Will the band ever work?
Hey MUM, I am basically in the same boat that you are in. I got my band August 18th. I have lost 17 pounds since then and I haven't lost anything in the last 3 weeks. I have had 2 fills since my operation. I recieved 3 1/2cc the first time and 1cc the second time. I still have no restriction. I like you am having to go on will power at the moment. I have another appointment this coming Tuesday for yet another fill and am terrified that it will not help. I have been told that it takes a while to actually start working, to give it time. I have decided to do just that and in the mean time, I have started my walking. I have walked 4 miles today and plan on doing atleast 2 miles tomorrow. I guess I figure, as long as I am out walking I am not thinking of food as much and plus, walking raises your heart rate and helps to burn calories. Don't give up and keep all of your Dr. appointments. Give it time to do it's job and remember, you have to help it out along the way and not expect it to do the job all by itself. Good luck on your journey!

Smoking after being banded
You hit it right on the money there Kaytiebugs, I do the same thing. My husband is still smoking and I make him go brush his teeth before kissing me now. He gets mad and says, "you never made me do this before, why are you making me do it now"? I just tell him, "before I still smoked and couldn't taste it, now when you kiss me it's like kissing an ashtray and it's NASTY". We were driving down the road the other day, now, I have fully cleaned my car and gotten rid of all the smoke smell, he lights one up, I turn on my blinker, pull to the emergency lane and stop. He asks whats wrong and I said if you are going to do that its not going to be in my car, either throw it out or get out and smoke it, maybe it was mean but I didn't want that smell back in my car or on me. He threw it out and didn't speak to me the rest of the way there

Need help... What would you do????
I hear you on that one, my ex husband (the sorry low down good for nothing pain in my a$$), doesn't pay child support, isn't involved in either of my kids lives, and seems that he could care less about his own flesh and blood. Meanwhile, he is married to someone else, raising her kids, involved in their lives, and helps with anything they need. So yeah, some men leave the ones they had a hand in making and take care of someone elses kids. I have a wonder life now, a wonderful husband (even though I am kind of ticked off at him at the moment he is still wonderful), he takes care of my kids like they are his own.

Need help... What would you do????
I can actually speak from experience with a cheating husband. Mine use to wait until I went to work and do his thing. Anyways, stress isn't good for the band, that is true, but it also isn't good for anything in your life. Go through with the operation, do it for yourself and show that cheating slimball that nothing he can do is going to change the fact that one day he is going to really realize what a mistake he has made and you (hopefully) wont be there to take him back. But more so, do it for the reason of getting your life back on track and for your health. Divorce isn't easy and I only believe in it for 2 reasons, adultry and viloence, he crossed that line, now its your turn to hit him where it hurts. Good luck sweetie

Just gotta vent
Have you ever felt like you must be the only one in the whole entire world that is going through this? Have you ever felt like nobody really cares? Have you ever felt nobody could honestly know how you are feeling or what it's like to be going through this, one of the biggest changes in your adult life? That's how I am feeling right now. I'm pissed off at the world including myself. I feel that my band isn't working anymore and that this is going to be one of those crazy things I tried, it took a little bit of weight off and now it's done. I feel I just wasted my time doing all of this. My husband sits on the bed eating a jelly filled something or other watching his cartoons, not even knowing that I am sitting here in front of the computer crying my eyes out. He don't know that I'm crying because I'm confused, I'm scared, I'm frustrated, I'm ticked off. All he knows is cartoons is on and he is watching them. I have an appointment tomorrow for my 3rd fill, since the first and the second one isn't seeming to do the trick. The Nurse at the surgeons office says that she will do this fill like she has been doing the other fills but if I don't feel any restriction in a couple of days to call and schedule another appointmet for a fill under the fluro. Did I say I have an appointment 2morrow? Well, I had one. My husband can't get off work tomorrow, I have nobody to go to the Doctors office with me, the ride is over 100 miles and over 2 hours away, I'm buying my car with it in my dads name, and he comes in my room tonight and informs me that I am not driving that far by myself. The car is in his name, the keys WONT be here to the car tomorrow when I get up, that I will have to reschedule it for sometime next week. ( we are in the middle of building our own home so we are staying with my folks to save money) My dad wouldn't even have known about the appointment tomorrow if my hubby hadn't went outside to smoke with my dad and had to open his big mouth about me going by myself and wouldn't listen to him about calling to cancel the appointment and get one for next week when he can take off work. Him and his big stupid mouth. I want a cigg. so bad right now I can't stand it. I want something sweet to comfort me right now. I quit smoking the day I had my surgery, I quit sweets, I can't have cokes anymore cause of the carbonation in them, so I'm sitting here drinking chocolate milk out of a walt disney world glass. Some ppl are addicted to drugs, me I am addicted to chocolate milk...lol looky there, I just made myself smile. I am beginning to think I am depressed. I need to make an appointment with therapist, but the closest one to where I live is over 30 miles away and the gas prices are climbing so high that I can barely afford to put gas in the car now and days. I just have to wonder if anyone else is going through this same thing or am I the only one going through it. I have nobody to talk to. Nobody that I know personally that has went through this, my family hasn't went through it except with me so they dont know anymore than I do. So all they can manage to do it make me madder and make me cry harder. I want to go to bed, but at the same time I dont. I tried earlier, before I got on the computer. I laid there crying, just thinking about how I'm not losing weight, how I want to eat, how I want to smoke, how I miss eating. You have to understand, I'm not one of the poor poor pitty me ppl. I don't like to be fussed over, and I'm not one to walk around with my head down. But these past few hours, I have just felt so bad. What's going on with me?

Smoking after being banded
I only smoked for a little over 3 yrs when I was banded. I smoked my last one about 4 hours before I had the operation. I haven't had one since and that was August 15 of this yr. I still have craving for one now and again but they dont last long. The Nurse told me right before I left the hospital that I had a greater chance of a GI bleed if I continued smoking. The way I look at it is this way, I went through the whole thing before surgery, the pre-op diets, the doctors visits, my insurance, all of that jazz, in the end I was banded and I wasn't going to continue throwing my life away on something that not only stinks and makes you stink, but something that last less that 10 minutes, so I threw them down and haven't had one since. Now just the smell of them makes me sick!!! You can do it, I believe in you.

could the band just not be working anymore?
MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AIm not sure if you are thinking I haven't had any fills yet, I have had 2 already and they aren't working. I have 5 or 5 1/2cc right now. I just called my doctor and they are going to get me in for another fill but this time they are going to do it under the fluoroscopy to make sure nothing is going on while I am being filled. I also ask if maybe the band wasn't up high enough on my stomach (a friend of the family had the band done about 8 months ago and brought that question to my attention over the weekend. Anyways, I'm now sitting here waiting for the Nurse to call me back with when and where I will have my 3rd adjustment.

could the band just not be working anymore?
Hey guys and gals. I am 1 month and 11 days post op. I have only lost 17 pounds. I lost 16 pounds the first 2 weeks after having the band put in while I was on the clear liquid diet. Since then, I have only lost 1 pound. Is or has anyone else had this problem? I am really getting frustrated and starting to wonder if the band has stopped working for me. Although I dont, I could still eat just as I did before being banded. It's like I'm not even getting full. What's going on with my band? I have already had 2 fills and have a total of 5cc in a 9cc band? My last fill was on the 25 of this month.

question on restriction....
Hey everyone, I had my 2nd fill yesterday and I have a question I am hoping I can get an answer to. I was eating my supper and I started having this feeling of pressure and tightness in the lower part of my chest. It was hurting or painful pressure. Is this the restriction feeling that people say they have or what?

CHange in body odor
I have the same problem. I ask the Nurse at my surgeons office about it yesterday and it is from Ketosis. Our bodies are getting rid of all the toxins and it is making us "stink". Bad way to say it, but the only way to put it. She told me to use Secret platium and use some body spray and that should help. I haven't gotten the new DEO yet, but I already had some body spray, (well not body spray but um private area spray) and I have used that and it helps. So my advise is, Secret Platium and summers eve feminine spray ( i use island splash). Hopefully it will work for you as well.

Clumping....omg it hurts
OMG, I had my first (true) clumping experience a while ago. For those of you who are lucky enough to not have experienced this yet. Let me tell you. I was eating a piece of baked Chicken, and within just a couple of seconds after eating it, I was out on the front porch on my knees. I had so much pressure in my chest it was unreal. I couldn't belch and I couldn't throw it up. It was there, stuck, and I couldnt do anything about it. I think I either ate my chicken to fast, or I had to big of a bite, maybe even both. All I know is that from now I, this girl is going to eat slow and small small bites.:rolleyes2:

BM problems
The pain around your port: its because the port is located between your skin and the muscle. I was in pain with that spot for about 2 1/2 weeks maybe 3. The more you walk the less it will hurt. It takes time, but it does go away, I promise. About the BMs. I had the same problem for a couple of weeks. I was going bout 4 times a day and it was like I was peeing from back there. My surgeon said that it is normal and that something for loose stools would help with it. I think alot of my weight that I lost to begin with was because of the very very loose stools I was having. Just go to the store and get something for diarrhea.

2nd adjustment
Hey all! I am due to have my 2nd adjustment Thursday. I was just wondering, I already have 3 1/2cc (from 1st fill), should I have any restriction with my 2nd fill. With what I have now, I still feel no restriction at all. I can eat just like I did before the band (although I don't), but I am still hungry within a couple hours. I have been trying this K2O water but it doesn't feel like it is working cause its not taking the edge off my hunger feeling. Please tell me good news and I will be able to feel the restriction with my 2nd fill

August bander here
Hey everyone. My name is Michele. I'm from Tennessee and was banded in August of this year. I have only lost 16 pounds but well on my way to a slimmer me. I have been looking around on this site since about 2 weeks before I joined the lapband world and finally decided to join this evening. I am hoping to make some online friends to share stories with on what we are going through. I have already had my first fill and will be going back for my second fill this coming Thursday since the first one has done nothing for me. I am really hoping the second one give me some restriction. Any comments from anybody will be well welcomed. I hope everyone out there in bandland is doing well and making their goals. Michele banded on august 18th, 2008 1st fill on September 15 2008 2nd fill on September 25 2008

Do you weigh your food or just measure it?
What kind of band do you have? I have the realize band, 9cc. Your first fill, don't expect to much. I just had my first fill on the 15th and got 3 1/2cc and I barely have any restriction at all. Luckyly, I have an appointment this coming Thursday to have another adjustment.

my first experience eating out since being banded
Hey all, just thought I would share my experience from today with all of you. My husband and went to shoneys for lunch. The Doctor said that when I went out to eat not to order my own plate just nibble off of my hubbys plate. Less cost and not having to worry about over eating. Well, that is just what we did. He ordered the lunch bar. I explained to the waitress that I had just had the lapband surgery and what my doctor had told us to do. She was more than fine with this as long as I didn't make a trip to the bar myself and the plate stayed on his side of the table. All was fine with the 2 of us on that. My hubby comes back with turkey, dressing, greenbeans, and some other stuff. I no more had more than about 2 very small bites of turkey & dressing and a couple of green Beans when the waitress comes to our table and informs us that her manager saw us sharing a plate and said that I had to either order from the menu or the bar. I was upset but I was going to order the kids bar and the manager says no after the waitress asks her if it was ok. I demanded to see the manager and in a few minutes she was at our table. I again explained that I had just had the lapband surgery and couple eat anymore than just a few bites. She said that I was more than welcome to order ANYTHING from the kids menu but couldnt share a plate with my husband. I told her that was fine and then informed the waitress that I would just eat a little bit off of the lunch bar and to let it be from the kids menu. The manager very fast said I couldn't order the childs lunch bar because I could eat more than a child. HELLO DID SHE FORGET WHAT I HAD JUST EXPLAINED TO HER? She says "anything else i can have from the childs menu. So I look, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, and grilled cheese. I explained to her that I can have bread so the grilled cheese is out of the question, I can't have anything that has been breaded so I cant have the chicken nuggets, and hamburger meat gets stuck and makes me hurt really really bad. Don't think she really cared one little bit. I ended up ordering the childs salad bar. I had not even half a bowl of cabbage Soup and very little salad. I ended up having to pay $5.99 for no more than 10 very small bites of food. By the time I left I was really upset. Why do these big resturants not offer a meal plan for people that have had this kind of procedure done. Instead of trying to make us pay after taxes and everything 7 dollars for just a few bites. My husband once owned his own resturant before we met. We are now thinking of taking out a small loan to open up a small family resturant and make sure that people like us (those who have had this surgery or the bypass or anything pertaining to weight loss surgery) have a section on the menu, just for us. Well, there you have it.

Do you weigh your food or just measure it?
I was told no more than 3 tablespoons. Also, you stomach isn't suppose to be able to hold more than what you can fit into the palm of your hand.

Frustrated in Tennessee
MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AHey slim, I see you are from chattanooga. I'm about 30 miles from Chattanooga. I live in Kimball (Jasper) area. Where are you having your band done? I had to go all the way to Knoxville to have mine done.
