Do you know your bougie size?
- Had Emergency Surgery Just Now
Oh Fluffy so sorry to hear that. I know you're very strong woman so fluff your feathers, girl and recover fast. Praying for you!- Stretched Pouch?
YOU CANNOT STRETCH/DILATE out your sleeve to anything remotely close to its original size. From LapSF/Dr. Criangle: The removed section of the stomach is actually the portion that stretches the most. The long vertical tube shaped stomach that remains is the portion least likely to expand over time and it creates significant resistance to volumes of food. The fundus is ALL but removed with VSG. The fundus is the upper most part of the stomach's greater curvature. The fundus is: 1) the stomach's stretchy/expandable tissue, capable of expanding 2-3xs its resting 'unfilled' size 2) the pre-op 'mass quantities' of food, waiting to be digested, storage section 3) where 70% of the body's grehlin a "hunger hormone" is produced. Stretching, due to overeating is most common in RNY because more of the stretchy fundus part of the stomach is retained to make the 'pouch'.- Do you know your bougie size?
If a larger bougie size is used, the sleeve will be larger and the operation safer, but the concern is that it may not produce enough weight loss.- Do you know your bougie size?
Standard bougie sizes in the United States range from 32-50F. The bougie size is not the same as stomach size, although it does influence the size of the sleeve. Generally, the smaller the bougie, the smaller the new stomach size, but the same size bougie does not always create the same size stomach. The finished sleeve size is determined by how close the stapler gets to the guide and whether the surgeon oversews the staple line and if so, by how much. While the gastric sleeve is now widely accepted as a primary bariatric procedure, there is not yet unanimous agreement on an ideal bougie size. The decision is trying to find the size that will provide the safest results with the most amount of weight loss. With a smaller bougie size, the smaller the sleeve and greater the restriction, but greater the risk of leak and stricture rate.- Do you know your bougie size?
My bougie was 40F which is 1/2 inch.- Do you know your bougie size?

Way to go! Congrats!- Vision Changes?
It's called corneal abrasion. It's very common. During anesthesia our eyes don't shut closely and cornea is exposed and gets dry. Plus all the patches and meds to dry us up to prevent any vomiting during intubation. I got blurred vision too after my vsg. It lasted more than a week then disappeared.- Almost 5 yrs out
