I'm on day 5 of a 8 day pre-op diet. We get Medifast and Healthwise products. The Medifast products aren't too bad. I like the chicken noodle Soup (made with broth) and the scrambled eggs. Now the Healthwise products are broth with alittle bit of floating things that are supposed to be Pasta. I wish I would have been able to taste the food and I would have gotten more of the things I like. These products come in packs and you add broth or Water. We are aloud 6 packs a day and all the s/f Jello, s/f popicles, and s/f drinks we want. I can't wait for 1/11.:smile2:

I'm more than half way done my pre-op and I can honestly say that day 3 and day 4 were the hardest for me. Since then although I have an "empty" feeling. I rarely think of it as hunger. On occasion if I smell something cooking I'll think ohhhh I am hungry, but otherwise I'm just cruising along. Anxious excited and motivated towards my surgery date and the rest of my life.

I'm down 17 lbs already woooohoooo

You can do it!!! Just have to keep your eye on the goal ....

I will be going on a full liquid diet for 14 days soon, my doc gave me the diet sheet for post op, which has the list of full liquids on there, and I also cant go over 1200 calories a day, but my question to you guys is, have any of you found any foods, that are low in calories and filling. I can have cream of wheat, so im thinking ill eat that alot, but it depends on the calories. and also, what about drinking lots and lots of Water all day, does something like that help? or does it flush your stomach out and make you more hungerier? one more thing, the guy at GNC told me to buy the colon cleanse cuz its Fiber and fills u up, and has no calories, i havent seen anyone mention that on here. thanks!

I am on day 6 of my three-week pre op diet. I have Optifast shakes/bars to replace three meals a day, plus 2 cups of green non-starchy veggies and two pieces of fruit per day. Many surgeons in Aus do not allow even the two pieces of fruit, so I'm pretty lucky! The first few days were HORRENDOUS, but my body seems to be a bit more used to it now so I feel okay. Bored to tears by the shakes and bars, but okay :thumbup:

Good luck to everyone on pre op diets... it will all be over soon (well, that's what I keep telling myself!) :thumbup:

I'm on a pre-op full liquid diet until surgery. There have been 2 times where I felt ravenous and had solid food, but apart from that I've been okay. I think my initial problem was that I was consuming only 320 calories a day, because I thought I could not have milk products and stuck to Protein shakes (160 cal./35 grams Protein each), broth and Water. I just got to a breaking point where I had to have something. Now that I've been told milk products are okay, it's far more manageable. The broth satisfies my craving for non-Protein Drink food and milk products mix it up. I wouldn't like to do this forever, but I have to admit I'm enjoying the "empty" feeling. I noticed after I had food (which had some carbs) I felt bloated.

I don't have to do a pre-op diet. I just have to start getting used to eating less and more healthy and not drinking soft drinks. My doctor doesn't require the 14 day pre-op liquid diet, thank goodness.

I just started today on my ten-day pre-op diet and it definitely went a lot better than I had feared! I have a list from which I can choose 5 starch, 2 dairy, 2 Protein portions, plus 2-3 pieces of fruit and unlimited vegetables (except potatoes, parsnips and sweetcorn.) Tea, coffee and diet drinks are also unlimited.

with all the differences that everyone's pre-op diet seems to have, i am starting to wonder how each doc decides what they think is acceptable and unacceptable for their patients. i mean, i've heard so many different things and it's so frustrating. like one doc saying Protein Shakes only. another saying anything as long as it's a liquid. others allowing some solids or mushies. some saying no dairy and others saying make sure to have lots of dairy. how the heck do they decide???

      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
