My first official R&R...Bandsters who dont know a damn thing about banding
Wait, what's this about mucus? Did I miss something?
-
What would you change?
That reminds me of my dad. He wouldn't admit until recently that he's losing his hearing. It was always, "I could hear you perfectly if you weren't mumbling!" We FINALLY got him to admit that he's just deaf as a post and that it isn't the people around him. What did it was when he went for his continuing education and couldn't hear the speaker, even though he sat in the front row and she had a microphone. Something about the tones of women's voices, high pitches, etc. Anyway, he BLARES the TV. He's got a set of those wireless earphones with a tranceiver that you hook up to the TV, so that he can turn up the volume as loud as he needs without turning up the volume on the actual TV, but we can't get him to use them.

Wow.
How do you do that? There are some that I want to keep, but I'd like to free up the space in my inbox.

I feel like shooting my neighbor.
With my luck, she'd call the cops. And she works at Starbucks, so I don't want to piss her off. I NEED my coffee when I make the hour-long drive to go teach every Friday.

Feeling Blue- Abnormal Scarring
Can anyone post pictures of what their scars look like? Wheetsin's explanation was great, but I need a visual in my head of what normal scarring looks like versus hypertrophic scarring versus keloid scarring.

Anyone Else 5'1-5'2"??
Ditto. Well, I was before banding, anyway. I hit 202 the other day and I am just about in a size 18 now. Actually, I can fit into an 18 and get them easily zipped, but they are still a tad snugger than I prefer my pants to be. I keep having to hitch my 20's up. Which feels AWESOME, btw.

I feel like shooting my neighbor.
Not seriously, of course, but I'm still very, very pissed at her. I'm sitting here listening to HER bad music through my floor.

My first official R&R...Bandsters who dont know a damn thing about banding
That's definitely one of my pet peeves. There was a member posting not too long ago about the "truth about the lap-band." And of course, her "truth" was that she spent the majority of her time in the bathroom, PBing and vomiting. She got corrected, but she didn't like the correction. She didn't like being told that what she was experiencing WASN'T normal bandster behavior.

Do you think it's rude to correct another's grammar?
This is what you posted in response to my question asking why you believed that religion and science were one and the same: Can anyone else see where I was coming from when I asked for clarification and for her to put those subjects in a full sentence?

Salads
I don't have any problem eating salads (luckily, it seems that the only food that gives me trouble is bread). I just usually view it as a waste of the very limited space in my pouch, so unless it's a REALLY tasty looking salad, I ignore it. I do occasionally steal a bite from someone else's plate (had a bite of my mom's lettuce with pico de gallo and a bit of cheese at a Mexican restaurant yesterday), but most of the time I focus on the other foods available (had 3/4 of a small beef enchilada at the Mexican restaurant).

Pounds or percentages?
That's a good point. Whatever motivates someone the best, I say!

Do you think it's rude to correct another's grammar?
I ditto that. I mean, I've done it before, but I generally only do it when I sincerely can't understand what the person is attempting to say. I did it just the other day, when the person posting just posted a random combination of subjects (or at least, it seemed that way to me) and apparently expected us all to read her mind to discover the meaning. I was literally thinking, "What the hell does that mean?" Seriously, I was literally scratching my head. I even PMed some of the other people in the thread, to ask if they understood. They didn't, either. I was nice about it, too, when I eventually brought it up to the poster. I just asked for a little clarification and for her to put the words in a sentence, so that I knew what she was trying to say. I got jumped on. Some people are a little TOO sensitive about this stuff. I mean, I don't ask for a lot when I debate. I don't care if someone mispells something or if their grammar is bad. I do want to be able to figure out what they are attempting to say, though. And I don't think I should be jumped on by that person, when I've politely asked for clarification. PMing them wouldn't work in some cases. There are people here that don't check their PM box more than once a week. You aren't guaranteed to get a response. And when they are pressing you for a response to their post, it's a lot nicer to ask them for clarification than it is to tell them, "I'm going to ignore your post because no one can understand what you are trying to say."

I won't follow the herd any more...
And don't forget the emails where she gives recommendations for CDs and books. She earns a commission every time someone follows one of the links she sends out and buys something.

Pounds or percentages?
Do you think of your weightloss in terms of the number of pounds you've lost, or the percentage of your excess weight that you've lost? As of yesterday, I've lost 20 pounds, which is also 20% of my excess weight. For some reason, though, I prefer to think of my loss in terms of percentage. I think it is because I can get a realistic idea of how far I've come and how far I have to go.

Wow.
I don't either, to be honest! When you get a couple of really good friends, though, and send multiple messages to each one every day and they send you multiple messages, it adds up fast. And yes, the deleting's a pain in the rear. I wish the damn page would display more than it does.

Peanut Butter and chocolate shake
Hi! I think I'm the one that originally posted the link. The mix is Whey Gourmet Chocolate Peanut Butter. You can buy it at Netrition.com - The Internet's Premier Nutrition Superstore! under the brand name PVL, or at Bariatric Eating - Protein, Vitamins, Gastric Bypass & Lap Band Info, Post-op Recipes, and Help (a little more expensive, more shipping cost, and can take a while to ship). It's a little expensive, though, so if you want to try it before committing to an entire jug of it, PM me your address and I'll get a sample out to you ASAP.

Next time, I'm goin' to Mexico!
To add to my original post without going to the trouble of editing it: I am an advocate of people going to Mexico, as long as they do their research. I see so many people on this site that decide to go to Mexico for surgery and just seem to pick a surgeon out of a phone book, or based solely on price, or because a friend of theirs had a decent experience. And they pick bad surgeons. They don't research the surgeon thoroughly. But, I guess you could also say that about a lot of people having surgery in the US.

Whats the worst you've heard?
Ah, that reminds me of my family, one of my uncles, to be specific. His comment wasn't about my weight, though. I got an internship on Cape Cod at a wildlife refuge in the summer of 2004. Well, the summer after that (the next time I saw this uncle), he hugged me and said, "That was so great! I never thought you could do it." I was like, "Gee, thanks, Uncle Ed." On one hand, he was complimenting me, because I impressed him, but on the other, he had freakin' low expectations of me!

DOES ANYONE.... Protien shakes- day, Veggies- night?

I won't follow the herd any more...
1. Like WASa said, you were only referred to in the first two of those quotes. And yeah, I don't think a lot of anyone who, instead of simply ignoring threads they don't want to read, decide that they want to restrict everyone else's access. But still, you were referred to in only those quotes. We were actually talking about other people the rest of the time. 2. If you want to go back to discussing that other thread, I'm sure it's somewhere in the depths of RnR.

I won't follow the herd any more...
Look, I'll be super honest, here. Thinking back to when I was at OH and when I've read since then, I don't remember Sandy or Wendell starting most of the stuff. Most of the threads and posts that are clear in my mind were started or posted by other people. Sure, Wendell made posts, and so did Sandy. But the fuss wasn't made by them, for the most part. I don't think it's correct to state that either one is responsible for affecting the board. They weren't. Most people ignored their posts. If there was a specific person that you didn't like or didn't agree with, you either ignored them or put them on block once it became available. What really affected the board were the threads and posts made by other people. It made it an intensely uncomfortable place to visit, simply because it wasn't just one person that you could block. You could go into a thread that seemed harmless from it's title, and it would be someone bitching about someone without every actually stating their name. Of course, you still knew who they were talking about. It was stuff like that that really affected the board. Protein posts didn't, since as everyone knows, people aren't alike. Some people wouldn't do well with protein drinks. Other people do just fine or even wonderfully (just look at WASa). I think most of the people at the board knew that. I can say, as a new bandster and a pre-bandster at the time, the protein posts and candy posts and so on weren't what bothered me. My nutritionist told me that what works, works. As long as you are healthy, losing weight, you're happy, your doctor is happy, and your nutritionist is happy, who cares if you have a mini candy bar or a protein shake?

How does someone who has had a bankruptsy qualify for a medical loan for surgery
THAT would be a major problem. Her credit score is probably in the dumps right now. I don't think you'll find a credit agency willing to take the risk. And if they do, they are going to charge astronomical interest and fees.

I won't follow the herd any more...
Thank you. I think we both got a little overly pissy, with tempers riding so high. That's all I wanted, an acknowledgement that what Sandy did was wrong. If you want the links to the stuff she did, WASa can probably help you. I've seen the stuff, but I didn't keep the links. I mean, I can personally attest to her taking an abstract of a scientific article, adding on to the conclusions section, and then posting it and literally saying that the authors of the article made those conclusions. I've seen the licensing report thingies from where she lost her RN licence (she was never an NP). I don't pretend to believe that Wendell is perfect. Believe me, we don't agree on many things. But I don't think that anything he did justified what Sandy did. And honestly, she was already committing a crime by claiming to be licensed way before they started clashing. So yes, consider the hatchet buried. I think we can definitely become friends. Well, as long as we don't discuss anything to do with OH. I seriously hate that place.

Bandster support for us Heathens/Pagans
Ack! I can't believe I forgot about this thread! Hi, guys!
