  1. i'm so excited for you!!! My goal is to start running and hopefully in a year do the MiniMarathon here in Indianapolis. Thanks for the motivation! time to get off my big ol' butt and start somewhere! :-)
  2. i was off for 3 weeks, but my company has paid short term disability for employees who have been with the company for more than 5 years. Theres NO way i could have gone back to work in just a few days. Although i wasn't in a lot of pain or anything, I was EXHAUSTED. I went to church 2 days after surgery and needed a 3 hours nap after sitting up for 2 hours. people can do it, but you might be really tired. just be careful.
  3. I was wondering if anyone has taken adipex or any other type of weight loss pill after being banded and what have been your results? thanks
  4. Thanks for this posting. These are the very things i was talking to my nutritionist about and was saying that they need to be talked about at a support group. It's great to have someone who's out a year and has lost all their weight, but they forget the struggles the first few weeks out. I'm 5 weeks out. She thought that was a great idea and called and asked me if i would be willing to speak at the June support group. I'm super excited!
  5. as long as you're eating the right things and keeping a journal of how much you're eating, then it's the right thing because you're constantly fueling your metabolism. My nutritionist said that's my problem, is that i was only eating once or twice a day with 10 hours or so between meals. She said when you eat like i do (or did - i'm trying), your body goes into starvation mode. she said naturally thin and sucess stories on the band are people who eat 5 or 6 times a day -- eating the right, healthy things. just be sure to make good choices with your Snacks. My only concern is, if you're grazing, when are you getting your liquids in, since we're not supposed to drink for an hour or more after we eat....
  6. I agree with everyone else on here, try not to beat yourself up becuase that will only demotivate you. Does your surgeons office or any other weight loss clinic in your area offer an Emotional Eating class? It might help if you know why you want to overeat. It's a daily struggle and we're all in the same boat or else we wouldn't be on this website! :cool2:
  7. i was banded March 30th and don't have my first fill until May 21st! my nutritionist told me that when i'm hungry to drink a Protein shake... that helps fill you up a lot. Another thing that helps me when i'm hungry is to make protein pudding... scoop of Protein Powder, 8 oz of skim milk and 1/2 packet of sugar free fat free pudding. It's thicker so i get full faster. but if you're hungry, you really need to up your Protein Drink intake. it helps.
  8. i spent the night in the hospital when i had surgery too, but mainly i slept. The biggest obstacle you will have is that you will be tired after sitting for a couple of hours. It will be possible for you to go, just realize that afterwards you will be exhausted... but it will be worth it to see your friend married. You'll be fine! go for it! :-)
  9. i feel and felt the same frustrations as you. I know in theory that 1-2lbs a week is good and in 50 weeks, i'll be estatic if i'm down 50 lbs, i just wish i was on week 30 instead of week 4, but my nutritionist said much of the same things everyone else is saying on here.. starvation mode and the like.. she also told me to weigh myself once a week and measure myself once a week. So on sunday i weighed myself and i was only down about a lb but when i measured my waist, i was down 3 1/2 inches... that was HUGE to me. i'm frustrated along with you, but i also know that i feel better and have only had to take insulin 6 times since surgery instead of 6 times a day! think of it like freshman year in college... feels like you'll never graduate, but after the 4 years and you graduate, you look back and realize how quickly it went. Don't lose heart... keep up the fight and make good choices!
  10. my mom did the same thing.. she didn't have the surgery, but when i finally told her i was having it, i told her that i'm not telling anyone because it's my business... so about 3 weeks later i get an email from a couple of my aunts and a 'get well soon' card in the mail from her husband's mother... i called and was like MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM... .it was supposed to be a secret and asked who else she told and she was like "only a couple people, the girls i have coffee with and the prayer group and a couple family members"... did i mention she has 12 brothers and sisters... but i realized that she loves me and was scared/proud and all those other emotions that crazy parents have for us and just had to laugh.
  11. i hope you guys are all right.... i was banded 3/30 and i'm starting to get discouraged. i feel hungry more now and less satisfied with what is on my "ok to eat" list. the really sad thing is that i struggle with cheating everyday now... at first it was great, i wasn't hungry, didn't even think about food, now i just want to eat a lot of something. i don't have cravings per se, but i just want to eat... i usually don't, but i'm starting to doubt if i'll be successful. did anyone feel this way and how did you 'get over it' or motivate yourself? thanks.
  12. hi everyone... so i had my post-op on monday.. completely frustrating. according to my scale i've lost 20 lbs and was down to 194. I didn't eat or drink anything but when they weighed me at the dr.'s office, according to their scale i weighed 200 lbs... i burst into tears and the nurse was like "oh you're doing good... why are you crying?"... it was just so frustrating because on surgery date i was 207 and i'm only down 7 lbs... i said "i haven't eaten a meal in 4 weeks... if i can't lose weight on liquids how am i supposed to lose weight when i start eating solid food again"... then i met with the dietitician, she asked if i was having remorse about the surgery and i said i wasn't, i was just disappointed because of the difference in the scales... so we talked for while and she said for me to keep a food chart for 2 weeks and come back to see her. so far keeping a food chart has helped with the temptation to cheat... i won't lie though, it's 11 pm and i really want something to eat. oh well... must be time to go to bed! guess i need to change my ticker... man that sucks.
  13. thanks everyone for your input... ask my surgeon that's cute... i'm not sure how everyone else's surgeon is, but i had my 2 week post-op on monday and my surgeon spent about 32 seconds with me.. in fact told me to follow him to the dietitcian as i was still asking him questions... it was a little frustrating, but i forgot to ask her. i'm not much of a drinker myself, but it's one of those things that once someone tells me i can't do it or have it, that becomes the thing i want! :-)
  14. i'm 2 weeks out from surgery... i really really want a drink... how long did everyone wait til they started drinking again?
  15. yeah, that would be great if you would keep me informed. I actually live on the northeast side of Indy, so if you find any near Geist or Castleton, that would be good to know as well. thanks for your help. have a great day!
  16. wow... i have been thinking the same things about the "support" groups, although I did go to the cooking class one and the nutritionalist said that the next one will be "hosted" by the counselor so hopefully it will be more helpful. it seemed that i was losing about a pound a day but all of a sudden i stepped on the scale last night and it 'appears' that i've gained a pound or two. dr. clark. i hope that this whole experience will be a positive one i don't know what to think of the staff at the weight loss clinic... i guess for them it really is just a job and maybe we're expecting too much for them to actually "care"... maybe not, i have no idea. I guess we just need to support one another and care for each other... if you need someone to vent to... my email is snereb27@yahoo.com, we'll just have to stick together!
  17. i was feeling really good after my surgery (3/30), however, I went to the movie on tuesday and during the movie, i got a sharp pain in my left shoulder. Once I stood up, it lessened. however, every since then, when I sit for too long or when I take a deep breath, i feel the pain again. I talked to a doctor tonight at a support group and he said I needed to talk to my surgeon, but it may be my diaphram pushing Fluid in my lungs up into my shoulder. i do not feel the pain when i'm laying down nor when i'm standing. he said to call my doctor's nurse tomorrow (4/10), but i see my surgeon on monday (4/13) so unless it gets worse, I'll probably just wait until then to talk to him. anyone else experienced this type of pain?
  18. Thank you peascorps for the information! i guess i need to just get up and walk a little more so that sitting won't be as uncomfortable!
  19. i was banded 3/30, i feel pretty good for the most part, but has anyone else noticed that if you sit for too long, it's painful? i went to church Wednesday night and today, and rode in a car yesterday, but after a couple of hours of sitting, i'm really uncomfortable. also i still have a lot of gas... how long will that last? is it still from the anesthesia or is it just from having a smaller pouch? i still have a nagging pain in my back under my left shoulder blade that i'm assuming is from the anesthesia. any thoughts??? thanks for any input. ps... stupid question, but how do i update my weightloss ticker???
  20. I have cellulititis in my leg, will that prevent them from doing my surgery?
  21. My question is for the ladies... has anyone noticed that once they lost their weight that unwanted facial hair also went away or am I just stuck with it forever? I was told that with my PCOS that as I lose weight the level of testosterone that i produce as a woman will lessen and therefore won't have a problem with facial hair. Has anyone noticed this with their weightloss?
  22. thanks bioteacher and jujuvee.. i hope this is a positive experience for me. I was at the nutrition class yesterday, i was sitting in the front row at the table by myself. i was a little intimidated after the class, but just need to keep reminding myself I can do this.... it will be hard, but necessary to get healthy. it will be helpful when i start going to the support groups, the whole process has been so quick for me, which i'm glad for, but at times is a little overwhelming since i'm alone in this endeavor. thanks for the encouragement though! :-)
  23. i'm having surgery w/ dr. clark on march 25th. everyone has seemed really helpful so far, but i haven't met with him yet either. will i even get to talk to him before my surgery? i hope this turns out to be a positive experience for me. :cursing:
  24. i'm having my surgery March 25th. I'm so excited, i can hardly stand myself. i'm a little intimidated by the presurgery/postsurgery diet but i know it will be worth it.
  25. Hi everyone. I'm new to the lap band family. I am scheduled for surgery on March 25th... i am so excited i can hardly stand myself! I appreciate any encouragement/advice/suggestions you have for me. Thanks!
