Surprise! I'm skinny and had lap band surgery.... 6 months ago
I've had some family members ask why? and of course the day after surgery I had my grandmother ask if it was worth it?... um...how the hell do I know the day after surgery?! but I tell them it's my decision for my health. Most of the people who have not understood never have had a weight problem in their lives so they don't understand. Be strong in your decision and just tell them I am just giving you a heads up in case you need to know.

Back to work - first night back - had to go home :(
I have no suggestions since I'm in pain also and it's been since the 13th. I am amazed that some people didn't have pain and were able to go back to work so fast. I go to my doctor tomorrow and I'm telling him I can't go back to work yet. I'm a CNA at a hospital on nights and I know I won't make it though a night yet. I hope you get comfortable ... is there anyway of taking more time out?

Pain!
I've been trying to sleep in bed the past two nights but I'm just so uncomfortable. I am a stomach sleeper so sleeping on my back sucks! I have a problem too with my back and now that's causing me pain no matter how I sit, stand and lie. ugh! I do feel better everyday... it's uncomfortable. I go to the doctor Wednesday for a follow up and I'm hoping that he says everything is healing well.

Friday Weigh Ins
I have to figure out that weight tracker soon. lol But I was banded 11/12/09 and I didn't weigh myself prior to surgery so I'm going by my last weight on the scale which was 236... today I'm 230 so I've lost 6 lbs in the first week! I'm so excited!

Less then 24 hrs to band
Hope all went well and your healing nicely. Let us know how your doing.

Pain!
my doctor is very precise. day 1-7 Clear liquids... day 8-14 full liquids... then for 2 weeks pureed... and for the final two weeks mushes. I started full liquids today and it includes cream of wheat and yogurts so I'm good.

Does anyone wear a Medical Alert Bracelet??
my doctor gave me a card of some sort stating I have a band in my stomach and it has his emergency number on it.

7 years, lost 120, got rebanded!
Oh my god.. I actually started crying after reading this. I'm 7 days post op and still in pain and I have everyone asking me if it's worth it and you just said YES! I honestly don't know if I could go through this surgery a second time though. I have been having one hell of a time with pain and the port area being uncomfortable but it's getting better every day. Thank you so much for this post and you look wonderful! :scared2:

Pain!
I have constant "uncomfortableness" (I guess now) on my left side under my boob... I believe it's the port and it feels alien. I didn't really have a lot of gas pain and that was what I expected from a previous surgery using gas. I had back pain and side pain and of course my stomach hurt like hell. Definitely "better" today and I'm starting my full liquid week so I'm enjoying my first bowl of cream of wheat.

Pain!
I haven't even slept in a bed yet. I'm still sleeping in the recliner. I made the mistake of sneezing yesterday! Oh brother did that hurt!!!!
-
Pain!
I'm a little better today too. I'm still hurting or I should say uncomfortable. I can't take a deep breath and I feel like I have an alien in me! lol But I work as a CNA and I"m not going back to work till I can. I have to do a lot of bending and stretching and pulling and whatever the night brings. I go back to the doctor next Wednesday for my follow up so I"ll see. Thank you for all the comments and suggestions. Oh and the heating pad feels good too.

I'm so worried I am going to get sick!
I had my surgery on the 13th and had to stay overnight in the hospital. I had a hard time waking up and was in a lot of pain. I am much better today and I'm not a wimp with pain so I was very surprised by this. I told my doctor while I was in the hospital that this had better make me skinny! lol As far as the flu shots goes I declined it at work, I'm a Cna in a hospital. However, while reading my discharge papers they have me the flue and pnemonia shot while I was there. I didn't ask for it or authorize it.

Pain!
I was thinking of a heating pad. I'm so afraid to put anything near it. I'm normally not a wimp. :w00t: It does feel a little better today so I'm going to take one day at a time and see how it goes. thank you

How soon did you return to work?
I just got banded last Thursday and I'm in a lot of pain. I can't imagine going back on the 26th like I'm supposed to.

Pain!
 Got banded on the 13th and had to stay in the hospital overnight. I have been having pain like I've never felt before. It's not gas pain it's pain on my left side of my stomach. I thin that's the port area? But gawd! I'm on two different pain medications and I'm just tolerating it. How long till it goes away? :tt2:

3 More Days !!!!!!
Me too! I go in Thursday for banding. No pre-op diet from my doctor but I've been trying to behave. I do know I have gained weight since seeing my doctor to schedule my date.. I hope I don't get in trouble. I did ask specifically if I had to do anything pre-op and he said no just NPO after midnight Wednesday. I have to admit I'm very nervous now.... I also have to give myself Lovenox injections for two weeks after surgery twice a day. Good luck to all!:tongue2:

My story
Be positive! you can stay at goal and keep the band in as long as needed...
-
What did you eat week after surgery.
I'm being banded on Thursday and I'm wicked nervous now! My doctor has given me recommendations to be on clear liquids for 1 week, full liquids for 1 week, puree for 2 weeks and then mushies for 2 weeks..... I won't be on a normal diet till December .....

I'm so worried I am going to get sick!
I would suggest washing your hands constantly! I work in a children's hospital and I have many many patients with ILI (Influenza like symptoms) and we also have H1N1 positive patients. Not everyone who has symptoms has the swine strain of the flu. If they don't do a nasal pharangeal swab and send to the CDC for testing it is NOT swine flu. But that being said ... wash your hands. That is really the best thing you can do. I wear a mask going into rooms and I purell constantly. I too am having surgery next week on the 12th and I am concerned about getting sick prior to my date. I agree with you being concerned. This surgery is a long awaited and planned for procedure and you want to get started on the road to recovery and well being so to anyone who can't see that concern too bad. :scared2:

Medication Getting Stuck
my nutritionist told me I would never be able to take whole pills again. she said to crush the pills to take them from now on or get liquid or chewable.

Pumpkin Shake
It depends on which type of protein powder you use and how much soy milk. I believe it's around 25 grams or so with how I make it.

Receiving Fills While On Blood Thinner
I was on coumadin for 6 months for blood clots and a PE but still had to go weekly for blood work. Kinda the same maybe with just a needle going into your skin. I think the surgeon is being cautious and that's a good thing. I actually have to give myself Lovenox injections twice a day for two weeks after my banding to prevent clots because of my prior history. Good luck with your appointment!

Setting a Goal Weight
Well my doctor asked me what I wanted to get down to and I told him 150. I am 5'2 1/2" and 41 years old. My start weight is 232 (give or take) He told me that was fine. I know on my chart I should probably be less but I don't think that's realistic for me. I couldn't tell you when I was down that low.. probably when I was 12! Any direction in the downward direction is good for me.

Starting Pre-op diet Sunday! Who's done it?
I'm gradually starting to cut back.. I got on the scale the other day and was 9 lbs heavier than when I met with my surgeon! My doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet either but I feel that it will give me a head start too. I just had a protein shake for breakfast and will continue with liquid portion of diet till my surgery November 12th! Can't wait
