My endoscopy is scheduled for 2/9 and I plan on taking off that day.

I recently moved to a new state where I do not have family. My mom is flying out to take care of me after surgery. However, I don’t have anyone to escort me to the endoscopy. I was hoping that I could just Uber back and forth but the nurse that called with the preop instructions said someone has to stay with me.

Anyone else face this situation? I’m considering hiring a nanny lol

You will be fine, but you do need an attendent that day...just because you're having sedation for the procedure. Someone who can take you to the appointment, take you home and stay with you a couple of hours until you're sure you are yourself.

Would be an awesome job for a nursing student, even a CNA student would do. If there's a community college near you, a young 20's kid might be perfect? They get some babysitting money and a reference letter from you about their good work caring for you.

I've run into similar problems. Just note that while you could drive yourself to the hospital, you won't/shouldn't drive home, so whoever you get should be able to drive you. And I very rarely had anyone stay with me after any of these procedures--once I was home, I was on my own. If you'd feel better having someone there, though, I think the above ideas about hiring a college or nursing student are very good.

I agree. The hospital will not let me drive myself home. But they want someone to drive me, stay for the entire procedure, and then drive me home. It’s the middle part that is the obstacle. Like you, I’m not concerned about when I’m home. Bed, remote. I’m good to go. My procedure is at 7am. So I’ve got a nice long day off to recouperate.

I had a coworker drive me to and from my endoscopy appointment. We left from our office. I drove myself home from the office and had no issues but I was wide awake and felt really good. I just had to give them the phone number for my ride and they called when I was finished.

Almost everyone will feel nearly 100% within an hour of waking up....but there are a certain percent of folks who get really disoriented and foggy for a while. On the off chance that you're one of those people....an attendant is a really good idea.

Many of the patient care techs at hospitals are nursing students and would likely jump at the chance to do a simple job like this. We actually hired one to help out with kids after my surgery. The challenge is I'm not sure how you would meet one to ask if your not in the hospital...

Call the nearest nursing school and ask, When I was in LPN/LVN school I would have jumped at the chance, and like somebody else said write a nice note to their school telling how helpful they were and might even (if the experience was stellar) offer to give them a post graduate,letter of recommendation.
