  1. Break your exercise up throughout the day. One thing I've learned so far is that there is NO excuse for not exercising. Though sometimes I have to push myself, I know exercise is a must. Try walking/running your treadmill each day. If you have small handweights, walk your treadmill while using them. You can YouTube plenty of quick work-out videos that you can try, or even small exercises you can do. Sit-ups, pushups, crunches, different arm lifts with your dumbbells...there's a lot you can do. I know of a few 10-minute work out vids. Some may be on YouTube. Aim for 30 minutes a day, and increase it if you have time. Good luck!
  2. Congrats! It all does really start to hit home when you're going through all that. I remember the weeks flying and surgery coming up so quick. Good luck on your journey
  3. You're hungry again because the swelling has gone down. It's pretty common. Until your fill you're gonna have to do it on your own. Willpower and really just the power to walk away from food and to keep yourself from grazing. Keep yourself busy. Drink your water/protein shakes that will fill you up.
  4. I had surgery at 7:45 and left that night. I would NOT have stayed there. I hate hospitals. It's so uncomfortable. It felt nice to just be home after such a long day. Though some people stay if they are in a lot of pain and can be given pain meds through the IV. Some doctors require you to be able to walk/drink before you can be discharged. Ask your insurance company/doctor and they'll let you know what's best. My doctor originally wanted me to stay but I was up and walking in no time.
  5. It can bother your port yes..but your lapband is nowhere near your waist. So, port yes, but the band itself? No.
  6. Congrats and wow!!! You look awesome. You're definitely a Bandster success. I can only hope to look as good as you in a year!
  7. I think it varies for everyone. Try to mix up your calories and see what gets the scale moving. I usually eat around 400-700 calories a day, though I've hit 900+ before. As for the "starvation mode," I can't say I believe it. My doctor said no one, especially with the band, needs to eat above 1000 calories a day. I don't eat when I'm not hungry, as that isn't really healthy to me. I did that without the band. I eat 3 meals a day, and sometimes a snack if I need it, which is rare. My food usually holds me over for 3-4 hours, sometimes more. I can't see myself eating above 1000 calories a day, especially when my food intake is limited to ONE cup of food and I watch my carbs religiously now. I guess some can. Either way, find an amount that works for you. Good luck!
  8. Any exercise is good. I started out walking. My surgeon said wait until 6 weeks post-op to do heavy exercising or lifting. Now I'm doing the Slim in 6 series and loving it! Moving onto P90 next. Definitely ask your surgeon, and don't push yourself. Do exercise that makes you feel comfortable, but if it hurts, stop. Walking is always good! As long as you're getting your heart-rate up.
  9. What was the date of your surgery? May 10, 2010 How healthy did you/do you eat? Pretty healthy. I count my carbs, fats, and calories each day. Protein of course too. Before I'd skip breakfast/lunch and just binge at dinnertime. How much do you exercise? At least 45 minutes a day. How much have you lost? Almost 50lbs. Are you happy with your results? Estatic! 50lbs gone in 3 months and no fill. I couldn't be more happy! Hopefully the trend continues.
  10. Congrats and good luck!!! You'll do great. Being anxious is normal. Be sure to get your fluids in and rest. Walk when you can too.
  11. Take some Gas-X and rest. It gets better! Congrats on being banded.
  12. Congrats on your decision and good luck! You'll do awesome and sounds like you have a great supportive family to help you along.
  13. It will definitely go away, give it some time. I'm about 2+ months out and if I move the wrong way I still get a "reminder" that my port is there. It gets better though!
  14. Walking really isn't enough exercise. Your metabolism slows down. Try adding in weights or doing some sort of exercise video. I stalled when I was just walking, picked up my exercise, and started losing again. Also mess around with your calories. A variety is good.
  15. Congrats on your weight-loss so far. Please remember that you had surgery about a month ago and that your body is healing. Mostly everyone loses a lot of weight in the beginning, but it will slow down. Give yourself time to heal and try to stay off the scale. If you're cleared for exercise, go do some walking. Switch up your calories if you can. The first 6 weeks is really about healing. Your weight will go up and down plenty of times, so, not to be blunt but, get used to it. It's all part of the journey.
  16. Ive been averaging about 500-700 calories a day, usually more on the low side. I haven't had more than 20 calories a day in weeks now.
  17. A week or so. Your body is healing. Take your pain meds if you need them and rest.
  18. I wouldn't recommend P90x either..that's even more advanced than Insanity. I've been doing the Slim in 6 series and it's been going well. After this I plan to do the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred with (possibly) ChaLean added into it. For starters I'd recommend Slim in 6. Master that and then move on. I plan to do p90, and then possibly insanity, but this will be after I've started to lose more weight.
  19. We're kind of around the same stats so good luck if you do decide to go with Lapband! For one, most insurance companies require a BMI of 40 or a BMI of 35 with two comorbidies. Since you're so close to 40, maybe it'd be beneficial to gain a pound? That sounds silly but unless you have comorbidies, you may have problems. You may want to look in the California state forum to find people who have been banded in LA.
  20. You have to decide which one is best for you. Not every WLS is right for one person. Some do better with the band, some fail, but the same goes for all types of WLS. Take a look at the pros and cons of both surgeries, and decide which one really suits you best. No one can give you the answer but you, though talking to a WLS may help you to decide.
  21. Definitely needs an unfill. Even a small one can really help.
  22. Try going to bariatriceating.com They have good recipes there to try for all stages.
  23. You're not gonna have restriction after one fill. It's gonna take a few probably to get to where you want to be. If you can eat as much as you want, you have to learn to stop yourself; self control. Go get another fill and restriction will come soon. I've only had surgery 2 months ago, but no fill and 45lbs gone. It works different for everyone.
  24. First post-op appt. the surgeon usually weighs you, asks you how you feel, looks at your incisions, etc. He'll probably feel your port just to make sure it's where it needs to be. It's painless really. No fear of becoming anorexic. I'm not depriving myself of food, nor does gaining a pound here or there bother me. I'm learning how to eat RIGHT, not how to deprive myself of things. If you are seriously worried about it, I'd go to a doctor because it can happen. Not sure why you aren't sleeping. Maybe you just can't get comfortable? Ask your doctor.
  25. I think how much you lose and how quickly really depends on how determined you are to lose the weight. For many it comes off easily during the pre-op stage, and sometimes right after surgery. But that does slow down, so be prepared for that. I'm 19 and I've been banded for 2 months, and I've lost 45lbs, about 15 pre-op I believe. In any case, the weight loss is in your court. Get your fills (IF necessary), eat right, exercise, and the scale will show you what you want to see.
