Sugar Alcohols and Dumping Syndrome
One of the sugar alcohols gives me horrible diarrhea but I forget which one. The rest just give me gas which I can live with. I think everybody's different

Favorite Foods/Shakes/Recipes
I just discovered cake batter! Good stuff! Vanilla and caramel are my other favorite flavors. Scrambles eggs, cottage cheese and regular cheese were my friend in the initial weeks after surgery. Some people make ricotta bake, which you'll have to Google because I never made it.

Surgery Date 08/07/2023
Gas pain went away after a few days for me. Didn't need any pills after that. Incision pain was fine after a couple of days. Overall, not that bad! Surgeon or pre op program should have gone over potential complications like bleeding, etc.

4 months out, having a bad day. Ate an entire 10" pizza
Do you know what a 10" south shore bar pizza is? They are served bars south of Boston for the most part and are delicious. Today, the Cape Cod Cafe (not on Cape Cod and not a cafe either) serves $6 cheese pizzas. Absolutely delicious. I bought one figuring that I'd eat half for lunch. I had it in the car and couldn't wait to get home. Started eating , and kept eat slowly over the course of 45 min until it was all gone. Oh no! What have I done?! I'm scaring myself a bit because I'm only 4 months out and don't want a big stomach. How come some foods allow me to eat normal portions or even over-eat, and other foods, like eggs, keep me line?. In addition to pizza, I can eat a lot of salmon too (2 fillets). Anyway, looking for explanations, encouragement and support. Many thanks. I started at 386, and after about 4 months ( in a week) I'm down 72 lbs. That's the good news. But I'm not even half way to my goal, hence the worrying.

Help! 2 1/2 months Post Op and Not Eating
Did your team give you protein goals? I would start with shakes and try to hit those. I had surgery in Feb of this year and vomited 3 times. It's unpleasant, but it can be avoided and I wouldn't fear it!

Sweeteners after gastric sleeve
I didn't drink coffee for a month after surgery, but then I used artificial sweeteners.

Sweeteners after gastric sleeve
I prefer Stevia when I can, but Splenda (sucralose) when I can't get stevia Make sure you read ingredients at the grocery store. I'm using a liquid stevia at home right now. Just pure stevia

Surgery Monday and I’m GROSSED OUT by protein powders !
How many brands and flavors have you tried? Personally, Iike Pure Protein Strawberry and Quest Salted Caramel You can drink broth after surgery, but it only has a lot of protein if you buy the special kind of bariatricpal.com -J

Surgeon suggested bypass instead of sleeve.
I largely agree. I don't cook much, but wish I did. Focus on freezable meals since you will have leftovers for days! Keep your smaller clothes because as you go down through sizes it could get expensive, albeit fun to try new things. You'll be glad to have a smaller wardrobe to rely on. Of course, if you can afford to treat yourself then by all means, do it! The restaurant situation is challenging at times, but I've started to get used to it after 4 months. I went out to dinner the other day with a friend, and we split an app and an entree and there were still leftovers! She took them home!

Psychiatric medication efficacy
I take a psychiatric drug and I feel like it may not be working as well as it was pre- surgery. It's not extended release! The surgeon says that it shouldn't be a problem, but I wonder if this is in "theory".... anyone have a similar experience in reality?

What was your "Last Meal" before starting the pre-surgery diet???
I went to Burtons steak house and a 30 day aged rib eye. It was delish!

Constipation
When I was very cognizant of my protein intake on a daily basis I was constipated and had to take a laxative once in awhile to keep things moving. Lately I haven't been as good about hitting my protein goals so it hasn't been a problem.
