Anyone wanna cheer me up?
I was revised from VSG to RNY over three years ago. I can say that my lifestyle and routine is about 95% the same as VSG (and about 75% the same as pre WLS.) I think I was back to what I considered normal in about 4 months after surgery. Your experience may vary of course. The 5% margin of difference between VSG and RNY was the immediate post op period where I had to adjust to new bathroom habits and figuring out exactly which food I no longer could tolerate. Now even the things I didn’t tolerate immediately I can have in some amount and some things I just don’t want at all (super sugary sweet stuff). I can’t speak to the weight loss aspect because I was at my goal and have pretty much stayed there, but the reflux/GERD is gone and has not returned, yet (although unlikely anything is possible). Good luck

Vegan bruschetta w/hummus and cucumber- Before and After. I made a much larger version for my mostly vegan child to show her it was a very quick meal (5 mins) because she only ever makes either a complicated breakfast or nothing at all (but either way she’s annoyed ?) BTW I’m eating off of a lid to tupperware because I’m in a stand-off with the child who is supposed to do dishes.

When to tell your new partner you had surgery and imposter syndrome?
First congratulations on life settling back to normal, getting to goal and meeting someone. I (personally) think it’s a little tricky to tell people about WLS but I don’t think you should feel like a liar or imposter. Your family maybe right about there being no moral or ethical obligation to tell (and only a slight medical obligation when the situation calls for it) but it still feels awkward because you’re hiding something that’s important to you. I personally think that you should tell him when you are truly comfortable or when it’s really relevant (whichever happens first). The perfect segue is if more medical conversations come up or if you need him to be your emergency contact/medical proxy. When I started dating after WLS I only mentioned it to potential partners that I believed were worth telling. I’ve been in a relationship with someone for 3+ years now and I believe I told him pretty early on because we spoke about a lot of different topics for extended periods of time and it felt “safe”. Good luck!

Food Before and After Photos
I’m absolutely exhausted with eating out, I don’t like most of the things I order so I’m eating the food I have at home: Lettuce/tomato, pepper couscous and buffalo wings (didn’t eat them) before vs after

Kids bday dinner at a vegetarian/vegan Thai restaurant. Vegan lettuce wraps with ginger sauce (2 meals worth) and it was surprisingly good.

how did surgery save you money?
I no long have to buy super expensive but flimsy bras! I was a 44H so if I wanted anything remotely appealing it was going to cost a lot and often the underwire would break too soon.

Tea recommendation
Joining this thread because I love tea. I grew up on Celestial Seasonings (Red Zinger is my all time favorite) but I highly recommend Harney and Sons teas also.

I am also not an offal eater ( had to Google it) but I love to see what people eat even if I don’t. BTW this is basically the same as entrails to me ?

Intermittent Fasting for Maintenance
I still do IF, occasionally. Most of the time it’s 14 or 16 hr fasts that sort of just happens if I’m busy and delay breakfast. But sometimes I do OMAD when I’m not hungry. But at 5yrs post op it’s definitely easier to eat enough vs too little so it maybe easier the further out you are.

The waffles are mostly neutral like any other bread. But the dish is a savory sweet combination when you add maple syrup. My non vegan daughter refused to try it with the syrup and vegan daughter refused the vegan version altogether so this might be a dish fading into obscurity ?. Chronic pain and transfer addiction
Also if you can and it’s not a financial burden, try physical therapy or a chiropractor. I was skeptical about them but they can help tremendously.
