  1. I agree with catwoman, my surgeon and his NP were the ones to order all my labs and tests. I bet they would be willing to do the orders if you explain the circumstances.
  2. I lost during the actual pre-op diet, but I gained during my last couple months of my medically managed diet. Part of it was food funerals.
  3. Glad to hear you are finally going to get a date. Good luck with your surgery.
  4. My Hubby decided on steak and lobster for the holiday with grilled onions and corn on the cob. I barely ate a quarter of that but I plan to go back to it at snack time and for lunch tomorrow.
  5. I live in south florida so I can imagine what your going through. Can you find ramen noodles or other soups and just strain them and use the broth? I was not given quantity limits on the liquid stage either.
  6. Your dietician or your clinic may have samples of the bariatric advantage. I think the sample was mixed berry and one other I can’t remember. I got them from my dietician.
  7. When I asked my NP about these she said she has asked several companies to send her the research with proof that they really do absorb through the skin and not one has yet to send it. So do your research. She said it mustn’t be simple that it absorbs through skin otherwise things like hand sanitizer and alcohol wipes we use on our hands (and she says she uses a ton of all day) would be absorbed into our bodies and that sorta made sense.
  8. I started taking mine during the pre op diet. I started with bariatric advantage chewable multivitamin but I just switched to bariatric pal with my NP’s go ahead. My clinic is super strict on vitamins and insists that I take bariatric formulations and strongly encouraged the bariatric advantage but I needed something cheaper so I did some research myself and found the bariatric pal. I am also taking a calcium citrate I found on Amazon by 21st Century Vitamins instead of the bariatric advantage chews but this is NOT with permission of my clinic. I just figured I am having labs again and would see what difference it made in three months time so I will see next month. In the beginning I took the bariatric advantage chews and they taste great and labs were perfect. They are just a bit pricey.
  9. I didn’t really have any post op issues. Woke up feeling like I did about 1000 crunches. They decreased my pain meds to just Tylenol in hospital and I went home the next day needing nothing. I did get a bit dehydrated though and went back to hospital as an outpatient to get fluids. It’s was not a big deal at all. They just sit you in a recliner and hook you up and give you a couple bags of fluid. I was already starting to be able to take in more fluids so I was good to go after that.
  10. I was a lower BMI to start. I am 5’8” and my pre op weight was 235, surgery weight 220 and current weight is 182. My surgery was March 9th so I have only lost 53 pounds in the same amount of time as you (38 post surgery) I think you are doing great.
  11. OMG, you poor thing, sounds like you dealt with it like a champ though.
  12. I’m almost six months out and I haven’t had any hair loss yet, but figure if I do the only person I really care about what he thinks is my husband and he is too busy checking out my new, thinner body to notice any hair loss…Just kidding…sorta. In the whole scheme of things a short period of hair thinning (which is what it is for most, it’s not like bald spots) it will still be well worth it. But you are not alone with the doubts. My fear was excess skin and I still am hoping I do not get any, but I am still 22 pounds from my goal and even if I stopped losing now and experienced some hair loss, I would consider this surgery a huge success and very well worth it. But I am still losing, very slowly. There are always clip in extensions if your hair thins too bad. I have thin hair anyways so I have tried them just for fun and my hair looked great with them.
  13. I am not diabetic but I have to take oxybutinin for excessive sweating which is actually an incontinence medication and decreased sweating is a side effect. Anyways, since I started it i noticed that I do not get up to go pee nearly as many times a night (or during the day for that matter). Maybe your doctor would consider you trying that if you need it to get better sleep. Not sure if it works for men too??
  14. When I told my dr that I thought I wanted bypass he asked me if I had gerd and if I was a big sugar eater. I guess either of those things would justify the higher risks (which are still VERY low). The answer to both of those questions is no. I decided because absorption issues were less with sleeve that I would have less issues to work through with my bipolar meds and probably need less extra vitamins in the long run plus it had the lower risk so I went with it.
  15. Yesterday I was hanging out talking to my husband in the front yard while he trimmed the palm trees and later he said to me that it’s funny that I am so oblivious to it but just about every guy that went by was checking me out. I said it’s probably the neighbors wanting to know if you traded me in for another woman since I lost so much so quickly and he said don’t sell yourself short, your hot. It’s also our 20th anniversary this week so thats nice to hear once in a while.
  16. So far I have only heard of one person who they couldn’t do the surgery because of the liver on here. I think they mostly can do it but they have to convert to an open procedure which is of course worse recovery and scars.
  17. They should accept the info from your gynocologist.
  18. Most people have to go through a psyc evaluation to determine if they are “fit” for surgery. If you do not have to you may consider seeing a therapist anyways and working on your depression first. This tool is like a one shot deal. You want to go in with your mind in the right place so you are the most successful. That’s not to say that if your depression is entirely because of your weight that you aren’t ready. A doctor will be able to help you determine that though.
  19. Collagen Peptides are supposed to be good for hair nails and skin. I took them mostly trying to help with skin elasticity but I did notice it helped my nails and I haven’t yet noticed any hair loss at almost six months out. I was recently told we do not absorb the protein as well as whey protein though so if want to count it towards that goal you should ask your team how much of it actually absorbs.
  20. Weight loss has slowed down to a crawl. I am 23 pounds from Goal still and beginning to worry I will never get there.
  21. Just try to hang in there. Each and every day it gets a little easier. Some of us have a slower recovery than others but you will get there. Just take lots of tiny- tiny sips.
  22. You may not feel restriction with the portions you are expected to be eating. For some reason I could eat more than expected at any given stage if I wanted. I did feel restriction just not as soon as expected. I am almost 6 months out now I COULD eat quite a bit more than I am supposed to. I think this is uncommon and the other responses are far more likely but even if it’s the case I just stick to measuring out what i should be eating and I am losing weight just the same.
  23. I am almost six months out and I can eat everything I did post surgery. I am still in the losing phase so I don’t make a habit of eating things like pizza and pasta but I have tried them once just to see if my stomach would tolerate them and it does just fine. I have heard people who develop food allergies or just discomfort post surgery though. But it seems like once it is something that is unpleasant to eat they no longer miss it. So I almost think this may be a good thing to help aid in making healthier choices??
