Which is worse for your band...?

Recommended Posts

First let me clear up a misconception: PBing is not the same thing as vomiting. Vomiting empties the entire contents of your stomach/pouch and can lead to slippage if your doc didn't stitch the band down to anchor it. Vomiting brings up stomach acid/bile. Vomiting is bad. Period.

PBing is gagging up a stuck bite of food that is actually sitting in your esophagus and not able to pass into your pouch. This is usually the result of eating too fast/not chewing well enough.taking bites that are too big. Getting stuck is the same thing but it just doesn't gag back up. PBing isn't fun but the times I've done it, I was actually relieved to get the stuck bite up and out because it was causing me physical pain. It's still not the best thing because the fact that it's happening is a clear sign you aren't eating properly and need to focus on improving that.

Very useful information.. Thanks

Thanks for the info, but what does "PB" stand for? And is it something that just happens or is it like a cough. You know when you get something stuck in your throat, you purposely try to cough it up, is it like that?

I notice most times when I have anything other than Water, I'll have pressure between my breastbone and it goes away after about an hour. Even protien drinks will do it. Does that mean it was stuck? I don't have any Fluid in my band, but I thought maybe I was still too swollen for the Soup to just slide through.

Well, it might be like tht for some. but it isnt for me.

PB means productive burp. But for me, a pb is definitely a vomit. It is a forceable ejection and it involves stomach spasms, and forceful contraction. It hurts.

Its not so unpleasant as vomiting though becuase there's not a load of hot, acidy vomit coming up, through your nose, there's no nausea, and strangely I dont panic about it like I do vomiting.

But it can cause slippage. Its not as simple as a burp or cough.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
