Happy Days
Congratulations!!! This too is something that I look forward to once I'm banded next week! It's so embarrassing when the bars hurt you on rides or you just can't fit! Way to go!

So confused!
I am being banded next week, I chose Lap Band because it's not a quick fix but a tool. I would rather lose slowly and hopefully not have too much excess skin. I have heard that the fills are not painful at all. You still have to work with it, but there is no cutting my stomach and changing my insides. I feel it was a much safer choice for me. You have to do what you feel is best for you.

Haters
Make sure you wear a little outfit while washing that car! You've earned it girl! He should appreciate it, not sabbotage your success with an attitude!

My loss is another persons gain.
Great story! I can't wait to donate my clothes too! I'm hoping that when I lose some weight, my skinny friends will feel bad for me and donate some of their clothes to me...we all win!

Recovery Time???
Thank you all for the advice. I think you are all right, I think it would be too much. I think I'll have my husband still go and bring one of my friends who was going to ride in with us. No reason for them not to still have a fun night out, I'll just fake a headache at the last minute.

Recovery Time???
I am having surgery on Wednesday morning, first appointment of the day, 7am! I can not wait...pre-op diet is getting boring though I'm happy that it's not all liquid. I've been doing pretty good on it, down 10lbs. I'm amazed when I look at the scale. On Friday night, the 13th, a bunch of high school friends are meeting up for a reunion and going dancing. I'm trying to figure out how to explain why I can't go (downside of not telling anyone!). Is there any chance that I would be up enough to go out and offer to be the designated driver (since I can't drink anyway!) or am I fooling myself to think I may be able to make it for the reunion?

What are you most looking forward to after banding?
I'm looking forward to: feeling healthy getting rid of pain having more energy for my kids and husband not feeling self conscious in public not covering up my bathing suit smaller breasts my legs not touching cleaning out my closet of 5 different sizes not cutting the size out of my clothes (because I'm embarrassed if my tag shows!) looking pretty for my husband being more comfortable in smaller spaces, like plane seats and amuzement park rides

Week one post-op done!
Wow, great job! I agree with the smaller plate, I've actually used this as a diet and my friends and family refer to it as The Small Plate Diet and they make fun of me! They are seeing me do it now and don't realize that I'm having surgery! LOL! They have seen the results though, it works if you stick with it. A small plate with the lap band is the key to success!

Who is Sabotaging your efforts???
Sorry that you had a hard day! Thank god for the support you have here! Why exactly is it not fair to spend the money on the surgery? Is your MIL overweight, and possibly jealous of you for having the courage to find a way to be healthy? Is it not fair to her son to have a wife who likes how she looks, who has a great self esteem, who is healthy and beautiful. What's not fair about that? I think you already know...I have not told anyone but my DH about my surgery for this exact reason! People think they have the right to tell you what they think, when it doesn't matter what they think. The only thing that matters is you and your health! If she becomes too negative, try to distance yourself. As many of us can agree, being judged can trigger us to eat more! She's not worth it! You will be successful and you will have the last word!

August rush 2010!!!
I can't believe I'm already starting my second week of the pre-op diet! One week from today I will be banded! Luckily, I'm the first appointment...have to be at the hospital at 6am and surgery scheduled for 7am! I'm giddy! I feel like I'm carrying this big secret around with me. My friends have already asked me how I've lost 10lbs, and I have told them about my portion sizes. I don't feel guilty about not telling anyone but my husband, I thought I would, but I don't. Maybe in a year, I'll be telling everyone, but for right now, I just want it to be a private thing. I hope my friends and family respect my choice to not share if/when it comes out that I had surgery. Thanks everyone for posting and keeping my eye on the prize!

August 2010 anyone?
Oh, I know what you mean about thinking you are going to lose weight from doing the right thing and then not losing a pound. I find that my body just wants to hold onto everything. You may find though that instead of losing weight, you gained some muscle and that's why the scale didn't change. If you walked and didn't snack, you still helped your body! I'm getting excited and nervous about surgery too...it was suppose to be tomorrow but because of an important meeting, I had to push it to next week instead. I can't wait!

You Never Know What is Waiting Around the Corner
82 pounds??? I can only hope for that success!

YESSSSSS! Can't Shop in Woman's World!!!
Congratulations! I can't wait to have moments like that! I think I could go shopping in my own closet though...all the different sizes I have purchased through the years! My DH made me promise that once things don't fit, I will give away. He said eventually I'll have a whole new wardrobe, he just doesn't want to see all the clothes that I don't wear!

something new...
Wow! That's tough...but you are at the right place! You need support! Try not to beat yourself up over it, just get back on track. Remember why you decided to do this. Reset your goal, reset your mind. Perhaps you can talk to your doctor? Get a fill for more restriction? I'm not banded yet, but those would be the first two things that I would do. Remember to put yourself first! Journaling my food does help me too.

August rush 2010!!!
What is this poo poo medicine you speak of? LOL...no one told me about poo poo medicine! Though you may as call the protein shakes the same thing! LOL!

Before and After pictures
I have not posted any pictures yet, I haven't told anyone that I'm having surgery(except my DH) and I'm almost afraid that someone I know will see a post on here from me! I know...crazy! I think once I have the surgery, and start losing, then I will post the before and after pictures. My surgery is on 8/11, so I'm still at the before shots, minus the 9lbs I've lost on the pre-op. With that said, I can not tell you how inspiring the pictures are that people post. It's the first place I go on the website, I love seeing the pictures. I hope that one day, someone will see my pictures and be inspired to change their life too. Thank you for those who have shared, you probably have no idea how you have touched those of us who were considering the surgery! Congratulations on your success!

protein shakes
I like the premade EAS AdvantEDGE carb control in chocolate. I get them at BJs in a case of 24 for about $26. I also have the EAS Whey protein in vanilla and chocolate. I use this when I'm at home and can make it myself. The premade ones are great when you are going to be out of the house for a while.

August rush 2010!!!
I know I shouldn't complain about this, but is anyone else losing weight really fast on this pre-op diet? I'm down 9lbs since Sunday. I even made my husband check the scale because I thought maybe it was wrong. I'm a little worried that I'm losing it too fast.

August rush 2010!!!
I'm a stay at home mom (that's easier for me to say than...I had to stop working because of my illnesses!), but my husband is taking a day off. He's saying that I'm having a "woman's procedure" and if anyone asks for more information, he's going to say it's personal.

Joined the Gym
Thanks. A lot of my friends go to this gym and they have been really supportive during my illnesses these past few years. One of my friends wants me to take classes with her, I told her that I need to build up to classes and just need to do this at my own pace! Knowing that I have them there, it should be easier to get myself to go!

Day 3 of the Pre-op diet but.......the weekend is here!!!
Hey August 11th Buddy! I'm also on day 3, down 6lbs (I'm thinking it's water cuz I'm peeing all the time!) I'm home during the day, so I have to find other things to do. I use a food journal, it's really easy to make one on your computer or just grab a piece of paper. Write down when you are going to have your shakes and your meals. Then write down when to take your water or fluids. If you decide to go out, pack up what you need in a small cooler or if you are home, find something to do and keep to your schedule. It's two days...you can do it!!

Joined the Gym
I did it! A friend of mine won a contest for a gym membership - $99 for the year and could invite other friends to join with her. I was scared to just even walk in to sign up, but I had to by today or they wouldn't honor it! I didn't work out, my kids were with me, but I'm proud of myself for signing up! I figured I could work up my strength walking on a treadmill and then going from there. When I've worked out in the past, I've always liked going to classes, but I know I won't dare to go in there until some of the weight comes off. I found an old weight loss journal that includes a workout page and a food tracking page, so I made copies for myself and started a new binder. Small changes = big results!

August 2010 anyone?
I think insurance varies from company to company and plan to plan. The doctor's office should be able to tell you if you qualify. My doctor basically said if I had X or Y insurance, I would probably not be approved, but since I had Anthem, she said she was almost certain that with my health issues, I would be approved. The only thing that annoyed me about the whole process was my meeting with the nutritionist! I was very honest with her, I tend to skip meals and don't pay too much attention to what I eat. I don't buy junk food, so I'd go without eating and then be starving later in the day and eat whatever I wanted because I thought I didn't eat...I could eat everything! She made me wait another month and document my eating. I also gained 1.3 lbs (which I had a heart surgery on Tuesday and was weighed by her on Friday so it could have just been water) and she made me lose that weight before she would let me go forward. The office has a policy of no weight gain, but for insurance, I couldn't lose either...it was hard! I would ask a lot of insurance questions when you go in! Good luck! I'm not on a liquid diet, just a preop, I can have 2 frozen meals each day in addition to 3 shakes and all the veggies I want!
