  5. I have posted about this before but here goes.... I used the Dr Phil method. Accountability. He suggested if you do not do your exercise on Monday , you could not wear makeup on Tuesday. I used no TV until exercise is done. It worked for me. Tuff love.. Now get off your lazy a** edie
  6. I wanted to add my new stage. MAY 07. I feel so happy. I'm not having any trouble with gaining weight. I feared that. I don't really have a relationship with food anymore. I like looking at it. It is pretty. lol. My stomach finally growled the other day. At first after banding I had a tiger in my tank all the time. I have to stop and eat now. I am spending more time outside because I don't get so hot . My dog likes this. edie

  8. My exercise person I meet with once a month at my gym suggested I work harder NOT longer. She suggested 1 lap as quickly as I could then 2 normal laps. . I did this on my daily walking until I got past my longest plateau. 1 month . Yuk. I had 5 plateaus in my 8 month journey. edie
  9. Hi Cathi, I am proud for you. You have fought a big battle. You won. Now you are starting the next battle. I did have some depression. When the lbs starting dropping off , my weight became my comfort. It really did. I felt better about how I looked. How the world perceived me. I knew my food addiction was right out in the open . My tight size 26 jeans told the truth. Now I have been at goal for 3 months and I am still amazed at how I have changed. I am very busy and don't tire like I used to. Being busy with life not my next fix (food) . The excitement, thrill , and the future makes me smile. I can't find the words. I know one worry I had was what if I put it back on? Now 3 months I feel 99% confident that will not happen. I get full. I have to stop and eat. So to sum it up, the high I get from feeling and looking better took the place of my high from food. best wishes, edie

  13. Good for you. Don't let anything stop you. I promise your new body health and mind health is worth ever bit of interest you will pay. edie
  14. Wish I could help you. I would talk you into taking a short slow walk with me. I would take you to the local library and we could look at magazines together. Sometimes our life tests us. I postponed my surgery so I could go on vacation. I didn't want to be banded on vacation. I wish now I would have gone ahead with it. I didn't know any better. Best wishes for a quick date, edie
  15. I haven't had any problem. I really thought I would. If it is a buffet style , I just get a SMALL amount of anything I want and just pick around on it. If it is a meal (like a luncheon I recently went to) I just pick around on it. No one really comments because they are too busy eating. As long as you have food on your plate ...... Now at first when I was banded that was different. I just had on my plate what I could eat. I probably could have put some more on it and it would have not been so noticeable . I could have put some salad or maybe something I really didn't care for. I know this sound wasteful and all those starving children.... One more point I want to make. Your cravings and desire for food changes. I remember the first family dinner I had to go to very soon after getting banded (I'm guessing 3 wks after). I whined to my hubby. How could I go with all that good food. I didn't want to go and told him so. He says well if you eat and get full what is the problem? He was so right. In the first months I did find myself looking pretty hard at food in social situations but now I look at it , get some (band size of course) if I want it and then I swear I dont give it another thought. I love my new relationship with food. I enjoy social situations so much more now. I guess before food bugged me and I would also have in the back of my mind that people with me sure knew why I was so heavy . Like when I worked in a office I would eat 2 doughnuts instead of one like others for example. Hope this helps , edie
  16. I CAN eat rice, pasta and crusty part or toasted bread with no problems. Not a huge amount of course. edie
  17. The growling for me did end up stopping. I was always confused. I always wondered if it was my big stomach or my little stomach? edie
  18. JaMMY, It happened to me. It was so hard!!! I was trying so hard to stick to the guidelines . You sound like you do understand what is going on with your body so I won't go into it . It still doesn't make it any easier. This is what I would do if I was up a few lbs. I would deny deny DENY in my mine. I kept it to myself. I would claim (if anyone asked) my low weight. I would stay off the scales for 3 to 4 days and when I got back on I would be the low weight or lower. I would white lie (lol) because I didn't want to hear ANYTHING negative. I also had 5 plateaus in my 8 month journey. One lasted a whole month. Those still were not as hard as a gain for me. I feel your pain. edie
  19. I had depression . I was depressed about the volume of food I could not eat ever again. When I bought my pair of 18 jeans the depression just went away ...Ha ha edie
  20. Now I "medicate" with activity. Visiting neighbors , friends , shopping (oops) , exercise , cleaning , etc. I used to think I should go see... but never did. good luck edie
  21. Shame on that other mother. Karma is a bitch. edie
  22. Yes your doctor is throwing up a life line. I am so glad you have your financing lined up. I am a self pay too. I went to the seminar in May and had surgery in July 06. I started exercising about 6 weeks before surgery. I could only go 1/2 mile in 35 minutes. I felt stupid and very noticeable but I felt at least I am trying. good luck, edie
  23. I have pretty much lost my appetite too. I know exactly what you mean about something sounding good, looking good and smelling good but when it comes down to eating it ... blah. I would try some different protein drinks. I like carnation instant breakfast. On this site there are hints to add fruit, peanut butter ...My pantry is full of stuff I have bought to entice me. I am just trying to eat what I have . I am worried about you gagging. I never had that problem. I wonder if you should try the very (and I mean small) small meals about every 2 hours program? edie
  24. J2, Yes I always put protein first. I do like my protein bars. edie
  25. Yes it makes you very aware. The heartburn is awful. I would get it from eating too much or too fast. edie
