  1. 1. Is there pain after the surgery? And if so, what kind? How long did it last? Yes there is some pain, but it's not nearly as bad as you'd think. The doctor gives you pain meds to take home and they really help. After about day 3 I felt a lot better. 2. How long do you have to stay in the hospital after surgery? I had to stay a few hours. Some people opt to stay overnight but..no thanks. I preferred to be home. 3. Is there a specific diet before/after surgery? Yes, but this varies. Many times you have to do a 1-2 week long liquid diet to help shrink the liver. I lost a lot of weigh during this time. It's hard but you get used to it. 4. Do I have to slim down to a certain weight before I can get it? I don't think so but you'll want to check with a surgeon. I know mine wouldnt operate on a patient over a certain weight because it's an added risk. 5. I know you eat less, a lot less, do you eat more smaller meals or just 3 really small meals? I eat 3 small, healthy, high Protein meals a day. 6. If really small meals, is there enough food for your body to like have energy? Yes. That is never anything to worry about. 7. Should I worry about complications with my weight? I don't think so. 8. How many people die of complications every year? And how many people get the surgery every year? There have been a few deaths. I know of 3. Two were from complete negligence of the patient. 9. What kinda of diet are you on currently? None. I eat small healthy meals. Some people do opt to do low cal/low carb diets though. 10. I cannot stick to diets, will I be told to TRY dieting before the surgery? You'll probably have to do a pre-op diet. The word cannot really needs to be out of your personal diet for this surgery to work for you. 11. What happens on the day of the surgery? You go in, have surgery, and get to go home. You're hooked up to an IV, you meet your surgeon, sign a few forms, meet your anesthesialogist and you're off to the surgery room. 12. Side effects? None. 13. Problems you had? None at all. 14. Did you ever consider not getting it because of the extra skin? Yes, of course. But I realize that plastic surgery is always an option, and I'd really have extra skin over rolls of fat everywhere. Plus, the younger you are, the higher possibility that your skin will shrink back somewhat. 15. How steady of a weight loss can one expect? It varies from person to person. I've been told 1-2 pounds a week. I'm a little shy of being a month out and I've been losing 7lbs a week. But I'm sure this will slow down greatly. 16. Did family members actions change after you got the surgery? Not much. My mom is eating a lot less and a lot healthier. She has even lost too but she is not obese by any means. 17. Your worries before you had the surgery? What about after? I was worried it would not work. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to do it. However, it's obvious that I can and anyone can. You just have to be willing to change how and sometimes what you eat. It's a new lfiestyle, but it's a healthy one that I'm learning to truly enjoy.
  2. Congrats!! I'm so close too, and only a month out  Dreading the day the weight-loss slows, but I'm ready for it.
  3. Congrats!! No fill for me until June 21, but I may not need it. We will see!
  4. I try to stay under 50 a day, but it's different for each person. Low carb diets are like 20-30 carbs a day.
  5. Good luck tomorrow! You'll do awesome.
  6. I do it online at myfitnesspal.com just to help make sure I'm getting all my protein in. My dr/nutritionist want me to journal what I eat when I get to normal foods (5 days woo) just to make sure I'm eating good stuff. I doubt it will be a life-long thing though.
  7. A day, but it really depends on your insurance type.
  8. Your doctor will probably have you do a pre-op liquid diet to shrink your liver. It's probably best to talk with him/her if you're worried. But yes, surgeries have been cancelled due to an oversized liver.
  9. It may fade, but it won't go away completely. It depends on your genes, weight, skin-type, etc. There are creams and lotions that may help, but nothing is 100% proven.
  10. I believe the person above me meant Kelo-cote. That's what I'm using. I think it's too early to tell results, but I've heard it's a great product. A little expensive, but worth it.
  11. Awww  My cell is messed up.
  12. 19. Had my surgery on 5/10.
  13. I have under 100lbs to lose too! Started out needing to lose 125lbs and I'm only about a month out. Congrats to everyone :cursing:
  14. It's really important to remember that your body is healing. The next few weeks your weight will go up and down, but it should not be your main focus. Eat the right amount of food you're supposed to and in time the scale will move. You need to ensure that you're getting in the right nutrition to help your body heal properly. Honestly, you shouldn't be worried about your weight now. You're not gonna lose at the same pace you did on your pre-op diet, think about it. Trust me, you aren't gaining. You may be holding onto Water. There's so many things that can cause the scale to say things you don't want a few weeks after surgery. Remember your body just underwent something very serious, so it will need time. I'm getting close to a month post-op and the scale still goes up and down on me. Give your body a chance to fully heal, and don't depend on the scale. You will see it move down in time.
  15. Congrats! Have fun on the beach :cursing:
  16. Congrats!! Hopefully the scale keeps on moving down!
  17. I forgot to say I'm joining in! So, hello everyone and good luck  No fills for me yet, only 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery and my hunger pains are back with a vengeance, but the weight is coming off still. Hoping to lose 15lbs.
  18. My doctor said 6-weeks. However he also said if I continue to lose at the rate I am (about 3lbs a week) I won't need one.
  19. Good luck! As the others said, walk walk walk and sip sip sip your water. Having Gas-X near by never hurts either! Congrats on your surgery.
  20. I think 6 weeks post-op you will be fine. I am only 2 weeks and a few days post-op and I feel great. Yes certain things do still hurt a little, but definitely not as bad as it did. Bending over and moving the wrong way are my main issues. I'd be careful with the hiking. Don't overdo yourself. But, it's definitely best to ask your surgeon, though I think you'll be fine. Good luck and have fun on your trip!!
  21. I was told to try to eat 1/4 of a cup of food and if I was still hungry to eat more. I started with 1 cup of food per meal, no snacks, but I've moved myself down to 3/4 cup, no snacks. Maybe you should call your dietician and ask just to be sure.
  22. Good luck and congrats!
  23. The questions vary I'm sure but many times it's pretty simple things: How long have you been overweight? Do you know why? Have you ever had an eating disorder? Any mental disorders? Does your family and close friends support your decision? Why do you want Lapband? Are you willing to accept the changes and adhere to the Lapband rules? Etc, etc. They just want to be sure you are mentally and emotionally ready for a big change in your lifestyle and that you have a support system helping you along the way. I was worried about mine but it turned out to be a breeze. Just be honest and you'll be fine.
  24. Hope you start to feel better! My dr. said to use those anti-nausea pills if I ever get sick like that.
