Pain
Another term for dumping is rapid gastric emptying. Usually sugar and/or fat related and occurs when food moves into your intestines too fast. Not everyone has all the symptoms, such as rapid heart beat , feeling awful and diarrhea. Can happen with the bypass and sleeve. Not fun! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Help I can’t meet liquids
Yes. Your body needs liquid and protein to heal. You need to find something that works. Bone broth, protein soup, protein water, or put unflavored powder into drinks. What's keeping you from getting more? Lack of interest? Pain, nausea, etc? Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Sorbitol
Any artificial sweetener ending in - itol can do the same thing. I can only think of malitol, but I pretty much stay away from anything -itol. Speaking from experience! Lol. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Low BMI
My bmi was 32 at surgery, 35 when I started the process. I've never heard of any insurance covering it with such a low bmi, unless you had a rare life threatening health problem. The good news is, self pay has a lot less hoops to jump through! Shop around! Locally, it costs $18,000, so costed with 5 surgeons all over. Ultimately went to Florida where it was $8999. I used my short term disability to take 4 weeks off to recover. Mexico is a great option if you get your Pcp on board for follow up. Lots of great info here! Best of luck! You’ve GOT to be kidding me?? Weight GAIN?
It happens and is part of the process. I can weigh myself, go to the bathroom and be up half a pound. Don't worry about it, unless it's a trend. You can't lose every week. As much as we want to! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

200 Pounds & Under Slevers out There
My high weight was 195, and on the day of surgery I was 180 and 5'2". I had high BP, cholesterol, and pre diabetes. Now, almost 3 months later, I'm at 151, and my goal is around 130. It's definitely been a slow process, but worth it. I was able to stop BP meds and cholesterol by my 6 week follow up. Recovery was easier than expected and I have gone from wearing xl shirts to medium. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Did your hiatal hernia repair make your GERD symptoms go away?
I felt great! No issues. A little tired around week 3 (I took 2 naps in a week), but the nurse said my body was figuring out where to look for fuel. I was cutting grass, doing yard work, cleaning like normal. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Just for fun...what was/will be your "last" meal?
I had a piece of grilled chicken and small soft serve ice cream cone from DQ about 48 hours before surgery. (we were traveling). Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Need Help. Where to find a support group?
I can't help with the support group, other than googling local surgeons and calling their office. But can you share the online dietician's info? Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Did your hiatal hernia repair make your GERD symptoms go away?
I had a pretty bad hernia and was miserable (massive chest pressure) preop. I've felt great post op. I took a ppi for 6 weeks, then switched to a h2 blocker. Every now and then I get heartburn after eating, but Tums takes care of it. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone else only had to do a ONE WEEK pre-op diet?
My dr bases his instructions on bmi. Since mine was below 37, I had no preop diet. But I sort of followed as if I was over 37. 3 shakes and a lean green meal for dinner. No bowel prep either. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Am I wasting my time
The government offers many types of insurance. Do you have a card? There are folks on here who have federal insurance, but each company is different. Fepblue bcbs has different requirements than anthem, etc. If you know the company name, you can search here, but your best bet is to call them directly and inquire about Bariatric coverage, and/or let your surgeon find out for you. what does a gallbladder attack feel like?
I used to have gallbladder pain years ago, and was told it was sludge. So I'm familiar with how can feels. Before surgery and Now that I'm 42 lbs down, I've had similar pain, but ultra sound revealed no problems. I was puzzled, and still in pain. Mentioned it to my massage therapist and she massaged my rib muscles (intercostal?). The next day it felt like I'd been hit by a truck, but day 3 it was much better. So, I'm not saying don't see your doctor, but if you check out OK, yet still have pain not related to eating, maybe it's muscle related. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hiatus Hernia Diagnosed 20 Months After Gastric Sleeve Op

Rash!!!
I had a rash from the betadine, or whatever they used to clean me preop. My nurse advised to use hydrocortisone and it cleared up in a few days. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

PCP discouragement
I shopped around as a cash pay patient. Most surgeons in the US required medical clearance from my Pcp. Some wanted medical histories, some just a clearance. Luckily mine was awesome about it and ordered all my preop testing and post op blood work. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Straight to solid food?!
I started the mushy stage on day 3, and it included ground meat. We could have yogurt, cottage cheese, ground turkey and chicken, canned meats, pimento cheese, eggs, ricotta cheese, etc. I ate a lot of yogurt, canned chicken and ricotta. Starting day 15, we could have regular texture meats, but no red meat or veggies till after 1 month. I had no issues. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hungry but cant eat much
I second the ppi suggestion. But, research, research, research. My Dr recommends the ppi for only 30 days post op. Long term use isn't always recommended, but under a Dr's care, many take them long term if necessary. I switched to pepcid and have been OK. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Might back out...
I too only had surgery in August. I have had a boring recovery. Woke up feeling no pain from surgery. I was pretty much back to normal on day 7. Had gas pains on days 2 - 5. After a month, I was off all meds. I've lost 41 lbs and have gone from a xl shirt to a medium. I haven't had any nausea, very mild heartburn, controlled by pepcid and Tums. I take my vitamins and have no reason to think I will suffer a lifetime of deficiencies. And I eat what my family eats, for the most part. I eat the protein, leave the carbs. And I have half a glass of wine on occasion. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. In fact, I feel in control, while everyone else is gorging on their full plates of food. Of course there are risks with surgery, but there are also risks of staying overweight. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

How long did you wait for a date?
I was self pay and had my date before preop testing, in fact I had a date before I put my deposit down. The hospital required all blood work to be less than 30 days old. I hope you have a date soon! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Can I get by without blending foods ?
We were allowed ground turkey and chicken too, but I couldn't tolerate it before surgery, nor after surgery. The ground chicken was OK, but the turkey was definitely off limits. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
