Acid rebound and kicking ppi's
For those of you wanting to kick your ppi I will share my experience with rebound. I never had a day of acid or heartburn pre-surgery so I was really hoping that my body had a good regulatory system in this department and would sort itself out once off ppi's. I stayed on them for 5 weeks per my doc then quit cold trukey. Day 1 No issues :tongue_smilie: Day 2 :001_rolleyes: a little uncomfortable but managable Day 3 :flame:Hell on earth. :mad5: Lots of gaviscon :target:(tums and rolaids cause rebound) difficulty eating... mostly just drank creamy Protein Day 4 :ack2: uncomfortable but better than day 3. Appetite returned by evening meal (my tiny sleeve appetite):hungry: Used gaviscone once Day 5 I can feel it.... but its almost gone. Day 6 To be continued.......... I'm hoping by tomorrow it will be gone.

Crazy?????
Well I really hope you can make it. I had a pretty easy recovery but I was still pretty weak and sore on day 3. You figure though.... a lot of us that go to Mexico fly home on day 3 or 4. If you have somebody drive you there and it's not too long it could be doable. good luck

I'm scared to tell anyone I'm doing this
Hey rollermom I saw your june 5 date... congrats!!!! I wasn't going to tell anyone at first. I just didn't want anyone to know. I have still not told my family.... I just don't need the lectures.... but I did end up telling some of my close friends. It was nice having some people around to check on me and for me to talk about my experience to. Depending on how often you see your BF it may be kinda difficult to explain why you can only have Clear liquids or mushies. Also.... we make some kinda weird noises after.... stomach gurgling etc. Congrats again Keep us posted

Dreaming about Protein?
I go through the same thing. Failure is ingrained in us professional dieters. You know I had that horrible stall.... I kept wondering if I was going to be some kind of medical marvel.... the only person in history who can fail with a sleeve. I can tell the stall is broken by the way my clothes are fitting..... but I'm not going to weigh cuz it makes me crazy. Your doing great.... try not to be so hard on yourself. I know your just post op so its important to follow the rules... but once your all healed, the sleeve is all about normal living and moderation. That includes good days and bad and forgiving ourselves. Take care Stacey

hunger on clears
I would consider beef broth a clear. Also....Pre-op I NEVER drank fruit juice. All that sugar and those carbs !!! Yikes. Post op I felt horrible on clears so added some organic apple juice and organic blueberry juice. The carbs and sugar (no sugar added but the fruit has natural sugar) really helped me feel better. I cut them out again as soon as I was on full liquids.

Acid Reducers.
My doc said I could go ahead and try now.... but if it gets too bad I'll go back on the ppi's.... dont want to mess up my new sleeve (I love it). Yesterday was day two and it was pretty rough. I took some gaviscon before bed and today I feel fine.... I haven't eaten yet so we'll see. If I cankick the ppi's I will be able to say that there is absolutly NOTHING I don't love about my sleeve!!!!!!

How long did you leave your stitches in?
Well... I don't know the answer to your question but it does seem like other posters have gone more than 10 days. I had glue and it was in place for about 20 days. Also... there is another poster who took hers out at 10 as directed and her incisions came open. I don't think extending it a couple of days would hurt. I'm no doctor though..... just my thoughts

5days out & eating Hard food, is it to fast?
About 1 week post op I had a nighttime dream:sleep: that I was eating a HUGE bowl of fruit loops. It was cold and sweet I and was shoveling it in. I got a little distracted and looked away. When I looked back my bowl contained three grains of rice.

Post Op Clears to full liquids
I filled my water bottle with Injury flavorless protein and crystol light 2x a day. That was an automatic 40 grams consumed with my water (I needed the crystal light to cover the "non taste" of the protein).... I also added a little benefiber to each drink.

Acid Reducers.
I only had to take ppi's for 5 weeks. I'm on day 2 without and have quite a bit of burning. I got some gavison (thanks for the tip oregondaisy) because I understand that tums and rolaids can cause rebound (thanks again oregondaisy). I'm going to go 5 days and if its not any better I will go back on my ppi. Its just that they keep you from absorbing some stuff and your body does need a little acid... plus I don't want to take meds forever. We'll see how it goes. Its pretty common for people to have to take a ppi post op. Its worth asking your doc.

First try of FULL liquids
Its pretty normal to be able to get in a lot of runny stuff. Its fine at first because the idea is just to get something.... anything in you. Thats why once on solids we have to avoide sliders and mushies.... stick with lean meats and veggies and fruits.... in that order. For now its fine.... give your body what it needs to heal. You'll have plenty of restriction when you hit solids. Stacey

Full liquid stage--day 3-13 post-op
when I felt like I just had to have more I drank Glucose control boost. Regular Boost and Ensure have losts of sugar but the glucose control has 4 grms. It was pretty satisfying when my body started demanding more nourishment

Fiber intake after surgery?
I am a fiber baby too. When I was a kid I was hospitalized several times for severe constipation resulting in high fever and vomiting. I have always eaten lots and lots of fiber. My doc told me to avoid stuff like bran fiber...metamucil...fiber one etc for the first 5 weeks. After that he said I should be fine eating whatever.... but until then I have been drinking copious amounts of benefiber which he said is great (as with all fiber you have to have lots of water). Hope thats helpful stacey
