Lillymunster reacted to TheNewGiGi in PERIOD OUT OF CONTROL
I’m 3wks post op from the bypass. Everything was going to great. No dumping. Just getting back in the swing of things...My period has been so far 13 days extremely heavy with clotting (sorry for the details). I’m feeling weak and always tired.
I’ve stopped taking the blood thinner as per my surgeon. I spoke to my OB. She says with rapid weight loss it can cause lengthy menses and my hormones are out of whack. She wants to do a PG test!!!! I’m for sure I wasn’t pregnant prior to surgery. That was checked a few times prior. She also would like to do an ultrasound and some other workup. Suggesting birth control! I’m not against it but it wasn’t something I wanted to then hv to get it removed and the process of trying to conceive after a yr post op
Please can anyone help with their experiences...

Lillymunster got a reaction from ninabrr in Surgeon didn't complete my Gastric Bypass surgery!
About 6 years ago a friend of mine had the open surgery in MA. He was in the hospital for 3 days and out of work for 3 weeks. He did have to sleep in a recliner for a week or so because going from laying down to getting up caused him a lot of pain along his incision. He didn't have any problems and did really well. He does have a crazy scar but he's ok with that. His surgeon recommended it, I never knew why.

Hello! I have a few questions about having a baby after the gastric sleeve. When I have my sleeve, I will be at about 225 pounds to start, with a goal weight of 150-160. If I hit that goal weight earlier than a year, say like 6 months for example, then would it be ok to start trying for a baby then? Everything I have read says that you should wait to hit your goal weight, so it wouldn’t necessarily take a year to two years for everyone?

Wow that's fast! Congrats! Just a couple days post-op here and I'm already sick of fluids! My lifting restriction is 20 pounds for 6 weeks. You're lucky! Glad to hear you're doing so well!

Almost everyone will feel nearly 100% within an hour of waking up....but there are a certain percent of folks who get really disoriented and foggy for a while. On the off chance that you're one of those people....an attendant is a really good idea.

I've run into similar problems. Just note that while you could drive yourself to the hospital, you won't/shouldn't drive home, so whoever you get should be able to drive you. And I very rarely had anyone stay with me after any of these procedures--once I was home, I was on my own. If you'd feel better having someone there, though, I think the above ideas about hiring a college or nursing student are very good.

I had my VSG on 12/29/17. Surgery went really well and recovery was a breeze for me. BUT, i am feeling really frustrated with how slowly my weight is coming off. I am down 31lbs since pre op, 23lbs since surgery, and I know that is a good amount of weight lost for the first month. I have a appt on 2/13 with my surgeon and he wanted me down to 205 at this appointment. Thats 19lbs that I have to lose in 2 weeks! I thought i would already be down 10 lbs these last 2 weeks, but i had a stall on week 3/4. I'm following my diet and working out at least 2 days a week. I work 2 full time jobs basically so getting to the gym is very hard. I guess i'm just needing some advice, words of encouragement or anything to makes me stop freaking out about this goal my surgeon is wanting me at.

I am 9 weeks post op. when I was on the liquids I was worried too cause I could drink 4 ounces and wait and drink 4 more ounces in an hour and i didnt feel full. but my doctor said not to worry and it will be different when you can eat more solid foods. He was right when I was allowed to eat scrambled eggs at 6 weeks I couldn't finish one egg. I would eat 1/2 of it and then eat the rest of it an hour or two later. now I can eat meat and veggies and its all I can do to get 4 ounces in. you will really see a difference when you start on solids. so much different than liquids. but I do agree that 20 ounces in 15 minutes is way too much. your doctor or nutritionist should have given you an outline of what and how much you should be drinking. good luck with your journey. I wish only the best for you.

I had my surgery 11/28/17 and lost 24 pounds the first month then stayed the same for 3 weeks. It did start moving again but only a pound every couple days. don't get discouraged. my doctor said once I can eat raw fruits and vegetables the weight will come off quicker. I was really discouraged because I held at 203 for 3 weeks and I was so looking forward to being under 200 pounds. I'm now at 198 and looking forward to losing much more. best of luck to you. it will start coming off again just be patient.

Lillymunster reacted to Magen6691 in Nicotine Blood and Urine Screening
Hi Everyone! I am very early on in the process and just attended my orientation this week. My surgeon stated that he will do nicotine blood and urine screenings prior to giving me the referral for nutrition and psychology which i understand. When i asked him how long i needed to be smoke free he said "Try three months and then come test." Heres where im having my dilemma, does anyone know if it really takes the entire three months to clear my system? Ive been a pack a day menthol smoker for years and stopped cold turkey two days ago.It might not seem like much but for me its a BIG victory. Ive been drinking TONS of Water. Do I wait the three months and delay my surgery and position on the wait list or should i go for labs sooner??

Lillymunster got a reaction from Creekimp13 in Smoking...struggling to quit for surgery
I'm with you. I have to be nicotine free for 3 months for my surgeon to do the surgery. My ins also requires I quit. Right now I'm on day 10 and I want to scream. I'm also trying not to eat in place of smoking because I've already started the supervised weight loss. It just plain sucks. I've tried Wellbutrin, Chantix, Patches, gum, etc. in the past. I'm going cold turkey this time.

When you can finally get pregnant after trying for 17 years and all it took was a major weight loss. My doc always said it was possible but it seems losing 20-30 lbs never did it but losing 100 lbs was the remedy!! Going on 11 weeks and super excited!!! What a great reason to gain weight...I just have to tell myself, I am not getting fat, I'm just pregnant!!
I did what it takes to get down 100 lbs and I wasn't even stopping so I know after the baby, Imma be on the road again....EASY as 123!!! GOOOOOOO VSG!!! LOL

when, without thinking about it, you casually throw a leg over into a crossed legs sitting position while watching tv... and after freaking out with delight about it, find its actually very comfortable and you stay that way for over two hours comfortably and with good blood supply.
