To Tell or Not to Tell?
I haven't been banded yet but I have been telling ppl that I've been considering it...Big mistake. Not everyone is being supportive. It hurts a little so I've decided to stop talking about it and just do it. When I at my goal weight if they ask then I will share.

Can someone explain the process?
I have united Health Care choice for city employees. They didn’t require anything other than a letter of medical necessity from my doctor and a BMI over 40 or 35 with co-morbidities. But the surgeon Central Carolina Surgery wanted 5 years notes showing my weight, letter from my doctor, sleep study questionnaire, two letters from friends and one from myself. Once I turn in my packet with all the information (which I did yesterday) the will call the insurance and get pre approval, then will they’ll schedule me to meet the surgeon. That day they will schedule all my other appointments. But they wouldn’t even talk to me until I went through the seminar. I think every surgeon is different.

Self-Fill are you doing this?
In my opinion people who self fill so that they can party have not made the commitment to the band and the lifestyle change. These are the people who will not lose the weight or gain it back and then want to blame the band. If I do this I’m in it full force….maybe self filling to party or eat more is why you needed the band in the 1st place.

Now family does not want me to get the band!!!
I say sit down in a room by yourself no tv or radio. Weigh the pros and cons. If the cons outweigh the pros then so be it let it go...but if the pros out weight the cons, (pros being better health and more time with your family)make a decision to stop lsitening to other people. Its your family ofcourse they are concerned with your health..they love you. But this is your desicion to make. And we are here to support you!!

Why couldn't YOU lose weight without the lap band?
For me it's not that I cant, but what I will be using it for is a toll to help me. Whenever I lost weight in the past I used a tool. Weight Watcher, LA weight loss ect... but when I couldnt afford them anymore I gained it right back. The band for me is a long term tool that will help me get down to a healthy weight.

Losing my will power???
Find a way to work out at home. Resistance bands and a walking or dance video is always fun. If you are having pains call your doctor and let him/her know.

Need some encouragement
I’m trying to get my packet together. Central Carolina Surgery (not my insurance company) wants a recorded of my weight for the last 5 years. The problem is I have moved from 3 different cities in the last 5 years and in that time I’ve seen about 5 different doctors. Everyone wants to charge me $10.00-$12.00 for my records and wants me to come pick them up in person. I don’t mind doing it but I’m getting a little frustrated. They also want a letter of necessity from my doctor. Not sure how to go about getting that what if my doc does not approve? Some encouraging words please!!!!

Okay I decided to get banded. What's next
Okay after researching and becoming a member of LapBand Talk yay... I've decided to get banded. I don’t plan on doing it until January since I'm using my flex spending account to pay for the out of pocket expenses. My insurance covers 80%. I have signed up for a seminar...and made a apt with my doc to get the pre-determination that my insurance company is requesting. Is there anything else I should prepare for?
