Hello... I'm 50, but had my surgery 3 years ago. Best decision we (my husband had an RNY 20 days after me) ever made!! Healthier now than we've been for years before surgery.

Hello...I live in Baltimore, MD and I just had gastric bypass surgery Friday, July 17th. I did very well and was able to go home the next day. I am able to walk, go up and down stairs, and sit upright position in a chair. There is not a lot of pain, but I am uncomfortable from the gas. I have yet to make a bowel movement or burp. I have been practicing my breathing exercise with my pump. I have to remind myself to drink more frequently because I'm just not hungry or thirsty.

    Hi all,
I'm just starting out in my gastric bypass journey. I have a series of 4 appointments over the next 3 months before I have surgery. I'm a 30 year old male, 5'9 and 270 lbs, I just made the 40 bmi mark. I've tried every diet and exercise plan in the past but my overeating always does me in. I'm really excited to get thin and healthy, I have a beautiful wife and two little girls I need to stick around for!

Your post was too vague so it's kind of a loaded gun, it could lead to people reacting negatively to other's answers, but with all due respect if you meant that you went off your recommended diet "a few times" then I would say you need to take a step back and re-assess your psyche, this is not a quick fix for many of us, I is very hard work that requires commitment FOR THE RESTOF YOUR LIFE!!! Part of this is your psych evaluation, but a lot of people on here know what to say, I think you should go through with this, but not unless your willing to commit and make the changes necessary to reach your goals, I am passionate about this since my health was deteriorating quickly and I am not ready to quit my wife and kids!!! If you want a pal to help you when you get discourage inbox me I'll give you my Facebook and phone, I want to pay it forward, and I want others to succeed!

Thought I would check in today.. had my first follow up appointment yesterday- things going well. Healing good. Losing weight.
Yesterday was tricky though since it was out of my normal routine I found it really hard to keep track of my fluids Vitamins and Protein drinks!! Making it priority today. I am feeling blah and not sure what it is. Or maybe I do...
I have 5 kids (2 toddlers and 3 teenagers.) Few days ago our basement flooded (pump broke) ruined the AC circuit board so no AC for like 4 days now...have window AC put in and sheets nailed up over the doorways ways to keep the first floor cool though. AC guy supposed to come today. I cant keep up with the house as I am still sore and cant exactly able to move like used to. Husband been spending his time fixing the pump cleaning up basement back and forth to the stores to get parts...when he was supposed to take over MY job and deal with the kids while im in recovery so I don't have have too much stress to worry about but that has not been happening. We have all been confined to the first floor and im about to pull hair. I'm hoping this gets easier down the road :/
    Still no regrets though.

I had my 6 week post op appointment today... Since I my first consultation with my surgeon on 12/08/14 I have lost a total of 45 lbs and my post surgery weight loss is 38 lbs! I did a happy dance as I got off the scale. The nurse may have thought I'm a little crazy but this is the first time in my adult life that I have fallen below 220!
Anyone else having any motivating successes???

Today brings a NSV! My husband got me boots for Christmas last year (extra wide calf) and I couldn't zip them up over my ankles even ????. Thought I would try them on this morning and they zipped right up!! Now if it wasn't summer I would totally be sporting them everywhere ????

Virgo66 yes, I had my band placed in 2008 and struggled with it to the point where I just ate junk to avoid getting sick. Even with the few complications I've had I don't regret the revision at all! I had my 6 week check up on Friday and i am at the lowest weight since I had my son in 2003.

@cuchas @linseeka I just answered a post on a similar topic just now and my advice to you, as was given to me from my breast specialist is to avoid the "sag" get and wear a good supportive bra.
If you are working out you need a good sports bra to support those babies. Depending on the workout you need one that is more supportive than not. Not supporting them makes them prone to having tears in the soft Fiber and muscle that breast tissue is made up of. If you are extra busty because of excess weight you are going to deflate a bit...but you won't sag. I lost weight in my upper clavicle area and can now see my collar bone but my breast size and shape has remained the same. My bra size went from a 42DD to a 38DD at my thinnest as a teenager I was a 36DD so you can see the size of the breast hasn't changed as much as my body circumference has.
As for the piercings...they sell the plastic retainers that you can place for surgery and for any tests like MRI or X-ray etc. If your piercings have closed and you think you might have a breast augmentation in the future I would hold off re-piercing until then. If not put them back in and Rock on with your bad self!

I too am very excited. I met with my surgeon also yesterday and they have set my date for Band to Gastric Bypass surgery for June 10th!! Also, it is my husbands birthday. My band was placed the day after Valentines Day 7 years ago. Lots of trouble and weight regain, plus more. I am an OR nurse and scared to death to have the surgery because of all the complications that "may" happen. But really want the surgery to get he weight off, feel better, get healthy and decrease all the arthritic pain. I need to get back to nursing....... The pain and stiffness has prevented me from working as a nurse.
I have had all the preliminary work completed and found out that I have Barrette's Esophagus. So surprised but have been assured by my surgeon that the bypass is a great surgery to make this much better. Pray so......
Anyway, I am having the band removed and bypass all in one surgery. Any comments about one step or two step conversions.??s???
    Thank

As far as how long you should be off, I was off for 1 1/2 weeks from my office job and went back 1/2 days for a couple of days before returning to full time.

If this is coming from the insurance company you need to contact Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy. You can google them for their contact information. They have helped many people work thru these types of ridiculous issues with insurance companies. In fact, they are handling my appeal. I have all of the confidence in the world in them!!!! Having to go thru another 6 month documentation doesn't seem quite right especially since you've had procedures previously. My surgeon's office got all of my information screwed up when they sent in for predetermination so I was denied TWICE!!! One reason: need 6 month documented weight-loss plan. NOT!!!!
Employee turnover in surgeon's offices is crazy so 1/2 the time they don't get things right. You really need to contact Lindstrom before you do anything else. Initial call is free.

I'm almost three weeks post op and lost about 15 pounds. In fact in the first two weeks I lost only 9. I was frustrated too but thought, I didn't do this because I can't LOSE weight, I did it because I can't keep it off. So it was still worth it. And the last few times I lost weight by dieting, it took a while for it to kick in and then it started coming off regularly. I'm hoping that'll happen again!!
