  1. Yes. According to Dr Google, lol. It can lead to esophageal cancer. I think most people have many symptoms though. I figured I will bring it up at my next follow up and see what they have to say. It makes sense what your dr said since you will be getting the scope anyways why not be sure. My dr didn’t require the scope or the silent reflux test.
  2. I think I may have just said this in another thread but not certain. Nausea is not at all uncommon but it’s not the norm either. I would definitely contact your team to get a nausea Med. They should be able to just call one in for you if you call them.
  3. That’s amazing!!!! And every pound you lose now will make it that much easier post surgery. I am just finding this post for some reason but have you considered counseling for your binge eating and emotional eating??. I have seen quite a few people swear that was a huge component of their success along with the surgery.
  4. Hummm. I do not but my best friend does. I have been saying we have to go there but warned her since I’ve never been it will be a half day ordeal of me shopping every aisle and reading labels. I don’t think it sounds very exciting to her cause she hasn’t brought it up. Lol. Maybe I just need to make the trip by myself one day.
  5. There are a couple things that some people miss when they begin tracking or measuring. Are you counting all the oils and marinades you are cooking with? Also are you actually measuring sauces and stuff?? Two tablespoons was alot less than i though. When I actually put it in a measuring cup I realized I had been using a lot of calories worth of dressings. Another thing I was underestimating was shredded cheese. I don’t mean to sound insulting if you are already measuring these things correctly that’s great but I know I wasn’t in the beginning. if you really are tracking everything correctly then it has to be stress. If I understood correctly your team did not actually give you a goal of weight to lose?? For the most part the medically managed diet is just an insurance hoop like others have said. A few people with higher BMI’s are given a specific Amount of weight that they must lose in order to make the procedure safe but for the most part it’s just the insurance game. if I were you I would contact your team and let them know you are struggling and ask if you were required to lose In order to be approved or not. Get rid of that thing that is most likely causing you stress which is causing your body to be in fight or flight mode making it harder to lose.
  6. I haven’t had to have that study but do have a question for you if you don’t mind. Did you have ALL the symptoms of silent reflux to warrant the study? I only have the occasional burning in the throat but nothing else. That in itself doesn’t bother me but the part about it possibly causing cancer and stuff scares me a bit. I didn’t realize there was an actual test for it. It sounds invasive though.
  7. Well at least you don’t have to start over. I’m guessing the dr will be sorta busy trying to handle the backlog of other patients who are also put on pause. If your flexible scheduling wise I would ask to be put on a cancellation list. Maybe that will get you in sooner.
  8. i am hoping for my target to start carrying the flavored one. So far they just have the plain. Our Sam’s club does have the everything bagel but I’m pretty sure I can’t eat anywhere close to 12 in a week. Plus I’m not really a huge fan of that seasoning (i can take it or leave it but it doesn’t add much flavor in my opinion). I am looking forward to the southwestern flavor becoming available though. That sounds good.
  9. Ask your dr for some nausea meds. That’s not the norm to feel nauseous all the time.
  10. Some people are put on PPI’s as a preventative for the acid. I was not one of them and didn’t have any issues but I see people talk about it on here all the time. I would definitely ask your team about it.
  11. Are you on a PPI? Some people have excess acid and it feels like hunger but a PPI is supposed to help.
  12. I actually didn’t lose a lot of hair but I do have longer hair and I have had periods where I have lost it in the past and I know that it can be a pain with clogging the drains and getting in the AC return etc. personally if I was shedding a lot I would get it cut just because it would be less hair everywhere.
  13. Congratulations. Their really should be a clever little term for getting into the two hundreds.
  14. What sorts of things do you have in them now? Does it have to be something that tastes okay with eggs??
  15. Has anyone tried these? They look promising calorie wise but I’m curious if they are any good and how long they keep since I have only found them in bulk size near me.
  16. As for their requesting additional nutritionist visits I would take that as a positive. My psyc evaluation didn’t even get into eating behaviors and my nutritionist visit just consisted of them going over the pre and post op diets so post surgery when I realized that I am a boredom and emotional eater I was on my own. I wish My team had caught and addressed these issues pre surgery.
  17. I’m not surprised that she focused on protein. That will be your main focus post surgery. Your fluids, protein and vitamins will be all you take in for a while and since you will be eating smaller amounts they will need to be the main focus thereafter in order to be able to meet your daily requirements.
  18. You can get broth based soups from your favorite brands or restaurants and strain them through a VERY fine strainer though. Grocery Stores now carry Panara Bread Soups in their deli section and they also have a Walmart brand that are pretty good too and cheaper. Just because you can’t have the chunks doesn’t mean you can’t have a more flavorful broth.
  19. If your talking about pre op I was allowed some food. Just lean meat and low carb veggies in small amounts so that was easier. Post op it really was just shakes or clear protein drinks, broth, sugar free popsicles and jello. Yes it got pretty darn boring but once you get to purées it’s a little better and soft food is even easier. Basically you just gotta think of your food as medicine for the next few weeks. It’s what your body needs right now and it’s not forever.
  20. Personally I wouldn’t want to go into surgery with my body already fighting anything. This is a pretty major surgery and I wouldn’t want my body to go through anything else at the same time. Plus I have heard they are really painful and you don’t want to be in additional pain with your surgery. I would definitely see someone and make sure you are treating the right thing. I would also consider telling the surgeon about it before you go because of the simple fact that you may get there and go through all the steps only for them to see them right before surgery and not do it.
  21. A fluctuation that small could be anything. It could be water, full bowels, it could just be that scales are not 100% accurate. I suggest that you weigh yourself less often if it’s going to get to you. I weighed myself daily but I only recorded it once a MONTH. That way I could see the downward trend for certain. That worked for me but it sounds like it’s upsetting you more than it got to me so maybe you should try once a week or so.
  22. Obviously not until you are approved for solid food but yes. Low calorie, high protein and very portable foods make some of the best choices for snacks and that certainly fits the bill. Just watch the sodium if that’s a concern for you.
  23. As arabesque suggested, the nausea meds your doctor will likely prescribe should help considerably in making eating feel less like torture. It is a bit of a chore for some early out because eating when you don’t feel hungry seems like a waste of time but just try to remind yourself you are eating to fuel and nourish your body. As others have suggested you may miss this period once it’s gone because it will never be this easy to choose the healthier option as it is when your body isn’t screaming out for food.
