  1. Awwww....yes, size does matter!!! I thought my piece of steak was small enough....come to find out...after about 15 minutes of stuck pain, I actually threw up (this was a first time for me). I have had food stuck many times....but throwing up was a first. And I got to see what was stuck....I obviously did not chew well enough, piece of steak came up fairly whole. Oh the things we must learn ) So, I past up my steak and mashed potatoes tonight and had a peanut butter sandwich....
  2. I have been banded almost 3 months...No regrets whatsoever!! Only one fill...doc put in 4.5 cc in my band. I have had some trouble eating big bites and not chewing well....stuck in between my breasts. But all in all...I am happy!
  3. Liquid tylenol Sugar free popsicles and jello Heating pad Gas x...chewable or melting strips Chewable vitamin, iron, and calcium Protein shakes....
  4. Try it and see....I haven't tried apples, but I eat nectarines. I take that back, one day I had a happy meal at mcd's and ordered the apples instead of fries...they went down ok (I think the skin is on them)....
  5. Thank you Elcee.....I also sent another email to my surgeon's nurse, she will be calling me today or tomorrow to talk about it a little more in detail. As of now, I think I will stick with 5-600 calories/day.....What I have a hard time understanding is that when we reach restriction and can only eat 1/2 cup of food per meal....how many calories would that be....not 1200!! It is to my understanding that we want to reach restriction....and then the weight will start coming off!! Still confused...lol:wink2:
  6. It sounds to me that the pork was okay for you....you just took one bite too many!! That is why your last bite came back up. I was warned that you will know when you eat one bite too many! Otherwise, I think that you would not have been able to eat any of it....
  7. Idk...whether it is proven or not....I increased my calories to about 8-900 in the past 2 days instead of 5-600/day. And I got onto scale today and I have gained 3#. I should have just stayed at the 5-600/day and been at a plateau instead of a gain. But this is what I am not understanding about the band!! I am not hungry in between meals, I eat my protein first and then my fruit/vegs, I do not snack in between meals, I try to walk about 20-30 minutes everyday....why am I not losing weight?? My first fill was 4.5cc.....do you think I need another fill?? But if I get another fill will I be in starvation mode if I am still eating 600 calories a day?? Confusing for me!!! It is no wonder I hated dieting.....
  8. Well here is what I don't understand.....I am told to eat 4 oz a meal; 2 oz protein, 2 oz carbs....3-4 meals per day. I have been doing just that....I am only consuming about 600 calories a day. Yesterday I sent my nurse an email and asked her why I am not losing weight....she says, "This might sound strange....but you need to eat more, you need around 1200 calories a day." So to me....the lapband is a catch 22....you can only eat so much per meal, but in order to get in all the calories, you need to eat more...plus watch your fat and carb intake....So confusing!!!!
  9. I thought that I had no co-morbidities....but in my letter of medical necessity he included.....urinary incontinence, intertrigo, knee arthritis, low back pain, foot pain and borderline hyper tension. If you tell your doctor that you have some pain due to obesity....he should include it in your letter. But for me, I had no serious morbidities, but these co-morbidities still count!!
  10. I had no pre op diet....and my BMI was over 40!! I lost 18# in 7 days post op on clear liquids!!
  11. Do a google search on the internet for example letters....but yes your primary care physician should be doing the letter, Mine did!! Make sure your doctor lists all co-morbidities in the letter.
  12. I have been doing alot around the house this past week...moving furniture and painting. My port area is also sore and sensitive. I am thinking nothing is wrong, the pain has subsided a lot now that I am done with my chores around house. I would just take it easy for a few days!
  13. I had my first fill on July 23. I was to restart my food stages all over again starting with clear liquids, 5 days for each phase. It was well worth it...(being on clear liquids). I had also hit a plateau and after 5 days of liquids, I had lost another 14 lbs. So your fill plus being on liquids, should help your plateau. Good luck!!
  14. I was allowed to drink V8 (low sodium) and 1% milk. 8-11oz.
  15. Ask your doctor for a fill.....
  16. I am a little curious....did your surgeon give you a fill when you initially had surgery?? My surgeon gave me a slight fill, but I never had any problems. Also, since your surgeon ran some tests on you to see if there were problems with the band, is he at all concerned about your symptoms?? I would find out if there is saline in your band, that's what it sounds like to me...that your band is too tight! You should not be in pain like that...Also....word of advice....my surgeon has told me numerous times, that I need to stop believing everything I read on the internet!! Don't let it all discourage you to the point that you want to remove your band because something happened to someone else.... Good luck and let us know what happens!!:blushing:
  17. It took me about a week before I felt like going back on the computer. For the gas pains, try using a heating pad, it really helped for me. You should feel better before school starts up again. I also work for a school district, so I had my surgery the first day after school ended, before summer...Good luck to you and your husband!
  18. Definitely call doctor in the morning. Until then I would only drink clear liquids and try some gas x strips that melt on your tongue. Good luck! Haven't had that feeling yet, so not sure what other advice to give you...sorry
  19. I think it could be normal, my surgeon put a little tiny fill in my band during surgery because it was too loose. I did not feel any hunger until I hit solids (about 5 weeks after surgery). I think you will be okay!! Good luck
  20. I don't know for sure if you did any damage to your band. But part of your stomach is wrapped around the band and there are stitches down there. So you need to let yourself heal completely before eating solids.....It is so important to follow your surgeons guidelines when it comes to food.
  21. Good luck to you!! It sounds like you will get approval. I also had no co-morbidities but I did have a BMI over 40. I was approved in about a week. I currently have 2 insurances, my out of pocket was $176....
  22. S9,999 in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
  23. That's funny....my doctor said poached, boiled or scrambled, but never fried!! It is just amazing how different all the surgeons are....
  24. Okay....I think that I recently said that after a fill I have to restart all my food phases...5 days each. So I also had a fill, my first one...4.5cc as of this morning I have lost 13# since Friday....I am not complaining about that part...only the part that Sometimes I am sooooo hungry!! I start full liquids tomorrow:mad2:
  25. I chewed gum a few days after surgery....anything to get my mind off of food. I don't know about tic-tacs. And yes the diarrhea....very normal. If you are only on liquid stage then it comes out liquid, mine lasted about 2 days. I just had a fill on Friday, and I have to restart all my food stages (5 days each) UGGHHH.....and I forgot about the liquid stage....had a little bit of diarrhea yesterday. Good luck to you....I have never had those protein drinks, but my surgeon said any protein as long as it had under 10 gm of carbs.
