I am hurting badly...
I had my surgery on October the 6th - couple of days ago and today is the third day. Since I woke up in recovery I was feeling excruciating pain in my chest, lungs and my neck. Doctor even prescribed hydromorphine for me - well, it doesn't work... I have to go back to work in two days and I am dreading it. I never though that this surgery would bring me so much pain.

Messy subject
I am starving. I have to do 2 days of clear liquids only diet and I am at the end of the first day only. I am starving. But I guess it is worth it. 1 day left till the surgery - I can do it.

will I loose my current friends?
for example - I have a great great friend who is a girl. She is obese like me and we love hanging out together because we understand each others struggles. Now that I am going to loose weight she mentioned that she is very jealous and that she wishes her insurance approved her too. I told he that we will go to a seminar together to see if that was a good option for her. So, now that she mentioned that she is jealous I am not talking about the surgery or the weight loss a lot not to irritate or push her away. I want to keep our friendship but I am afraid that my surgery will pull us apart. I am having my surgery in two days and I am so excited - I am telling everyone again and again how happy I am to have it but I cannot bring myself to share my excitement with her not to make her upset. Help. Trying to keep my friend - has anyone gone through this?

Double Check EVERYTHING
I work nights so I am working that night before the surgery. I am getting off at 6am, in hospital by 7am, surgery at 8am. It all sounds a little bit too goo to be true. But you never know. I guess it all depends on the hospital. So nervous.

Smoking and affects on lap band
I am ashamed of myself. I have not been told whether or not to quit - since I do not need to have a nicotine test - they just told me not to smoke 3 days before the surgery. I have 5 days before my surgery and I am waiting till the last moment to quit. I know I won't be able to smoke after I get banded, but it is so hard to quit right now since I am so nervous about the surgery. And the fact that I smoke makes me even more nervous... so I smoke... I hate this habit. I wish I have never started. It is so bad for me.

Help! STARVING on pre-op diet!
wow - I am hearing a lot of scary stories about the pre - op diets here. I am supposed to have a 2 day liquid pre - op diet before this upcoming Wednesday and I am really nervous because I love food and sometimes I unintentionally go and eat and then realize what I have done. Really weird. So, I guess I got lucky not to be starving for as long as two weeks.

Dr. Hugh Houston - hello everyone

Pre OP Cost
tell them to put you on a payment plan. my deductible is $1600 too but I only had to pay ( only, heh?! ) $700 pre - op

Fees not covered by insurance???
My doctor doesn't have any crazy fees like that.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Why don't you change your primary doctor?

Not excited
my surgery date is October the 6th. I have been waiting for about 4 months now and I did also read and watched a lot about the band. I am looking forward to that. I know I am the one to blame for all the weight gain but you know there are a lot of factors that made me gain weight. Like miscarriages, depression and so on so I look at it as a second chance to make my life better and to be able to move around more without hurting my back or my knees. That alone makes me look forward to it. I hope you will feel better about it.

How Much Is Your Lap Band Surgery Co-pay???
Well, I have BCBS of Illinois and they are asking for $1600 co-pay but the surgeon has a deposit too of $250. I am wondering what kind of co-pays other people had to pay with insurances. It just seems like a lot even though they put me on a payment plan I had to pay $450 to the hospital because of my insurance and $250 deposit to my surgeon, so I am up to $700 already.
-
How long is the lap band process?
2 months for me ( BCBS ) The longest part was waiting for my insurance to approve it. Then someone canceled their day of the surgery and they fit me in. Sooo, Oct 6th for me. Good Luck!

Newbie with LOTS of questions. You've been warned :)
take your insurance card and call toll free number. Then ask them if you have beriatric surgery exclusion. If you do there is nothing you can do. If you dont have an exclusion you should connect with your hospitals finance department and they will tell you what your insurance requires. It all depends on your insurance requirements. Mine made me go to psychological evaluation, and to get a referral from my doctor saying that I would be a good candidate, then they faxed all the oaoerwork straight to the hospital and hospital submitted the papers to the insurance company. ( But first you have to call your hospital of choice ( the one you went to a seminar at/ or any other - they accepted me even though I went to another hospitals seminar ) and then they will refer you to a financial department where you will give all your insurance information ) Soooo... Good luck!

October 2010 Bandsters!!
Hey people! I am banded October the 6th... 10 more days. I am so excited. Already had my GI and pre op tests and now I am just a sitting duck. VAViv - GI is pretty simple - the liquid they make you drink is like no taste liquid yogurt ( Barium ) It is a little bit minty. I asked if I could take some home - they didn't think so... Anyway, add me as your friend - I would love to share my experiences with you and hear all about it from you... Add me!

Surgery scheduled January 14th! Having a hard time quitting smoking!!
I am so scared. I went to one hospital to have a seminar and they said that they would give me a blood test and that you have to quit 3 months before the procedure. This hospital where I am having my surgery ( in 10 days, October the 6th ) they asked me at the pre op meeting - I said I quit 4 months a go and now it is only occasionally, I am afraid I get a call from the hospital any day saying that my surgery will be postponed. They said nothing about the nicotine test before the surgery but hey... what if I chew nicotine gum??? I need to quit and I know it. I am sorry for myself. I am stressed just thinking about having only 10 days before the surgery AND quitting.:crying:
