Heart rate higher than pre op
Does anyone have experience with an increased heart rate post op? I'm almost 5 weeks and it's not unusual for my heart rate to jump up to 110 bpm, as measured by my BP machine or new fit bit. I normally don't notice it till it gets into the 105+ range, but overall it's been running in the upper 80s to 100s. Around 105 I feel it racing and start to feel weird, but it's not like I'm doing anything to cause it to increase. I don't recall this happening before surgery. I've Google and see that can happen after eating, or it could be related to BP. I don't think it's dehydration as I've been getting my fluids in since about week 1. At what point would you worry? On a side note, my BP monitor has shown the irregular heart beat indicator off and on since surgery. Seemed to not happen as much after 2nd week, but happened once last week. I am still on my BP meds, though I cut them in half. BP has been all over the place, ranging from 80/60 to 129/86 (yesterday) but generally in the 105/70 range. I started cholesterol meds back a few days ago and just switched from protonix to omeprazole. I will ask my Pcp at my follow up next week, but I wanted to ask about others experiences. Thanks! Beginning Pre-Op Process
I live close to Charleston. My bmi was right above 35, but I ended up doing cash pay in Florida 1 month ago because I couldn't meet my weight history requirement for insurance (I had 2014, 2015, 2017, but not 2016 above a bmi of 35). It was $18500 here, so I shopped around and ended up in Ft lauderdale. I'm down 15 lbs from surgery, and 30 overall! Good luck! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Cost of Psychiatric Evaluation ??
You should receive an email from them with your copay amount. It doesn't take them long to run your insurance. They say they're in network for most plans. I was freaking out because I hadn't received an invoice when my appointment was scheduled. But they had already told me my copay was $40. Just so happens I got the invoice while I was waiting for the phone to ring, I got the invoice and paid via PayPal. Worked out great!

So tired

Did anyone do anything crazy being wheeled into the OR?
Right before they wheeled me out of the preop room, I exclaimed "my coochie itches so bad!". The nurse whiles around and said "oops, I forgot to tell you that a side effect of the medicine is a itchy vagina. It relaxes everything.". Supposedly the entire preop area heard our conversation. Ok, how bad did this REALLY hurt??!
I woke up in recovery and asked what type of pain medicine I was on. The nurse said none, yet. I was shocked. During the initial pain assessment by the nurse, I put my pain level at a 2, and I'm not sure it was even that high. I had a pain pump, but didn't use it, except when they gave me meds in my IV. For me, that was the worst part. The IV pepcid and antibiotics burned and was awful. I was getting myself in and out of bed, taking my air things on and off by myself and walking. I walked over 100 laps, because that's what everyone said to do. They even let me walk myself out of the hospital. The worst pain was the gas. It hit me at about the 30 hour mark and I would rate it about a 9 on the pain scale. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Self Pay, Hernia, and Complication Questions!
My insurance would cover complications, doesn't matter where surgery was done, whether it was self pay, or they paid, etc. I had to ask, but they said it would be treated as any other claim. My Pcp was also on board, but she didn't need to know that it was self pay. She took care of all the pre op tests that the surgeon requested. The hernia is probably covered, but not all surgeons will bill it like that. Dr Kim in Dallas advertises a hernia discount, but when I asked several surgeons in town, they never heard of doing it that way. This seems to reduce most peoples cost for the sleeve to about $5k. I paid $8899 in coral springs, FL with Dr Amit Taggar. All inclusive, except pre op tests. I had a preop class, plenty of diet info, and follow ups via Skype for a year. (I'm 8 hours away). My consult to surgery was about a month. But I had been pondering and doing consults for over a month. Blossom Bariatrics in Vegas was high on my list. Center of excellence, great website, great videos to get a feel for them. Dr Borland in Louisiana also has a good self pay package. Bariatrix Florida is who I went with, because we could drive. Mexico, is also a great option, even with plane tickets, still less cost than the US. Don't discount it till you read the reviews. I would have gone, but decided on Florida instead. Dr illan or Dr Ariel Ortiz would have been my top choices. Good luck! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

After surgery pain
Are you sure it's not partly gas? The reason I ask is because the gas pain I had was by far the worst thing I ever experienced. I was writing in pain pretty much and could barely walk. Laying on my left side was life changing. I hope you feel better soon. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

How many premier protein shakes should I get
Be careful stocking up post op. I was lactose intolerant for a few weeks post op. I could tolerate them with Lactaid, but muscle milk was much better (lactose free). Instead of stocking up on one thing, stock up on a variety so you can keep trying if something doesn't sit right. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

I can't get my liquids in ??
Keep trying with the liquids. Different types, different temperatures, etc. You might find something that goes down easier. You must keep working at it so you don't have to go back for dehydration. And yes, on the gas x. If you can swallow it, it's fine. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

lingering cough
I too had a lingering cough from bronchitis for months. Eventually, We thought it was maybe reflux related, but turns out it was due to the blood pressure meds my Dr put me on. All of a sudden one day, I remembered her telling me that 10% of people develop a cough. Once I started another BP medication, the cough stopped. Are you on BP meds? Hello
My hernia wasn't as bad as yours, I only had a portion of my stomach protruding upward. But, I felt awful, the pressure, getting full quick and just misery, and reflux. I have felt so good since the surgery! I'm 3 weeks out and have never felt deprived, or that I wasn't getting enough to eat. I've been blessed with no hunger, no nausea and the lack of heartburn is awesome. My plan had me on purees since day 4, so it didn't seem as bad as some folks who have extended liquid diets. If the syrup, is sugar free, I think you're fine. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Incision not fully closed
My hole really hasn't changed much. I had one that looked like yours. It was a scab, and when it came off, it was a perfect little healed incision. It looked much worse with the glue and scab!

Thank you for allowing me to join - Really needs some feedback from others ASAP
Does she have a counselor or pastor to start with? It sounds like she needs more help than you on her husband can provide, and she needs it asap. Does she have good insurance that might cover a short inpatient evaluation? I don't say that easily and I can't imagine how hard it has to be for you guys. But, she is worth it, her marriage is worth it and your sister relationship is worth it. I don't have much personal experience here, but it definitely sounds like something that requires outside assistance. God bless you guys! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Pureed or blenderized food ideas
How about pimento cheese? It's been a staple for me. I never actually pureed anything. I just had softish food like yogurt, canned chicken, pimento and ricotta cheese and chewed thoroughly. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

back at work and having a hard time
There are a lot of 'smart water bottles' and apps that remind you to drink. One bottle might vibrate, light up, etc to get your attention. Or download an app that vibrates your phone, etc. I was horrible with these type of things pre op, but I decides it was critical, so I developed a habit of every time I went to the ladies room, I'd grab my water bottle and walk around the building. It's my new habit, and helped with my water and exercise. Can you do something like this? You're worth it! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

How do I get enough protein
Our pan calls for 3 meals, and 40oz of shakes. I eat yogurt, cheese, and put protein powder in my coffee. I also eat a lot of canned chicken. Buffalo chicken dip, or add canned chicken to my soup. Plus, protein water is useful. If I have a good day, I will have 1 premier protein, but in the beginning, I had to have 2. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
