Hostile Work Environment Or Just Another Excuse
I didn't work for the gov't but I did work for an ass much like the one you are describing. I'm glad you're getting yourself AWAY from that situation. I stuck mine out for 3yrs, until finally it was taking such a toll on my health I had to leave. I'm sending good thoughts your way!!! ((HUGS))

Why is my journey SO long?
Mazie, you are such an inspiration!! I know how you feel Flip, I haven't even been banded yet, (finishing up my 90day supervised diet). It sure feels like a LONG road ahead.

Not quite fat enough
The comment I see most on these boards is: "I wish I would've done this sooner". If you have the means to pay for the Lapband procedure yourself, go for it!

Hello everyone!!
Welcome and grats on your surgery date!
-
just starting the process
I'm almost 30 days into my 90 day insurance required dietician supervised weightloss program. I've done OKAY, nothing great tho, lost 10lbs and that's pretty much it so far. Like you, I'm ready to get the ball rolling and move forward with my new life. Best of luck

Really dumb question, but I was overthinking.......
Personally, I'd like to think when my fat is gone it moves to someone I don't like....like Paris Hilton.

OMG how did you all decide
I've known 6 people that have had RNY. Four have gained back over half their weight. One is a new RNY patient (under a year out) and is doing very good. The sixth is a girl I worked with that threw up so much from overeating after her RNY that she has torn her esophogas to shreds. It was a no-brainer for me, less downtime and less complications from surgery. However, WLS is a very personal choice and while I can only go from personal exp, I know there have been MANY success stories from other surgeries. Whatever you decide I wish you the best of luck. :purplebananna:

Questions about Smoking
Thank you for the comments/support!! I've been toying with the idea of quitting for ages, and I guess this is a good excuse to do so. I have a perscription for Chantrix, I've taken it before but it gave me horrid nightmares...BUT it did curb my cravings. Maybe it's time to give it another go.

Questions about Smoking
Not sure if this has been asked before, I did a quick search and didn't find much info. I'm a smoker and have been been for all of my adult life (ugh!). I've asked my surgeon of choice about his policy regarding smoking and he requires we quit 2 days before surgery and not smoke 2 days after surgery. This seems fairly liberal as the original doctor I was going to use required that smokers quit for 3 months prior to surgery. He even did blood tests to verify! So my question is, what did your doc require? I'm assuming the reason for this is to help the healing process?? Why the diff between the two doctor's requirements? Any advice/comments are welcome.

Insurance approved me for surgery!!!
Grats on your surgery dates!!! I can't wait for this 3 month diet crap to be over so I can submit my paperwork!

Alcohol?
I have a friend that's been banded for 4 years and still can't drink a margarita because of the acid from the lime juice. She DOES drink plenty of white russians! (she says the cream helps it go down easier w/o heartburn) lol I'm not much of a drinker in recent years, but I do like the occasional glass of wine. I plan to continue enjoying it in moderation once my doc says it's okay.

I Can Make U Thin?
I did like the show where he had the overweight guy imagine his favorite food covered with his least favorite food plus hair and toilet scum. I thought the guy was gonna hurl when he said "OK, take one more bite" (mentally of course).

How does your metabolism not nose dive?
YMMV Seriously. In 2004 I lost over 100lbs on a 700-800 calorie a day diet. My exercise was power-walking 1 mile daily. I averaged 1lb loss per day. I started in Jan 1,04 and had lost 104lbs as of May 10,04. I think everyone's body is different. My problem was I couldn't LIVE with calories that low, and once I started eating "normally" the weight came back (+ more).

LapBand found my cancer
That story was so touching and inspirational. Thank you for having the courage to share it with all of us.

Had my surgery cancelled!!!
That totally sucks. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I keep thinking about how freakin MAD I'd be! Ugh! ((HUGS))

All you people do is complain...
Maybe you need to jump back over the fence, meds ain't til 5pm.

Common sense anyone?
It disturbs me that someone would have their body CUT open, and a foreign object placed around their stomach...and not do any research on it's effects/requirements/expectations. I'm several months from being banded and since I've made my decision I've done nothing but read about the Lapband system. I'm certainly far from being an expert, but I at least know the BASICS of the surgery and how the tool is supposed to work, what the side effects may/may not be, etc. Some of the questions asked by folks that are already banded scare the hell out of me.

Your Ah-ha Moment?
My moment was in Wal-Mart. I was shopping for groceries by myself...trying to buy healthy food and planning my next "diet". I saw my ex-husband in one of the isles. I was so ashamed of how big I am I ran out of the store before he could see me. When you're that ashamed of yourself it's time to change.

Hey guys! I HAD MY SURGERY!!
Grats!!! I'm glad everything worked out for you so you could have your surgery! You're on your way!
