  1. Well tomorrow i start my liquid preop diet. I am nervous b/c i want to do good but so excited b/c that means its almost here!!!! My surgery is scheduled for Jan 24th. i am having so many emotions. My diet is all liquid with raw veggies for 2 weeks!!!! Im not sure if I can do this but I will try. I cannot wait to start this journey and my goal is to be at goal for Xmas 2011 b/c me and my sister's family are going to Mexico!!!! I have not worn a swimsuit since I was 13 and i am 23. Ive always been overweight but this yr I reached 306 and I knew i had to change. So wish me luck. i will probably be on here a lot more for support . Nicole
  2. Wow. I start mine on Mon. Its 2 weeks. Guidelines are: 4 protien shakes a day 64 oz Fluid sf popsicles fatr free broth sf oatmeal raw veggies sf Jello sf pudding
  3. I get mine on the 24th!!!!! So nervous. I have a 2 week preop diet so Im a little worried about that.
  4. Me too! Congrats on your weight loss!!! I only needed a 3 month diet but it has turned into 6 months with all the extra appt and hoops I had to jump through. I am glad I have the knowledge and am prepared but I feel it needs to be done yesterday. I have bc/bs IL and they said it takes 14 days.
  5. I have been on this journey since june. i am 306 and my goal is 150. I have completed all the requirements for insurance and team approval. So now they are just waiting for insurance approval. I am so happy and nervous and impatient!! I know this is the right choice and I have come so far. I just hope it happens SOON!!! I am ready to get healthy!!!
  6. I really wish I can find a guy like that one day!!!!!!
  7. I was just wondering if you had laparscopic or open surgery for your gallbladder? I had mine out in Jan and it was outpatient and I was good in 3 days. 2 weeks seems like a long time. And if I had to be out 6 weeks I would go stir crazy!! lol
  8. I am definately going to try this. Would it be terrible to roll it in low fat tortilla though? I have to have some kind of carbs just not that much.
  9. I have BC/BS IL and they put in their clause that they count your starting weight as the BMI requirement. So if you started at 310 and get down to 250 they will approve you because you were 310. I had the same fear b/c I also heard about this on here.
  10. Good luck!! And please keep us updated!!
  11. Well yesterday I had my first visit with the dietician and the psychologst. Surgeon had to be rescheduled due to an emergency. The dietician said just continue doing what I'm doing but try to balance my plate out at dinner so I am not so hungry at night and to eat a more substantial snack in the afternoon so I don't overeat at dinner. She said that she thinks the sleeve would be a good fit for me. That was great b/c how my surgeon works is that you have to have everyone on the teams approval to even be considered for surgery. Not sure if that is common practice or not. I was nervous about the psychologist b/c I do have a very complicated and dramatic past but have changed a lot over the last 4 years. I laughed b/c she looked at me and asked how old I was. I replied 23 and she said that if I could handle all that in only 23 years then I could definately handle surgery. But she does think I could benefit from a mindful eating class because of my emotional eating. There are 4 classes over the course of 6 weeks. Has anyone ever heard or participated in one of these before? I am excited b/c I feel like I am actually getting everything done rather quickly. I am very much a list kind of person. And I love to check of these appts. I have so little control over this right now that I feel like that gives some back. I have my surgical consultation and PT appt. on sept 10th. I want this so much I can taste it and feel like over this last week I have really become more committed to changing my lifestyle. I am also trying to work on the small bites and no fluids with meals but this is where I am hitting a wall. Any advice? I want to be prepared so I do not fail. That's pretty much it. Glad to be gitting r done!!!
  12. Thank you both for the great advice. I do try to plan my meals out. I usually have a granola bar and yogurt for breakfast, a lean cuisine or smart one and a sugar free pudding for lunch, and two healthy snacks one at 10 and one at 3. Dinner seems to be the problem. I plan a healthy meal but end up overeating so it doesn't even matter how healthy it was b/c I end up having 3-4 servings. My main problems are eating out and portion control in the evening. @laylasmonjo - I bought the womens Once a Day vitamin but everytime I take it I throw up if I don't eat something IMMEDIATELY after. I mean like take it and then shove something else down there before it comes up. I guess I just have a really sensitive gag reflex. I will try to see if I can find something that goes down better. My other thing is that it is just me and my son so we have a lot left over and it usually gets wasted if I don't eat it. Thank you for the support. @tdov1 - I loved my crockpot but mine caught fire and charred the wires. lol! I had it on the stove and turned on the wrong burner. I need to get a new one. I tried WW too and it worked very well for me but I don't have the money right now and keeping track of the points was really time consuming. Thanks for your great advice.

  14. Hi everyone. My name is Nicole. I am on month 2 of my medically supervised diet and not doing so well. I seem to want to eat everything in sight. I feel like I'm sabatoging myself. I want this surgery more than anything but I love food. I am always hungry. My insurance only requires 3 months so I want to prove that I can stick to the diet. I have my dietician and psychologist and surgeon appt. next Thursday. My PCP just put me on a 1600-1800 calorie diet along with exercise. Does anyone have any tips? One of my problems is that I am a single mom and work full time with no support. When I get home I am exhausted and go for the convienence foods. Please any advice would be great!! Thanks!
  15. Hi! I am 22, 5' 5'' and have a BMI of 50. I am just starting the whole process and hope to be banded in Oct if everything goes right.
  16. Thank you both for the the great advice. I am pretty much settled on the sleeve. My insurance (bcbs IL) just started covering it. I am still scared about anything happening to me and leaving my son w/o a mother. But I feel like if I keep going down this path he will lose me anyway. I have no energy to play with him and that breaks my heart. I want to help him learn and explore the world but I barely feel like leaving the house most days. I want to set a good example and be there for him for a long time to come. He is my entire reason for living. The time off is not something I like but my boss is pretty understanding ( I am a nurse but it's more paperwork than anything) so I think I can manage. I am really excited and can't wait. I have never been thin so I can't even imagine how I will look or feel when I lose the weight but it has to be better than this. Has anyone known or have you lost over 150 lbs with the sleeve? How long did it take?
  17. Ok so I was 100% sure I wanted the Lapband. I've been doing research for about 6 months and it made the most sense for me. I am a single mom of a 2 1/2 year old boy (and I mean SINGLE ! No man at all and no family except my sister who will only babysit once in a blue moon) So if anything happens to me I have little support. But I went to my seminar yesterday and learned about the sleeve. It is less drastic than the bypass but still body altering. And the woman made it sound like there was very little chance to loose 100+ pounds with the band. I am 310 and my goal weight is 150-160 depending on where I feel confortable. Now I know that wls is just a tool and I have to change my lifestyle and I am ready to do that. But I hesitate to spend so much money on the band and not lose my excess weight. But I am not sure how I will manage with the time off work with the sleeve. And the thought of something so permanant scares the shit out of me. I would love to hear from people who changed from lapband to sleeve or just people who have had the sleeve especially single mothers. I am just so confused and want to do the right thing. Thanks! Nicole

  19. Hi All!! I'm so excited b/c I just found out that my insurance only requires a 3 month supervised diet rather than the 6 month one that I thought. 3 months seems a lot less daunting! I know its gonna be tough but I can do it. I got this baby!!
  20. Thanks guys!! That website is very helpful. Do u guys have a fav protein mix/powder that you can recommend?
  21. If you feel that you are ready to date than I would say go for it. As long as you are upfront (If the relationship gets serious) about the Lapband I don't see how that would be changing the rules. I am kind of in the same boat you are. I am a single mom of a 2 1/2 year old boy. I have not dated since his father and that was before I even knew I was pregnant, so about 3 years.I know I am not ready but that is what's right for you.
  22. Hi All!! I am pre-band but I had question about protein. I know that it is a very important dietary need with the band and I was just wondering how to measure protein. How do u know how many grams of protein are in a certain piece of meat? I have always been bad at weighing and measuring food. Also what is the daily recommended protein intake for a banded person? Thanks!!!
  23. I weigh 300 lbs and I too have this problem. I am hoping losing the weight will help.
  24. Polish and Irish....But my mom was adopted so I could be anything else.
