My favorite invention is the fabric tape that you Iron on. I order it from Amazon by the bucketful. I use it to hem pants (I cut off the extra foot then fold and iron the hem and done)! I also use it with button down shirts so I don't get the boob gap. Love that stuff!

I have the same issue and the same fears. I want to change my life but sometimes the compulsion is so strong it's hard to trust myself.

So as some of you know I started at 540 pounds October of 2015. I had surgery May 29, 2016 at 480 pounds and today (March 23, 2017) I am 303.6 pounds. I am mostly happy with my progress but am plagued with lots of extra skin. Even though I am not a year out from my surgery I met with a plastic surgeon for my stomach hang. It bothers me a lot and is pretty painful.

The surgeon gave me 2 options. 1. I could wait until goal or 2. I could get have surgery to remove the hang now and have a revision later. I chose to try and have insurance cover it now and get a revision later because it bothers me so much.

They submitted it to insurance and I got the call that they approved it!! My surgery date is June 5th! I'm very excited but also a bit nervous. The surgeon said mine would be the largest he has ever done and I would need at least 4 drains in for about 4 weeks.

I'm also nervous that by June I might be closer to goal and it might be silly to get it now when I would have to get it again so soon. It's really hard to tell my rate of weight loss though once I get closer to goal.

Overall I am excited and just wanted to share my good news with everyone!

Isn't it interesting with our relationship between our own bodies and our spirits. Sometimes, people and ourselves only see a body, (beautiful or ugly, fat or fit). While other times, regardless of our body's current condition, our spirit shines through regardless. I love the fact your spirit has remained in control. (As I believe our spirits are eternal, our bodies are temporary.)
While my wife is beautiful, I am in more love with her spirit, than her flesh. Her body is just the package she is wrapped in.
I hope as I have focused so much effort restoring my body to a state of healthiness, I continue to develop into the person where my spirit dominates the relationship within myself, and my body doesn't impede my greater development of self. I too want to be physically attractive, but I value more the attraction to the soul as that improves with age instead of deteriorates.

Thank you for sharing your strong spirit and reminding me of my own values.

I lost 50 pounds and one of my co workers said you looking good with your weight loss! Another CO workers said I don't see a difference.... I said to the one that complimented me thanks for the compliment to the other one I said maybe you'll notice when I lose 50 more cause everyone see differently as I was smiling at her....she looked puzzled uuum I don't get mad about shit like that I hope she was trying to steal my joy cause she didn't. What she didn't know is before weight loss I always had high self esteem when I entered a room I always felt like I was one of the prettiest women in the room.....Always hair looking good, smelling good, nice outfit and my smile get them everytime...

My surgeon, Dr. Oliver Whipple was awesome from the day I met him. I don't have enough words to explain how nice this man was and how comfortable he made me the entire time of this journey.... He met with me a few days before surgery, after surgery he spoke directly to my family, after surgery he came to my hospital room each day, my check ups afterwards he was just as awesome... My entire experience was great.

I like the see thru 16 oz and 24 oz containers you get with takeout Soups from Thai and Vietnamese restaurants. You can buy them online from cooking supply folks, minimum 15? They stack well when full and empty, are dishwasher & microwave safe, and the lids are inter-changeable. The lids stack best in a corner.

Agreed! I'm only 3 weeks out but definitely noticing alot of changes. So far the only questions I've been asked are multiple friends wondering what I did to change up my makeup and hair. Uhm, nothing, that's just my cheek bones rid of some fat. I'm ready and willing to give modern medicine and 10 months of prep work the credit when I'm asked!

It's nothing to be ashamed of. I tell anyone who seems to have any questions. I'd rather be a shining star than hide under a lie.

I've really only had one person that reacted quasi-negatively ("If that's what you want, I guess it's ok." and, "I couldn't do that, I want to lose the weight on my own.").
I think WLS is definitely becoming less stigmatized, especially here in the Midwest, where all the fat people live.

I've been this way post-op. If somebody comments on my weight loss I sometimes mention it. Just depends on the person. I had a Facebook friend ask me the other day what did I do to lose so much weight and told them "I had 90% of my stomach removed"...lol. And then they came back with saying they've been looking into WLS themselves!

I know that I'll eventually find some stick in the mud, but like you said it's been supportive up to this point and nearly everyone has said they know another person that's had it and how well it worked for them.

I had started a similar thread last month when I was a few weeks out from my VSG. I had already told my family, 3 best friends and key co-worker. I spent a great deal of mental energy on wondering what I'd say when people inquired after my surgery. This is totally out of character for me. Well, I'm 16 days out and even though I thought I'd be wearing a "Scarlet VSG" on my chest, only one person has even noticed any changes.I did lose 20# in two weeks. This gal said, "What's different about you, you look well rested [emoji23]". I agreed but didn't tell her that I am well rested because all the months of prep and anticipation are behind me! I've decided if someone asks I'll just tell them and move on.

I've told some of my family (mom, dad, brother, cousin), but don't plan on telling anyone else. At work I'll just say I'm having a laparoscopic procedure and that I can't eat certain things afterwards. If people ask about the weight loss I'll just say it's from the surgery food restrictions.

"I can't worry about what people think." - arringtonc49 got that exactly right.
I'm an open book. I'll tell anybody. I have a very supporting wife and family and have only ever gotten one negative reaction.
IMO, agonizing whether to tell someone is usually much worse than actually just telling someone.
