clear liquid diet...help
MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AWell I thought that I saw in one of the papers I got from the class it said protein shakes were fine, it even gave a list of the ones to get. I guess I need to look and make sure that's not for the 2nd phase. How are you feeling from your surgery?

clear liquid diet...help
Hey guys and gals, it's Stacy again. Ok, incase you have forgotten, I am being banded this coming Monday in Knoxville. I need to know something. OK, after my surgery I know for like 2 weeks, I have to be on a clear liquid diet. My problem is, I was looking at some notes from my nutrition class and somewhere I saw something about milk. Can I have milk as a fluid? Also, I need some ideas of other things I can use to get my carbs and protein in. I know there are the protein shakes and sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles. But is there anything else I can (I guess drink). It just seems that its the same things and I am afraid I will end up getting tired of the same things every day. I'm so glad I have found this site. It's alot easier going on the internet and asking these questions than calling the doctors office and worring that they are going to get aggravated with all the questions I have.

Can you still have soda's after being banded?
I was asking the same question myself. I was told that anything with carbonation is a BIG NO NO. I even ask if I shook it up to make it go flat if I could drink it and still a big no no. Try the G2 from Gatorade. I tried it for the first time tonight (fruit punch flavored), I love it. Maybe you will too.

Pre-op
MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery StoryYou know, I keep reading about all these people being on a liquid diet before the surgery but my doctor didn't put me on why. Makes me wonder why he didn't. So, no, it isnt ketosis i think it is just my allergies.

Pre-op
Well, I had my Nutrition class yesterday (Aug 13th) and had all my pre-op done. Guess what, I started getting a bad headache and sore throat yesterday too. I wake up this morning and still have a sore throat but no headache. The N.P. at the surgeons office thinks that it is just my allergies and I sure hope she is right. If my throat isn't any better but this afternoon, I'm calling my family doctors office and making an appointment to make sure it is not anything other than my allergies.

Butterflies getting the best of me!
Hey everyone. This may be more of a blog thing instead of a thread but I am needing some serious help here. It is now 1 week and 1 day until my surgery date. It's 12:11 a.m. and I can't sleep. I am so nervous right now, that I am just about sick at my stomach. I want so bad to have this surgery. I look at the before and after pictures of the men and women on here and I can just picture myself thin again. I can see myself a happier person, a better wife, and a better mom. I don't want to be afraid to look in the mirror anymore because I know that when I do, I will feel nothing but disappointment in myself for letting my weight get so out of control. So what's with the butterflies you may be wondering? Well, basically, I am worried that I wont wake up from the sugery. I have said this before but the only thing worring me is blood clots. Here, I am. Other than my weight, I am healthy. My doctor and his nurse was surprised that I don't have high blood pressure or any other health condition caused by being overweight. I don't drink or do drugs but I do smoke (I know, I should quit and I want to but it is really hard). I was laying in bed with my husband before getting on the computer to write this and just about broke down crying cause I am so scared. He tells me that I shouldn't worry that everything will be fine. That in a few months I'll be down alot of weight looking for new cloths and running circles around him. But I can't seem to get this fear out of my head. Has anyone else gone through this? I mean it is so bad, I have had thoughts about canceling this surgery, yeah, it's that bad. Can someone please help me out here? Can someone please say something or do something to calm me down? Is there some kind of test that can be done to make sure I have no markings in my blood for blood clots or what? This is so frustrating, here I am 1 week away from doing something that will make me feel so much better about myself and I'm so nervous that I can't stand it. What's wrong with me?:crying:

what can I eat?
OK guys and gals. My surgery date is 1 week from this coming Monday. I am going 2morrow to buy grocries for the family and have decided to go ahead and by some stuff for myself. Only thing is, I'm not sure what to buy. I have heard that I will be on clear liquids and this is fine by me. Can someone help me out on what I can get. Can I get like jello and cream of chicken soup or what. Chicken Broth comes to mind, I can tollerate it, but I don't exactly love it. If anyone dont mind, can they give me a few ideas of what to pick up. Also, what can I drink, apple juice, is this ok or what? Help me out here please.

Need encouragement
I hate when I read about someone that is doing something to better their lives and the lives of those around them and they can't get any support from their family. I don't know what to say about your husband not being there for you, but maybe, just maybe, he has good reason not to want to be there. Maybe like the other lady said, her husband was scared to see her like that so maybe your husband is scared to see you that way also. You never know. If worst comes to worse, I know that we are not your family but you have not only mine but the support of everyone here on this site. If you ever feel the need to talk about what you are about to go through please feel free to email me, my email is sandmdeering@gmail.com. I too am having the band done on 8/18. So I guess we will be going through the same things at the same times. TTYL

looking for someone to guide me through this
OK, I'm suppose to say my name and age, gender and where I am from, my weight now and what I want my weight to be, and few other things. So I will, I just hope I don't bore anyone. My name is Stacy, I live in a small town in SouthEast, Tennessee and I just turned 30 last month. I have been married to a wonderful and supportive man by the name of Mark, for 4 months. We have 4 beautifull and wonderfull children. 2 are his from his previous marriage and 2 are mine from my previous marriage. I am a Certified Nursing Assistant that at the moment stay home with her disabled daughter to take care of her. I hope to soon be able to enter back into the workforce. I currently weigh 264lbs (SHHH) with a BMI of 46.8 By the time it's all said and done I hope to have lost down to atleast 145lbs. I am scheduled for my lapband on August 18, 2008 while I am so happy and excited to be having this finally done, I am very nervous over having it done. I'm sure everyone that has had this surgery has went through the nervous spell. I hope this is enough....

How Long?
OK everyone, today makes it exactly 2 weeks until I start my weight loss journey. That's right, I have 2 weeks until I am banded. I was just wondering, does anyone know how long it takes to have the surgery done? I watched it being done on youtube, (which was really cool) and it only took like an hour to watch. So, I'm thinking 45 minutes to an hour to perform it? Anyone wanna let me know how far off I am? Also, if you don't mind, can someone tell me what I need to take to the Hospital with me? I'm staying overnight so I'm thinking I'll need to bring something. Good luck to everyone out there that is joining the banding community this month, it's going to be a hot month!!!!!

My nightmare hospital experience this weekend
OMG!!!! I can't believe that a Doctor would treat his own patient that way. In a bad mood or not, he did your surgery and he should have took the time to make sure it was nothing to do with your band. I'd call his office and ask for his voicemail tell him who you are, remind him of what he did and how it made you feel, then ask him if he remembers the Doctors oath he took? I'm not one for doing something to hurt another person, but I'd make sure everyone within 100 miles of this doctor knows exactly what kind of a doctor he is. Now, I know of a Doctor in Alabama that was something like this doctor. He had no good bedside manners and was slapping his nurses on the face and even threw one across the room. I believe he was hitting some of his patients also. This Doctor is no longer practicing and had his lisciense taken away from him. You said something about no proof of malpractice, well in my opinion, if you are a doctor and you flat out refuse to listen to your patient and then not want to give them anything to help them with pain, (especially after surgery) that is malpractice, he didn't know what was wrong with you. It could have been anything, could have been something as severe gas pains to something fatal, and had it been fatal, he would have been at fault. You have the nurses that witnessed it, id have them to right a statement of what happened that night. Also about the techs just standing in your doorway laughing and you and the other people on the intercom laughing at you, they could and should lose their liscense. I don't care who you are, you could be a junkie, a drunk, or anything else, when you walk into a hospital, you are suppose to feel safe and secure with the doctor(s) and Nurse(s) that are suppose to care for your medical needs whether they think something is wrong with you or not!!! Please, don't stop looking for an attorney to help you, I'm sure somewhere out there you will be able to find one. You keep it up and you will walk out of a court room owning that hospital for the lack of care. I hope you are able to find a Doctor that you can and will feel safe and secure with soon. If you ever need to talk or vent about anything just give me a hollar.

UUUGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! Non supportive family
Sorry to hear that your family is supportive of your decision to have the lap band. I know that is it hard to make this decsison especially when you have people close to you that don't agree with it. I know this first hand because my dad isn't totally in agreement with me on my decision. Sometimes no matter how much it hurts knowing they are against you, you have to do what you think is best.

Disney World Pics
Ok, I HATE looking at pictures of myself much less letting others see pictures of me. But I am posting some before pictures of my first trip to Disney World in March of 08. I'll post some more recent pics about 2 days before my surgery.

to smoke or not to smoke
Ok, so with my first visit to my Doctor we discussed my smoking. Then, I was smoking a pack a day, now I am able to make a pack last a day and a half. Just wondering if anyone else out there smokes and if my smoking will complicate the surgery?
