Malabsorption of Anti Depressants
Jonathan Carlson replied to Aloo77's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi, yes I take a prescription for mental health. The doctor said it shouldn't matter that I had a gastric bypass, but I noticed a change in my mood after the surgery. Thankfully I wasn't on the max dose so I talked to my psychiatric nurse and she upped the dosage and things got better. From what I've heard, the only medications that matter are extended release ones. Otherwise, it should be absorbed normally. But that wasn't the case for me. Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk -
Strongly struggling
Jonathan Carlson replied to Mrs. Ross's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just follow the recommended diet initially while your stomach heals. Time flies faster than you think. I would take your medications unless your doctor told you not to. Just remember to drink slowly! Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk -
Severe back pain 6-12 months out (60-100 lbs lost)
Jonathan Carlson posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the past 6 months I've been dealing with severe back pain. Both upper and lower back pain. It seems to shift around depending on the month. Tylenol barely helps. I took prednisone one time and that did help but I don't think that's a long-term solution. It's already wearing off. I've tried physical therapy twice in the past year. I've had x-rays and MRIs the doctors don't see anything. I did visit with a specialist at New England Baptist spine center i Boston and he said he's had several other cases of people who had the same surgery, had lost 60 lb, knew their protein intake and were having severe back pain. He didn't have an immediate answer, but did order another MRI. I'm curious if anyone else on this forum has dealt with this. It seems counterintuitive to lose 100 lb and have back pain get worse. I do have a history of back pain. I've been a physical therapy many times. But I never expected it to get worse as I lost weight. If you have this problem and had any success dealing with it (or not) please let me know. Thank you, Jonathan -

1 year post surgery and seem to have exceeded my expectations. However, hunger keeps coming even after staying hydrated. Is it normal?
Jonathan Carlson replied to Sam006's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I would agree that it's possible you just need to allow yourself more calories considering your rapid weight loss. Congratulations on your success! -
I platued after 6 months and started logging my calories in an app called MyFitnessPal. It can help to meet with your doctor or nutritionist to set goals for the day including macros and calories. It'll get you back on track along with any other guidelines they want to give you. Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk

Am I crazy for wanting to cancel my surgery next week and just try Wegovy?
Jonathan Carlson replied to BrooklynHearted's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wegovy can help, but a lot of people, like celebs are using it for 10-20 lbs. I had lot more than that to lose, so I dumped ozempix and got surgery. Big change, but happy with it. As far as your program, you could cancel and look for more support if you don't trust this Dr and his office. But there are good programs out there. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk -

I think you're supposed to only eat liquids at first because you need to let your stomach heal. I wouldn't push yourself with solid food. Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk -
Bowel Movements
Jonathan Carlson replied to JFreeman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have something similar but it only happens every other day which means that on the off days I'm not going much at all. It kind of explains things for me. I don't see how you can be having two to three movements a day everyday! Maybe ask the Doc Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk -
Can you? Yes, though my program advised against it. Should you? Keep it to a minimum if you can't avoid it. My two cents! Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk

100lbs !! Wow, good for you. I'm down 80 since 2/15/23 and I've experienced thinning as well. I can tell from the mirror and shower drain. I take my vitamins plus biotin, though I'm not sure the latter does anything. Everyone says it's normal and should come back, unless your surgery coincides with male pattern baldness, etc ! Specialist: 4-5months stall. Explanations please!!
Jonathan Carlson replied to Ginnnnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What does your nutritionist say about your caloric intake given your activity level? Also, how much muscle mass have you gained? I've gained 20 lbs since Feb according to my smart scale . That's part of it anyway. -
Constipation…HELP
Jonathan Carlson replied to tehigh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had stool softener from the Dr that worked ...then I switched to OTC medicine beyond that, maybe a large coffee and breakfast sandwich from Dunkin? 😂. Kidding, that was the old days. Constipation basically went away for me by month 6, but I'm still irregular . Hang in there. Natural remedies: reduce cheese and up prune juice.... -
Sometimes I can eat more than other days. Is that good?
Jonathan Carlson replied to CaliRexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me it depends on the type of food I've eaten, as well as the amount of liquid in my stomach. I don't think it's a huge deal. But my theory is: if I'm grazing too much, I'm probably making poor choices at meal time. (Eg not enough protein) Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk -
Protein bars that are low in sugar. Some are like candy bars so read the labels! I like Pure Protein bars that I get at Walmart. Amazon too. Great flavors. Only problem is long list of artificial ingredients. RX bars have more sugar, but better ingredients I also like certain low sugar yogurts such as Oikos Triple Zero, Ratio with 25 grams of protein and Skyyr Icelandic yogurt made by a couple different brands. Also, boiled eggs, cottage cheese and cheese sticks are good. Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk
