  1. There's a guy in my support group who is a little over 8 years out, he had the sleeve. He said one night "Years after surgery we will eat foods we were told not to, but I don't do it every day. I have pizza once in a while. Now a eat once slice, before surgery I ate a large pie to myself. Now I order medium and it'll feed me a few days". It make sense and he's right there are days we will eat and it's okay. This guy is 8 years out and has had 20lbs max regain, currently 8lbs higher than his lowest weight. He says if the lbs start to creep up he goes back to the introducing hard foods stage and food logs again.
  2. I have Kaiser and am very happy with the Bariatric program. I know each regional Kaiser is a bit different. I did like and think that the Options program is great before the surgery. Even though it is a long process (rumor is they are shortening it), it is very helpful and prepares you for what is to come. The best part has been the after surgery support group which consists of weekly meetings with a behaviorist and dietitian alternating weeks. I go weekly as it has helped me after surgery and be successful but I do see people drop in and out as they please. A great change is they have now made it free. I like the groups because there are people in it that are almost 8 years out and attend regularly so they have great advice on life after surgery. I had surgery 11 months ago today, and am very happy with Kaiser and their program. Please feel free to ask questions or message me.

Changes start happening right away. Physical changes I really started to notice around 3 months. Everyone else saw them before i felt I did. Then again we are our own harshest judge.

You know how we all say I wish i was xx year old but with the knowledge I have now. Seriously its been that way for me. I fell like I'm 20 again. The wife definitely has noticed it.
  5. Frustr8 is right. I take photos weekly in just underwear. Front and side. You are early out by the 3rd month it’ll be a change but not drastic by month 4/5 you’ll definitely notice. Here Is me at surgery day then at 3,6 & 9 moths and the far right was a week ago.
  6. i use itrackbites. The only thing is they have recently gone the way of a subscription. Luckily I purchased my addons a while ago. But I love the app. https://itrackbites.com/
  7. looking good. What's funny is even people close to me telling me they don't remember me being "THAT" big.
  8. Here is the wiki on it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neomycin/polymyxin_B/bacitracin
  9. Congrats Matt Z. I'm looking forward to getting there as well
  10. Here is her instagram. Its not all Bariatric, but she does tell us to adapt per our requirements and portions https://www.instagram.com/nutritune/
  11. I feel you there. It took me a bit to get out of the habit of going into the Big & Tall section.
  12. I weigh daily. As stated above, it keeps me accountable. I only log Mondays though.
  13. I have Kaiser as well and have been very happy with the program. I am waiting for my one year visit in March. I do go to the weekly support meetings, which are great, and I also am the guest speaker for Options class for the past 2 months.
  14. I have taken pictures weekly since coming home from surgery. That is how i have been tracking. But it is true. We are hard on ourselves.
  15. My Nutritionist did a food demo this week and here they are. No after picture but I finished them both. For perspective the glass is a a shot glass and bowl is a small dessert bowl. She served less than an once of yogurt in each. They both were great and opposites on flavor. My wife hates food demos because I skip out in dinner.
  16. Matcha is a specially ground Japanese style green tea. If you remember watching Karate Kid II, its the tea used in the tea ceremony. It is said to be really beneficial to use. My previous PCP swore by it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matcha
  17. I feel the same. I am 10 months out and shoot for 11-1200 calories a day. At 8 weeks I was about 650-800 calories a day. I upped my intake at 6 months to the 11-1200 after being cleared to lift weights and start training for a 5K. I talked to my nutritionist who said to up my intake to make up for the amount being burned up while exercising. I exercise daily by walking/jogging for 35 minutes and I strength train every other day. Most days I burn up about 6-700 calories from exercise. I have had very few stalls and they last no more than a week.
  18. Be careful with gum. My team said its a no for life. Not only can it cause bloating because of swallowing air, but chewing is a trigger to the stomach to start producing acid. Also if it is accidentally ingested it could be an issue for your sleeve/pouch. I would check with your medical team with the gum chewing.
  19. I had 2 1/2 weeks. I wish i could have taken more but my work was piling up. Desk job as well. The biggest challenge will be your energy levels. Upon my return I was exhausted by the end of the day. I had just started pureed's and was getting about 400-600 calories a day. My suggestion, take as much time as you can.
  20. I was the same way. At first i would tell whoever asked. After a few interactions with normies (that's what we call non-surgery people in our support group) I now go by a person by person basis. In general I say "I worked with my doctor on meal and exercise program". That usually is enough for most.
  21. If you are exercising and lifting as you say, your calories are probably too low. My nutritionist had me up my calories from 900 to 1300. I usually hit it at +/- 100 calories of that daily. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week where I run and lift those days spending about 90 minutes there, on my non gym days I walk for 2-3 miles. The nutritionist told me I need the extra calories if working out, if not the body holds on to what it can for survival. You may want to speak to a nutritionist that works with bariatric patients.
  22. 09/14/17 333 pre-op program start 03/07/18 306 - surgery day 12/10/18 220 - this morning
  23. Give it some time. You are very early out. Best thing I have been working on is mindful eating. Here is a link with some tips, but there are many articles on this https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/10-tips-for-mindful-eating-just-in-time-for-the-holidays-201511248698. My pre surgery class did an exercise on this and it was quite the experience with a hershy's kiss.
  24. My program was: Day 1-3 Clear Liquid Day 4-14 Full liquid & Protein Weeks 3-4 Blended/Pureed Weeks 5-6 Soft Foods Weeks 7-12 Early transition to Solid foods Month 3-6 Later Transmission to Solid Foods Months 7+ Lifetime Healthy Meal plan
  25. I took 2 1/2 weeks off. Wish I would have taken a bit more. At that time i was dead tired by the end of the work day the first few weeks coming back. Remember at that time your calorie intake is so low at first and even sitting sitting thinking is burning up those calories. I was cleared to drive a few days after surgery, as soon as I was off the pain pills.
