir of fill Fluid and the fill will be able to be done by a sort of remote control device. So, ultimately, way way down the line, maybe I would want to get that once the techology is perfected.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
